Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Property type house

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, couch, 3 memory foam sleeping mattresses, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 1

The Salt Creek Retreat is a 2006 built home on .62 acres with 231 feet of creekfront. It's only 3 blocks to downtown Amity, elevation 162' in the heart of the Yamhill Valley. Coelho winery is downtown and Amity Vineyards and Kristin Hill Winery are nice 1 mile walks North of the home. Downtown Amity has restaurants, a bar, antiques, market and Chevron. The location is bullseye in the middle of Oregon Wine Country with wineries North, South, East and West. McMinnville(Mac) is 5 minutes North, Salem is 17 miles and you can drive 45 minutes to Portland, Cascade Mountains or Coast. The home is in town but private since it's the last house on a dead end street and adjacent to an Oak Forest. There are ALL YOU CAN EAT BLACKBERRIES July-September.

The home has great West facing views of Salt Creek which is below the house and there are farms, countryside and the Coast Range off in the distance on the other side of the creek. The master bedroom has a nice view of the Amity Hills to the East. Western Sunsets are spectacular when weather cooperates. There is great wildlife viewing with many song birds, hawks and a pair of Blue Herons that live on the creek. There's also fish, ducks and beavers that live in the Salt Creek riparian area.

This modern home is furnished with comfort and convenience in mind. It's great for relaxing and enjoying the countryside and creek views from the back deck or living room and kitchen windows. It's also set up for working for those on business trips with Wi-Fi, and a desk in the master bedroom with printer/fax machine. This vacation home will work for many different vacation scenarios.

The home has 3 bedrooms upstairs with walk in closets. The 2 smaller bedrooms have West facing windows with great views of Salt Creek and share a large bathroom with a tub. One of the creek view bedrooms has a pine dresser and queen log bed with comfy mattress right next to the window. The 2nd creek view bedroom has a pine dresser and bunkbed with full on bottom and twin on top. The master bedroom faces East with Amity Hills views and has a pine dresser and queen log bed, futon couch that folds down to a queen bed, desk and private bathroom with tub. Downstairs has a 1/2 bath, kitchen and living area with windows looking at Salt Creek below. There is also a brand new (as of Halloween 2016) bedroom created by remodeling half the garage. The dining area and living space is small. The kitchen door opens up to the wrap-around deck with bbq, table and chairs overlooking the creek. There are .62 acres to explore outside with nice North facing side yard and loop trail leading down to Salt Creek.

The Salt Creek Retreat home is the perfect centrally located home for relaxing in wine country or exploring the Willamette Valley, Oregon Coast, Portland or Cascade Mountains.

About Erich Degner

I run a mail order business in Sherwood and Amity is a quick 35 minute escape to the countryside and nature. I wanted to start a vacation rental business where travelers can stay and relax in a spectacular natural setting within walking distance of a downtown and wineries. I found this perfect home on Salt Creek in Amity to start my endeavor. We clean the home with non-toxic cleaners and stock it with recycled paper products.

Erich Degner purchased this house in 2009

Why Erich Degner chose Willamette Valley

The home has a million dollar view of Salt Creek and countryside and it feels like country since it's on Salt Creek and on the other side of the creek is a farm that frames sunsets when weather cooperates. We can canoe Salt Creek in either direction. It is in a perfect central location in Oregon Wine Country as there are wineries North, South, East and West and 3 within walking distance. You can walk to quaint downtown Amity with groceries, restaurants and antique shops. Amity is an unspoiled small town, neighbors are real friendly. The drive is 50 miles to Portland airport and 72 miles to Eugene Airport. McMinnville is 5 miles North and has a historic downtown, the Evergreen Air Museum and waterslides and all the shopping you need. Only 1 hour drive to the Coast without Portland's traffic

What makes this house unique

You can walk 3 blocks to Coelho winery downtown. It's a nice 1.5 mile walk from home on Rice Lane past Amity grade school and up Amity Vineyards Lane, a nice dirt road with beautiful white oaks to Amity Vineyards. You can also walk North down the railroad tracks a mile and cross Hwy 99 to Kristin Hill Vineyards. There are ALL YOU CAN EAT BLACKBERRIES July-Sept. Relax to beautiful views and wildlife. Walk or bike and only use a vehicle to make big shopping trips to McMinnville. Being able to relax on back deck drinking coffee mornings watching and listening to song birds or evenings drinking local wine or microbrews while enjoying sunsets. Picnicking on creek below house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time with our family at your house. It was close to McMinnville and the Evergreen Museum and Water Park. We would love to stay again! Cheers

Nice central location to coast, vineyards and mountains. Quiet neighborhood.

  • 3 of 5

While the property was centrally located for our needs we were a bit disappointed in the quality of the property. The neighborhood is a little "sketchy" but that said, we had no issues. The access to the creek is really nonexistent as the blackberries (very tasty by the way) and high grass really prevent stream access. We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the property on arrival. The bathrooms were cleaned well but much of the living area didn't appear to have been swept. We did have ants but we were able to deal with them with some spray. The kitchen faucet wasn't functioning properly which wasn't the end of the world, but it was inconvenient. It was particularly hot during our stay and the window air conditioning units simply couldn't keep up, particularly upstairs. Having the multiple bedrooms was really nice and the mattress quality was quite good. We never did find the canoe but it didn't really matter since we couldn't figure out where we would have launched it. Make sure to contact owners in advance to have the information on the key lockbox location, they have it well placed for security (think treasure hunt). If you are there the last weekend of July, make sure to attend the local fire department's pancake breakfast. Huge crowd and fabulous pancakes - get the blueberry pancakes! The property was satisfactory for our trip with a couple of grandkids but we were a bit disappointed in the quality of the maintenance. Blessings

Spring Creek

quiet & comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the private location of this home, with scenic views out the windows. Being from a remote area, we appreciated the rural setting this home offered. I also liked that we could easily walk to the local park, market, coffee shop, antique store ... Amity is a nice town to wander about. Our kids enjoyed playing in the creek, but insect repellant was very much required!

The indoors are comfortable and kid-friendly. The only issue we experienced was a strange odor in the downstairs bedroom/washroom, so we stuck with the upstairs bedrooms, which were airy, bright, and nicely decorated. Next trip to the Willamette Valley, we're renting this home again!

Great location, beautiful view, sleeping arrangements worked well for our group

  • 3 of 5

We stayed Memorial Weekend at this house. Two families of 4, with 4 kids ages 6 and 9. The location and sleeping arrangements worked out well.

A few thoughts if you are considering this location. With the .62 acres as part of the title of the property, I was expecting lots of space for the kids to roam. However, the lot is overgrown with blackberry bushes and the grass is not maintained. It wasn't realistic for the kids to go play beyond the house. Thankfully, Amity has a very nice park within walking distance. And, although we didn't bring bikes, I would have felt comfortable with the kids riding on the street.

One amenity listed for the house is air conditioning. The house has one window unit in the kitchen. We were able to use it for a time, but an electrical issue kept us from using it throughout our visit. By opening the windows, we were able to cool off the upstairs once the sun went down. The windows do not have screens. I felt comfortable that our kids were old enough not to hang out the window, but I would have been nervous with small children.

We ended up sharing the house with what seemed like a very large army of small ants. We thought we were able to reduce their numbers to a manageable level by baiting them the first day. Unfortunately, when we opened our luggage, we realized we had 100+ stowaways.

Homey, comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We really liked this home. We felt like we were guests in a friend's house. There was plenty of room for me and my three colleagues (we were in the area for a conference). We enjoyed the view of the river and farmland. We didn't cook, but noticed the house had a nice, well-equipped kitchen. We were happy to have 2.5 bathrooms. It made getting ready for bed at night and work in the morning easy.

House was very comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

Neighborhood was interesting, but quiet. Deck was private and nice to sit out on in afternoon. Can't really get to water but it was nice to look at. House was nice inside with newer upgrades through the house. Would stay here again to be in this area for wine tours, there are vineyards every where close by. Thank you

Great house near Oregon wineries

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I did a 5k race in Dayton and stayed in this lovely home roughly 20 minutes from the winery where the race was held. It was such a roomy place to come back to after the race and after party. It was very clean and well-maintained and had a nice back deck where we enjoyed mimosas and snacks in the morning. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably. I would definitely stay here again.
