About Ramsey White
I am a retired dentist and currently the Director of the College for Older Adults at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. My wife is a retired museum director and the author of two books on the material culture of our region - 'Great Road Style' (University of Virginia Press) and 'Back Country Makers' (University of Tennessee Press). We both love old houses and local art. This property reflects those interests.
Ramsey White purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Ramsey White chose Harrison
Abingdon is a beautiful small town in Virginia's highlands. It has a large historic district with many restored 19th century homes and commerical structures. My wife and I live in the district and have restored several homes in it. When this adorable Queen Anne cottage came on the market 3 years ago, we could not resist. We have basically left the cottage as it was when built in 1906, but added modern amenities. We look forward to moving in it ourselves when we 'downsize' at some point in the future.
What makes this Cottage unique
Located on the eastern edge of Abingdon's historic district, Summers Cottage is within easy walking distance of six restaurants, the Barter Theatre, the Virginia Creeper Trail (biking and walking)and other local attractions. One can take in Abingdon's historic district and Southwest Virgina's scenic beauty while staying in a home, and enjoying a small town, but cosmopolitan, atmosphere.

Super cute cottage close to everything!
Cottage is right on main street near restaurants, the Virginia Creeper trail and shoppes. Very clean, cute cottage that has full amenities. Will stay again!
Great House With Character!
This house was perfect for our group. We enjoyed the character of older homes and this one was very comfortable and welcoming. The high ceilings and large rooms were a welcome surprise! The location near the Barter Theatre and restaurants on Main St. was perfect! The beds were comfortable and the dining room table was wonderful for our card games. Our first trip to Abingdon was very memorable and the owner was very nice and helpful! If we return again we will surely stay at Summer's Cottage! Zazzy Z's just down the street was fantastic for breakfast and coffee! A winner!
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE STAYING AT SUMMERS COTTAGE
Summers Cottage is wonderful! Perfect for families or a couple. With everything you need and want, in a beautiful historic location.
Lovely historic home in the heart of Abingdon
The home was lovely, spacious and well kept. The host was gracious and helpful. Enjoyed the artwork in the home. Ample, safe parking, in walking distance to many restaurants and shops.
Great little place!
Neat house located very close to everything you need in Abingdon. House was clean and everything functional. Owner was responsive and was advertised. Would rent again.
Great location for a weekend getaway! Walking distance to many places (although it was a little bit on the cold side during our visit). Very convenient to the Barter Theater, Olive Oil Co., and Zazzy Z's is the place to go if you love Coffee and sweets and it's just right down the road! (Best Coffee in town)! I loved the uniqueness of the cottage and enjoyed the art decor through out the cottage. The bed was very comfortable! The cottage is right on Main Street---that's why it's so convenient, so don't expect it to be quiet, you can hear the traffic, BUT it did not keep us up at night. (It's noticeable in the living room area the most). We would definitely stay for a weekend trip again---- we had a wonderful time!
Summers cottage is located three to four blocks from the Virginia Creeper Trail, the Barter Theatre and the Martha Washington Inn.
