About Edie Raether

I am not in the real estate business but rather a motivational speaker, corporate trainer, hypnotherapist and bestselling author who rents out the upper and lower apartments in a new home. all private entrances and no shared walls! Woods on one side and a cottage rarely used on the other side so it is extremely quiet and private.

This three- mile quiet island is Nirvana and nature at its best!

Edie Raether purchased this house in 2014

Why Edie Raether chose Lake Norman of Catawba

Because it is the most peaceful, serene place on the earth!!! It is a two mile wooded island. Feels like miles away and yet in just minutes you are near historic downtown Mooresville, and in another few minutes the lovely, charming town of Davidson, a college town.

The dock is just 30 feet from the house and swimming is great as is all water activities or just sipping on a glass of merlot or a morning coffee. Just another 15 miles and you can experience the pleasant and vibrant city of Charlotte. This location offers the BEST OF ALL WORLDS!!.

What makes this house unique

Inspiration! Nature at its best! If you want a ZOO, this is not it! If you want peace and will love it!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I recently took my mother out of town for a few days for her birthday to Lake Norman, NC. I can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay while at Edie’s home. We had a beautiful view of Lake Norman, from our room and the pier. The room was clean and perfectly fit our needs . I have to say, one of the best things about this rental was the feeling of safety that we had on our trip. My 76 y/o mother and I walked down the road almost a mile (to view some fabulous sunsets), and we both commented about what a nice area this was. We wanted for nothing the entire weekend. Edie was a most gracious host, and she offered a lot of helpful advice….from shopping to dining to sightseeing. I was so pleased with my decision to rent from Edie, and would highly recommend this to my friends and family members visiting this area in the future.

Eclectic Comfort

  • 5 of 5

The studio we stayed in was so cute. The owner goes out of her way with little touches. Everything was in good working order. She was helpful with any of our needs. Beautiful property. And she is right. It's quiet and intimate, not a jostling party place. The three units on the property were all booked on the weekends. But we didn't hear anyone.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to share your very relaxing experience here on Kiser Island. I do try hard to please all the differing and sometimes demanding personalities and the joy and rewards of sharing this peaceful place with others is meeting people like you. I particularly appreciate your comments on the peace and quiet which is so true, but people seem to think that if there is another unit on the premise it won't offer the privacy and serenity that it truly does, especially with a woods on one side, a cottage rarely occupied on the other side and water on the front and back. I call it Nirvana and love sharing it with those who also love rejuvenation that nature and the lake can bring to one's well being.

Apartment is tiny!

  • 3 of 5

Was a bit dispointed with the accommodations. There were no paper products or trash bags. It was extremely hot when we first arrived and took at least 24 hrs for it to cool down to at least tolerable. WiFi wasn’t even hooked up. And television was sketchy at best. We appreciate the fact the small unit was pet friendly but were disappointed with the overall experience. Especially the towels that were left for us were NOT laundered. We had to go purchase our own. Oh and the smoke detector was missing. Edie you seem like a very nice lady but please take care of your accommodations.

Owner's Response: Dear Chandra, I am a bit disappointed that you did not speak up at the time so I could help with all your needs. There are two other units and they had no problems with WIFI. It is hooked up at all times and am guessing you may have not entered the PW correctly as there has never been an issue with WIFI. I asked several times, is everything OK, and you always said "Yes." Not sure about the TV but I have switched to more longer term renters to make my life easier and never had a problem with the TV either. Again, I wish you had said something. They are small apartments, and there is a two bedroom one, but you requested the one bedroom unit that walks out onto the dock. When you entered the unit, I remember you saying, "This is Really Nice." I ask guests to bring their own paper products and toiletries. That was posted on the website. I personally launder all towels and even add ammonia to disinfect all sheets and towels. I provided several so please forgive me if I accidentally left one behind when I picked up sheets and towels. Again, I asked several different times if there was anything I could do and you always said everything was fine. I simply ask people to be honest with me so I can provide the best experience possible. Regarding the weather. Yes, it was hot and cannot control the weather. I know the last guest had it down to 62 degrees, very cold, by my preference, so I know there is no problem with the Mini Split which was just cleaned and tuned up a month ago. I can only guess that you were not properly using the remote and wish you had asked as it generally heats up and cools down in minutes. They are efficient. The house is only a couple of years old so everything is quite new. Someone took the smoke alarm off the ceiling one, but I did have another portable one sitting on the armoire in the bedroom that may have been hard to see. Again, I wish you had been honest with me when I repeatedly asked if there was anything you needed as most of what you stated sounds like things I could have made right like showing you how to use the remote or making sure you were entering the password correctly. I rarely leave the premise when I have short term guests so I can and make sure all is well. It is hard to help when people stay all is well when they in fact need help. Remember. For the price of a mediocre hotel room, you are getting a small but complete apt. on one of the very best spots on the lake per every realtor on Lake Norman.

Not what we expected

  • 1 of 5

Listing doesn't really explain that you'll be sharing the house and resources with several other couples. "Suites" are in the basement. They are nice enough, but the outside was in shambles. Some of the disarray could be blamed on the weather, but overall the backyard and landscaping were in disrepair. We booked three nights over Labor Day weekend, we stayed one. Didn't ask for a refund, wasn't really expecting one, but it would've been nice. Edie texted and said she wanted to discuss, but never did. You live, you learn

Owner's Response: Hi Bob, It is always disheartening to have even one person not satisfied as I work relentlessly to exceed expectations and do 97% of the time. It's confusing when Tim and Amanda stayed the exact same weekend and said it was a "great experience, awesome view" etc. Having given much thought to why a rare few see it so differently than the hundreds of people who loved it here and return every year, these are my conclusions. If you love nature in a more country, natural setting with woods and water surrounding the property, you will love it as it is peace, quiet and serenity at its best. If you are seeking a five-start resort atmosphere, we need to talk. . Regarding shared resources, there is a private deck off the upper uni,t which was offered, but you chose the unit on the ground level with the dock just 30 feet to the water and dock and the patio with grill is right there. Your unit was completed 5 months ago so all is quite new. The house is less than 3 years old. In total, there are five separate and private decks or patios. I would like to stick to facts. There are NOT several units, but three on different levels with NO shared walls and all have a private entrance. The dwelling is 5,000 square feet and the property is appraised at a million. Not sure what resources are shared? They are not. Each unit has a complete kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living area. The dock is shared but never have two couples ever been on it at the same time. Some people boat all day, others are touring houses, and some are at work. Although you admitted the unit was nice, the unit you selected was on GROUND level, just a few feet to the water. That lower level has FIVE sliding glass doors and two five-foot windows and is 50 feet of glass offering guests spectacular views of one of the most peaceful places on Lake Norman - Kiser Island. Yes, it was pouring rain the night you arrived, but I can't take responsibility for the weather. I am sorry you did like the landscaping, but hopefully people don't come for the type of scrubs. etc. While I don't have a daily gardener, at least once a week the grass is mowed, the weed eater gets a work out, and the flowers are watered etc.. In Tim's review (staying the same weekend), he specifically states "GREAT EXPERIENCE.BEAUTIFULLY MAINTAINED PROPERTY WITH AN AWESOME VIEW!! I will now request conversations with all so everyone is a perfect fit as are the 97% of guests. I am very committed to exceeding your expectations. Thanks!

Not impressed

Cluttered, smelled like cats

Dock was not sufficient for docking boat. I left without staying.

Owner's Response: Richard, The person that stayed here the week after you had this to say and copied Amanda and Tim below as I think their comments sums it up so well. Here we go!! Great experience. Beautifully maintained property with an awesome view!! From the minute we pulled into the driveway, the owner of the property greeted and welcomed us - which personally made it feel more like a homey experience. Edie was extremely helpful - anything from local attractions , restaurant recommendations, jet/ski boat rental suggestions, she was always responsive and prompt to reply. Edie showed us around the property and explained thoroughly what each apartment had to offer. We stayed at the property for three nights - lower level apartment with walk-out access to the dock! Although the owner lives on the property, do NOT let that steer you away from this experience. You have complete privacy. with a private entrance to your unit. If you are not the type of person who enjoys interaction, you do not have to interact with the owner. Personally, we found it to be extremely helpful; otherwise, we would have wasted extra time researching nearby shops, restaurants, etc. and we would not have been enjoying every minute of this great hidden escape. If you are looking for a place to unwind, great choice. If you do not enjoy nature, water, and outdoor life, not the place for you. If you arrive on a gloomy day (which we did - it rained 2 of the 3 days), make the best of it. The owner cannot control mother nature. So relaxing and peaceful -highly recommend!! I wish your experience had been as most of the people who vacation here experience, as it truly is nature at its best. You said you did not like Lake Norman because the waters were too rough that day. I wish you had been honest with me but the pictures of the upstairs unit are the same as it is and ??? The cats are not allowed inside and are known to be very clean, but understand if we don't like something, our imagination can make up stories and fill in the blanks to support our beliefs. Again, 90 percent of the people not only enjoy, but find the views spectacular and return annually because it not only rejuvenates their spirit, but improves their relationships. Regarding the docking, it is tough when the level of the lake lowers, but a minute away is a marina that rents slips for as low as $5.00 per day and could have helped had you asked for it. I am always providing such resources to the guests.

Nice owner and waterfront

  • 3 of 5

Edie was a conscientious host. Nice sunrise view. The space should have been cleaner--though I acknowledge Edie was changing over 2 units as we arrived so maybe this was an exception.
