Comfortable and spacious home
We had a very relaxing, wonderful weekend for our girlfriends’ getaway. So much room, beautiful view, and helpful and available owner! Highly recommend staying here!
Out of this world!!
Amazing does not even begin to describe the Sunset Lodge. From the very beginning everything about this was smooth and easy. Communication was excellent with the owners. They were wonderful with sending directions and answering questions. They pay attention to detail, excellent customer service. The Lodge itself was gorgeous!! We had 8 people in our party, plenty of room, supplies were plentiful, beautiful view, secluded but close to shopping for anything you might need. We ranged in age from 17 to 72 and we all loved it. We came for NCAA wrestling in La Crosse, besides going to wrestling we stayed at the Lodge, cooked all of our meals there and had everything we needed. I would love to go back and just sit on the deck and watch the sunset over the river and then go upstairs in the "loft bedroom" and read a book, and then in the morning sit on the swing out back and have a cup of coffee. It was a little too cold to use the fire pit was the only negative but the fireplaces inside made up for it.
The lodge was a wonderful place to stay. I was with a family group of six, and we all enjoyed everything about this comfortable house. (A bathroom on each floor was appreciated!)
The view was beautiful, and the trains were fun to watch. The owners were great to deal with, and I received my deposit refund promptly. If we ever come back to this area, we hope to stay here again.
Fantastic House, Lovely View & Friendly Owners!
This was our 1st stay at this rental property. We absolutely loved our stay at the Sunset Lodge...5+ stars!
First, the reservation process was simple and the owners (Kelly & Judy) were great with correspondence/information/driving directions.
Second, upon our arrival at the house (which happened to be late at night), we were impressed with the cleanliness and spaciousness of the house. The outdoor lighting was on & ample for us to locate the house around 11pm and gave us plenty of light for unpacking.
Third, the interior of the house was clean and had a warm "lodge" feeling. The 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, dining room & living room were spacious & clean. The view from the dining room/living room windows can't be beat. We had the pleasure of viewing incredible sunrises & sunsets over the river each day. The yard was very well maintained, too.
Fourth, although located directly across the street from the train tracks, there was no excessive train noise. The location was great and within a few miles proximity of the Clement's Fishing Barge where we fished daily.
Fifth, we all definitely loved the fact that the house had Wi-Fi. When we have stayed in other units closer to the fishing barge, that was never an option. To have the Wi-Fi was a great benefit, especially with a teenager in tow.
And, finally, we so appreciated the graciousness of the owners. Kelly & Judy put a "welcome" bottle of wine out on the table for our arrival. And, they made sure to stop over to introduce themselves and to see if we had any questions or concerns at all with the rental.
We will definitely look into staying at Sunset Lodge again!
Absolutely Beautiful - Can't Wait to Return!
We were absolutely delighted with our stay at Sunset Lodge. It is a terrific vacation rental, and well maintained.
The location is fabulous - it isn't "in town," so we felt very much at peace and surrounded by a lovely natural setting. It isn't terribly remote, either, so we had ease access to local amenities, including shopping, movies, etc. It's extremely close to LaCrosse, and not far from Prairie du Chien or Winona (MN), all of which we visited with ease.
During our stay, we enjoyed an extremely picturesque drive to Viroqua for the farmer's market and some shopping. We had a great (and huge!) meal at the Great River Roadhouse (just down the road in DeSoto).
The kitchen is great - on the small side, but manageable, and open to the dining and great room area, so we could all talk while we cooked. Be aware that the stove is apartment-sized, so don't try to do a giant roaster full of turkey or anything. For our group, it was just right.
The layout is at once inviting for groups and comfortable for those who want some privacy. The sleeping areas are all very nice, and make good "retreat" points to get away from the rest of your crowd. The great room (and deck) is terrific for games, conversations, and group activities.
Be aware that you will climb stairs in this house. You enter in the "basement" area, which has a family room space and bedroom and bath area. You must climb a full flight of stairs to get to the kitchen, great room, deck, dining room, and two of the bedrooms (and one bath). The master suite is yet another flight of stairs up from there (with it's own bath). This wasn't really a problem for our group - we had one gal recovering from knee surgery, but she managed by planning her "up and down" trips and keeping them to a minimum. This would not be a good choice, however, for persons who simply cannot do stairs - it would likely be frustrating.
YES, the train tracks go by the Lodge. If you require absolute silence, you won't like it (but, really, what *will* you like??). We LOVED the trains. They don't blow horns (no crossing), so you just hear the low rumble of them moving past.
YES, the highway goes by the Lodge (at the foot of the hill). We barely noticed it.
Perhaps the best idea I can give of how fantastic this place is, however, is to note that, before we'd even gone to bed the first night, we all said "Okay, so, next year, when we come back here..." and were making plans for our next trip to the Lodge.
WOW what an amazing place to spend week the most relaxing vacation I have had in years....everything was clean and very well cared for... the peacefulness of the river and awesome sunsets each evening made me feel I was in total isolation.... but the convenience of being 2 miles to Stoddard and 10 miles to LaCrosse was wonderful so many great back roads to travel on our motorcycle and the LaCrosse Loggers were in town so a minor league ballgame was attended and the fireworks from the balcony on the Fourth of July were great... Definitely an amazing place to spend vacation left feeling totally refreshed and ready to get back to the real world was hard to leave but we will be back....
Google Maps is not correct. The house is located 1.5 miles south of Stoddard.
