4 Bedrooms (Sleeps 7-8) and 7 buildings
We bought the house in 1980 and the five kids love it, but as they started having families on their own and moved away we decided to rent the house out in 2008. I have a hotel management background so we have really enjoyed getting to know guests on a better basis than a one-night stay, especially the people who come year after year and the guest comments ... we made the right decision to share the family experience.
Donna purchased this House in 1984
Why Donna chose Webster Springs
We come for the great Elk River fly fishing and the grapes, blueberries, raspberries, rose bud roses (edible) and apple tress were already planted by the original builder, a carpenter.
What makes this House unique
We have rituals -- food is cheap, time stretches, the porch is huge and the television doesn't get turned on. We play Country & Western music, get up early for fly fishing or hunting, then just sit lazily and talk or play board games ... the pace is part of the fun. And sleep late! We added a booster but the cell reception was ok in the kitchen ... tell your boss the service was non-existent or you would have called him back. I'd tell my Mother but she knows the hard line number from the summer she stayed and arranged everything for us, labeling all the sheets, cataloging the apple trees! What a help.

We have been to this cabin several times. Always a great, relaxing trip
We picked this cabin for a skygazing weekend. It was perfect. Very dark skies. The cabin was also very nice.
This is a very unique cabin but not a fancy vacation home if that is what you are looking for. The location is extremely secluded and peaceful yet not difficult to get to. A wonderful yard for our dogs to wander around. The cabin is roomy, clean and comfortable but has unfinished drywall and trim if that type of thing bothers you. Like I said it is a cabin. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need and has an awesome old butcher block work space for those that like to cook. Porch is big and comfortable but a bit lacking in comfortable seating. We bought and left two inexpensive adirondack chairs in order to have something to sit on around the fire. We weren't a fan of the composting toilet. The owner, Donna, was easy to work with and very accommodating to a last minute change of reservation.
We had a wonderful experience at this property. Everything more than I had expected and was just lovely. Owners were very informative and friendly.
The Perfect Getaway!!
My family stayed at the cabin for 2 weeks in the end of June. The cabin itself was way bigger then I expected from the pictures and had everything you could need. It honestly felt like home from the second we got there, but I am a country girl so I'm used to critters like mice and bats. There's plenty of room for a family and the woodwork is absolutely gorgeous! The composting toilet sounded a bit strange but once we got there it was quite impressive, there is absolutely no smell! The location is beyond words, I fell in love and didn't ever want to leave. We were even able to have our dog with us which made it a perfect vacation! The porch had a gate so she could sit out with us at night and we didn't have to worry about her. If you like hummingbirds bring a feeder and make some nectar. We hung one up right by the swing on the porch and they seemed to come from everywhere to eat!! There's lots of places right from the driveway you can hike to and tons to explore. The driveway itself is over a mile long but maintained better then my gravel roads at home. We had no problem making it up and down with our van but I do wish we would have had something with a bit more clearance. Webster Springs is close and has pretty much everything you could need. We went to Spruce Knob, Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks and Helvatia. Everything was within a couple hour drive. I know that sounds like a long ways, but it the mountains you don't get anywhere quick because of the curves and the scenery on the way makes the drive worth it! I can't wait to save up and stay again! I would say if you're looking for a super quiet getaway with beautiful scenery and true relaxation the Keene Lodge is the perfect place!
Colleen and family are terrific guests too; our caretakers are already asking to have them return. We plow all funds back in and I hope to please them soon with our improvements!
