About the property

Oceanfront House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 1/2 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Location, Location, Location! Unrivaled ocean views from the oceanfront decks and nautical-themed home makes for the perfect beach vacation. Breathe the sea mist as a private walkway leads you to the dune deck and a beautiful beach (consistently ranked as one of America's best). The warm summer waves invite you to swim where the dolphins play. Crowning SEAMIST is a 'crows nest' - seating for six - where morning coffee, sunset cocktails, or star-gazing is at its best. Cook on the deck's gas grill or take a short walk to the Village of Duck for great shopping, restaurants, a spa and sport rentals. Inside, an ample great room boast a rope-swing, plush furnishings, high speed Internet access, well-equipped kitchen with new counter tops and island bar, 6 TVs with premium stations, VCR, DVD, answering machine etc. Two master bedrooms face the ocean. Both have queen beds, 32" flat-screen TVs and ceiling fans. The 'bunk-room' sleeps four and has its own TV. The fourth bedroom has two comfortable twin beds. Most guests return year after year. There are many new additions for 2016 including an upgraded kitchen. The prow shaped deck has lounge chairs, chairs and a large table for outside dinning. The deck also has "child or dog" expandable gates to help you keep little ones where they belong.

Below the main house, is a "man-cave" with another flat screen TV, a full size refrigerator and plenty of seating. Next to it is a game room for the kids with foos ball and air hockey. Across from these rooms is the laundry room with a half bath. An outdoor shower and shaded hammock completes the downstairs layout.

Extra amenities are included

There are so many extras that have not been discussed. The house is built on pilings and has a game room and play area underneath. A screened 'Pirates Den' complete with an adult bar, TV and booty. There is a Nags Head hammock and lots of sand toys. Also included are wave-riding boards, skim boards and beach chairs. The laundry room - with a washer and dryer - is also located down here. Outside this area is a shuffle board court and long drive way with four off-street parking spaces. There is an enclosed outside shower next to the laundry room. The main deck has deck furniture - dinning table, six chairs, two loungers and two small tables. A high chair and port-a-crib is also provided. The lower deck also has a table and four chairs, a water hand-pump and large potted flowers. The dune deck has built-in seating with steps to the beach. Seamist(173-A) is listed with Sun Realty in Duck, NC and someone is always available to take care of any problems that might occur with the house.

So much to see and do!

With the beach in front of you and great shopping, restaurants and a park within walking distance, you may not want to get into your car to explore the many exciting places on the Outer Banks. There are four great lighthouses that are worth seeing - the Currituck Beach Lighthouse in Corolla, Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Ocracoke Island Lighthouse which you have to take a ferry to get to the island. The Whalehead Club and Wildlife Educational Center are interesting, also a 4-wheel drive on the beach to see the wild horses. The site of the first airplane flight by the Wright brothers is a National Park in Kill Devil Hills. The park displays replicas of the original Wright Flyer. Jockey's Ridge, the tallest sand dune on the east coast is in Nags Head. Climbing to the top to view the sunset over the sound is memorable. Para sail and ski in the sound here. Keep driving south on Rt. 12 and you reach Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Oregon Inlet. A visit to the Manteo Waterfront and the Elizabethan Gardens is a great trip. The outdoor drama, "The Lost Colony" is a must.

Fall and Winter

Fall and winter bring their own charm to the Outer Banks. The big crowds are gone and long walks on the beach often have one set of foot prints - yours. September and October are warm and golden; the sea oats are full and heavy, waving over the dunes. The traffic is gone, so a trip to watch the fish come in or just to go out to dinner is a pleasure - no waiting. If fishing is your passion, the piers and the surf off of our beach have produced fantastic catches. Golf is another activity that is more pleasurable during warm days in fall and winter. There are many courses to choose from and again - no waiting. Most of the shops have 'end of the season' sales and the restaurants are happy to see you without reservations. Shells on the beach appear more plentiful. Many people - including the owners - prefer this slower season.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thoroughly enjoyed our autumn visit; we've also been here in the spring. This is at least our sixth visit to SeaMist; it is our "place at the beach." Riley, our aging but lovable lab is at home here. We think that he would like to live here - and so would we. We enjoyed a variety of weather this week. After five relaxing days our daughter, son-in-law and two grand daughters came for the weekend. We had the very pleasant surprise of a wonderful welcoming neighborhood Halloween celebration at MP 10. Our grandchildren really enjoyed it.

Thank you for making SeaMist available - especially to Riley. We look forward to our next vacation here.

Magical spot

  • 5 of 5

We have been vacationing at Seamist for more than 10 years. This is a down to earth and warm beach house. Everything you could need is provided. The crow's nest atop the house provides exceptional views of the sea, sunrises and magnificent sunsets. The night sky is amazing from up there! The two primary bedrooms are perfect and there is a bedroom with 2 twins and a real kids room with 4 bunk beds. If the weather turns there is a well stocked game room below the house with air hockey, foosball and Xbox (bring your own games). Kitchen/dining area are open and extremely bright. The photos on this listing are not deceptive, they are totally accurate. I can not recommend this house enough. It will leave a lasting impression you will not soon forget.

Excellent location, needs updating

  • 3 of 5

First the positives. The location can't be beat. We saw wonderful sunrises and sunsets from the crows nest and deck. It's very convenient to great restaurants, shops and activities. We especially enjoyed Blue Duck Tavern. We also enjoyed the easy beach access. The toys, chairs and umbrella were put to great use.

We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the home. There were ants in the kitchen, crumbs in drawers, and utensils and kitchen equipment like the coffee maker were dirty. The shower curtains have mold and dirt on them. The carpet and furniture have many stains. While the beds are comfortable, the comforters were not clean. Lamps were missing bulbs. All the furniture sppears tird and worn.

We kept very busy outside the home and made great memories, but will be looking to rent a more well maintained home on future visits.

Owner's Response: We were so distressed to learn that the cleanliness of Seamist did not meet the expectations of these guests and have taken several steps to see what went wrong. Seamist has never had a complaint like this before. We have a rental company who cleans between renters, a group who does linens, and an inspector - who follows up utilizing an extensive check-off list to make sure everything is completed. So, someone should have caught any unacceptable conditions. Shower liners, coffee pots, and light bulbs, etc. are routinely replaced as needed. When queried, the manager reported that the housekeeping was done and inspected. They asked why the renters did not call Sun, the rental agency, and report this to them right away so they could have resolved any issues. To further satisfy our concerns, we sent an independent "checker" to make sure the guests who are in this week were happy with the house. They were extremely pleased. We take pride in the fact that Seamist exceeds the expectations of 99.9% of our guests and realize that keeping it fresh requires some updates each winter. The carpet was put in last year. We are glad that they enjoyed the "excellent location", "crows nest", and "made great memories" - and only wish that the rental agency, Sun Realty, had been contacted with these concerns; they would have corrected them and we would not have this embarrassing review.

Relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks at Sea Mist last week of June and first week of July, 2012. There were 8 to 10 of us during the two weeks. Everyone absolutely loved the house and, most importantly, the location. Having now rented a house on the beach, I don't think I could go back to lugging all of our beach stuff from a house further out. The kitchen had everything we needed (except for some problem electric burners, which I am sure maintenance will be fixing). The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms clean and upgraded. The deck is huge and, oh my, the view from the Eagles Nest up top. A great place to view the 4th of July fireworks. We never did get to use the Pirates Den or foosball or air hockey or tandem bike or shuffleboard. But the location can't be beat and we have already prereserved for next year. I should also mention that we brought our yellow lab and our golden retriever who indicated to us that this was their best vacation ever!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review! We are so happy that you had a wonderful vacation and plan to come back next year. The two electric burners were fixed. Thanks for calling the realtor. We want everything to be perfect for our guests. P.S. We have a golden retriever who loves the beach, too. The gates on the deck keep her from spending all of her time in the ocean.
