Set on one and a half acres of beachfront dunes, the Casa Duna compound is a self-contained oasis. Arranged around two beautiful buildings, the compound features comfortable bedrooms, thoughtfully designed indoor and outdoor spaces, two swimming pools, and extensive native cactus and palm gardens. The compound allows for private immersion in one of the world’s great and near-unique environments: the east cape of Baja California Sur. Nestled at the southern tip of the friendly and laid-back fishing village of La Ventana, Casa Duna is built for relaxation and adventure with family and friends. In addition to the main house, which comfortably sleeps 6 adults and 2 children, the property includes Casa Pitaya, a detached and private casita to accommodate 2 more adults and up to 4 children. The entire compound enjoys spectacular seafront, the best beach in the area, and mountain and island views, almost from every room. It is not unreasonable to say that it is the finest oceanfront property in the area.

We had a fantastic stay at Casa Duna. The property is very well maintained, its in a perfect location, communication with the owner was easy, and the on-site house manager is amazing and extremely helpful. 10/10 in all respects. This is an extremely special place and we will definitely be back.

La Ventena retreat

We stayed for a week for our family's spring break trip with three generations. The home is very well done and Chris is very responsive (literally 10 minutes from an email to him). The home is set up well for three couples, the fourth bedroom is a trundle bed through another bedroom with a shared bath. This is one of the nicest appointed homes we have found in Baja.

Beautiful

Our family travels quite a bit. Teen daughters, older parents, my husband and I. We like to adventure...but also spend time getting to know each other better through eating well, playing games, talking, sharing our latest book. Casa Duna was absolutely divine in all the right ways. We made fish tacos in the beautiful kitchen, ate on the patio, swam in the sheltered pool in the windy afternoon, fell asleep in the gorgeous bedrooms staring at the moonrise and hearing the gentle surf. We decided upon arrival we would sit in every single possible spot to absorb each view and talk. We were successful. We snorkeled, paddleboarded, walked on the endless beach, sifted different sizes of sand, played scrabble, listened to Jazz on the sound system, mountain biked through the cactus. Endless. This house is sophisticated. The interior design is gorgeous, the architecture perfect. Nothing overdone. Only done perfectly well. We will definitely come back.

Simply Brilliant

No need to overthink this - Casa Duna lives up to all the reviews. First class in every respect. This area is beautiful and if you like to avoid the tourist traps, then this is the place for you. Both Chris and Ramon make things so smooth and easy. Glad I took the advise of other reviewers and treated ourselves to chef Ramon's amazing culinary skills for multiple nights.

Ultra Lux Vacation Home in Paradise. Best. Vacation. Ever. Period. Already reserved for next year!

Third year in a row at Casa Duna, already reserving for next year with my family. Words don't really do the experience justice. Everything is sublime. Pools, views, SUPing, seakayaking, biking through cactus, kiteboarding (clearly) -- and this year added the most amazing 6-course meal prepared by world-class chef Ramon (amazing pineapple guacamole, mouth-watering shrimp ceviche, scrumptious tortilla soup, delicious fresh tomato and cotija cheese salad, locally caught fish with homemade red mole, and fresh baked bread pudding muffin with caramel sauce....to die for! Worth reserving meals if available! Everything about La Ventana is relaxing - and Casa Duna is clearly the nicest and most luxurious place in town. Highly recommend if you can afford it.

Best ever!

We loved Casa Duna. It was the best place any of my friends and I have ever stayed. The house and property are 5 star with attention to every detail. Chris, the property manager was great, making us feel welcome and helping out with any questions or needs. Ramon cooked for us and was masterful in the kitchen!.To top it off the El Nortes were blowing so the kiting was amazing. We enjoyed live music ar Baja Joes along with their great selection of microbrew beers, and of course shrimp filled chile rellanoes at Pablos. It was a great experience and I highly recommend it. John

Paradise!

My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon at Casa Duna. I cannot imagine a more perfect spot. It was a perfect mix of romance, luxury, relaxation and adventure. Each morning involved a bike ride through the dessert and stand up paddle boarding on the peaceful and calm water. Chris and Ramon are the perfect hosts and will help in whatever you need to have the perfect getaway! We highly recommend a meal (or several) cooked by professionally trained and talented Ramon. The house is perfectly decorated and has everything you need! We cannot wait for our next trip!

PERFECTION!

My extended family and I stayed here for a week in June 2015. Our time there was nothing short of amazing! Everything, and I mean everything, was perfect. The staff, the landscaping, the house, the decor, the pools, the plentiful sitting areas, the paddle boards and kayak, the views, the beach (which we had to ourselves all week), the ocean...all perfect. Staying here truly felt like luxury! It was relaxation and leisure at its finest. A major highlight of the trip (that I recommend 100%), was having our dinners prepared by three wonderful local women (this can be arranged through the property manager). These women knew their way around the kitchen and cooked every meal from scratch using extra fresh, local ingredients. We had guacamole, pico de gallo, a salad every night. Some other meals included fried fish, rice, re-fried beans, fajitas, shrimp quesadillas, chili rellenos, shrimp diablo, chocolate flan, and two different types of tres leches cake. It was definitely a treat and worth every penny. As for La Ventana itself, as cute a little town as it is, there's not much to it. It's still worth checking out to get a feel for the local scene. La Paz, BCS's captial, is a short, scenic 45 minutes away and is a must do. We did a snorkeling excursion through a company called Espiritu y Baja that was absolutely fantastic. We got a wonderful and very informational tour of the Sea of Cortez, snorkeled with sea lions, saw dolphins, and ate homemade ceviche on a private beach. This is a must do!! I really don't have one negative thing to say about Casa Duna and its surroundings. If you're on the fence about vacationing here, just do yourself a favor and go for it. You won't regret it for a second!

Everything was perfect

Casa Duna is a beautiful home on the beach, the house seems brand new and you can tell the level of detail in their architecture and furniture that this home was built by professionals, we feel lucky to have found casa Duna and we will definitely recommend to our friends it's only a 30 minute drive from La Paz but seems like an other world, it even has two pools one that is for summer on the beach and the bigger pool for winter protected from the northern winds not to mention the two jacuzzis, the property manager was very helpful and tended to out every need, look no more this is the vacation rental you are looking for.

Wow! Vacation of lifetime!

Not one negative thing to say about Casa Duna. It is in one of the most beautiful areas of the world and is the coolest house that we have ever had the pleasure to stay at. Worth every penny you pay. Pools are marvelous. People, food, service, laughs, adventure, relaxation, sand, beach, cooking five star.

Fabulous House, Incomparable Location

Casa Duna, where my wife and I spent the week with a total party of 5, is a beautiful house in a jewel of a seaside community. Authentic Mexico with just the right balance to make it an ideal place for both relaxation and recreation, whether world class kite boarding, sport fishing, snorkeling, or hiking or biking through the incredible Cardon cactus forest right behind the house. The beach in front of the house is magnificent, with soft sand and crystal clear water. You can walk for miles on the beach (or through the cactus forest) and hardly see another person and certainly very limited development: ideal! The amenities of the house, which is brand new, are excellent, and it is beautifully and tastefully designed and decorated. Browse the bookshelves lined with local history, botanical and biological guides and great literature. And last but not least, the staff at the house are excellent, taking care of every need, and preparing first class gourmet Mexican meals on request.

another perfect family vacation!

We just returned from our second amazing visit to Casa Duna! We had been looking forward to it since last year and our stay again exceeded our dreamy expectations. The house is perfectly situated and appointed, and the weather, views, and accommodations left nothing to be desired. our 2 small kids (ages 2 and 5) had a blast in the pool and hot tubs, and played every morning on the beach. It is so convenient to have everything we need for the kids already there (highchair, porta-crib, sand toys, life jackets, etc). We enjoyed the sea kayak and SUP most mornings, and spent afternoons lounging by the pool and exploring nearby attractions. We don't yet kite board, but enjoyed watching the kites from every area of the house. We shopped for food in town, and cooked in the perfectly appointed kitchen, and had a great pizza party one night with freshly-cooked home-made pizzas in the pizza oven. Chris and Ramon made sure that we had everything we needed, and were available if we needed them. The views can't be beat, truly, from every room. sunrise, moonrise, star watching were all spectacular. the house is peaceful, luxurious, comfortable all at once. We are already planning next year's trip and can't wait to return!

Escape the crowds and enjoy beach-front tranquility in La Ventana, Baja, Mexico

We traveled all the way from Hong Kong to this idyllic beach-front house on La Ventana Bay in the Sea of Cortez in La Ventana, Baja, Mexico. The house sits on an amazingly beautiful pristine beach that in one direction is a short walk into the small town of La Ventana, and in the other direction is sand and dunes stretching for miles almost without a building or other man-made structure to be seen. The beautiful house is made to take maximum advantage of the water on one side and the desert hills and cactus forest on the other with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors throughout, so that it almost flows out onto the beach. There are three bedrooms, two pools (one ocean-side and one desert-side), two hot tubs (one by the pool and one on the roof), and several outdoor eating areas. The gourmet kitchen had everything we needed. There was a small gym with beach views, and a wonderful open roof area to enjoy the sunset and margaritas. Running, hiking, mountain biking trails through the Cardon cactus forest (many of the cactus in this area are hundreds of years old) are just steps from the house and kept us in shape and entertained when we were not on the beach, or in the water paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming or kite boarding. This bay is one of the top rated kite boarding locations in the world. We took lessons from Baja Joe's just down the beach - excellent instructors and great fun. To top it off, there is also a truly helpful and knowledgeable property manager to answer all questions, help arrange tours to La Paz to swim with the sea lions and whale sharks, go scuba diving, or arrange a gourmet chef to come cook fabulous dinners. The house is ecologically-minded utilising solar and recycled water for irrigation. You absolutely cannot get better than this property.

A truly magical vacation

We just returned from a truly magical vacation at Casa Duna. The home and property are even more breathtaking than pictures can capture. There are so many outdoor seating areas, each with unique and magnificent views, that you need a full week just to enjoy each one. The home is perfectly appointed with everything you need, and there is no shortage of things to do. We enjoyed kayaking, stand-up-paddle boarding, swimming, hiking, cycling, and yes, relaxing. Although wind season hadn't officially started, Chris, the extremely helpful house manager, connected my husband to Ozzie, a local kite-boarding instructor, for an introductory lesson. There were several boarders in the water, and it was incredible to watch. I can only imagine how exciting it would be to watch during wind season! We had some terrific meals, but our favorite was our homemade pizzas cooked in the outdoor pizza oven. We bought the dough at Playa Central, and Chris helped us with the oven. We had a lovely dinner at M's-fresh and delicious food in a lovely setting. The sticky buns at Cafe Triunfo were the best I have ever had. The house had a nice fitness room that was equipped with a recumbent bike, elliptical, weights, and a yoga mat -just what I needed for a nice workout. Thank you, Casa Duna, for giving us the opportunity to spend time with wonderful friends, create lasting memories, and enjoy the beauty and charm of La Ventana. We are looking forward to returning to this wonderful oasis!

Vacation Idyll

We spent a week at Casa Duna with two other couples and had a wonderful time. The house is designed to allow you to appreciate the natural beauty of the Sea of Cortez and the surrounding mountains from virtually anywhere. The bedrooms each have their own charm and are outfitted with every possible comfort. We stayed in the first floor bedroom and were able to walk out onto our private patio to stargaze and sit in the moonlight every night. The sunsets and moonrises are amazing. The house has a fully equipped kitchen that makes cooking easy and fun and when you don't want to cook, Ramon makes delicious Mexican specialties (his chicken enchiladas with green sauce are something special). The hot tubs, pools and ocean give every opportunity to enjoy the water. The paddle boarding is fantastic even for beginners, the kayak lets you explore the bay, and watching the kiteboarding/surfing was a lot of fun and probably even more fun for those brave enough to try it. The property is managed seamlessly by Chris and he is a very knowledgeable about things to do in La Ventana, La Paz, and off-road on the beach or in the mountains. We had a great time swimming with the sea lion pups and snorkeling the reefs of Espirito Santo Island. We miss it already and are looking forward to a return stay.

Perfect vacation home

Couldn't ask for anything more....the ultimate in luxury. The homeowners thought of literally everything you could need....just bring your swimsuit. Ramon, the chef, is AMAZING....gourmet meals were delicious and plentiful (almost too plentiful, bring your appetite!) Definitely request his strawberry-jalapeno margaritas! Can't wait to come back!

Great for extended family including young children

The house was excellent and the location was great. My sons enjoyed using the kayak and paddle boards and trying kite boarding and the small grandsons enjoyed the beach and the rear pool. We enjoyed snorkeling almost directly in front of the house. There were more local activities but we had more than enough to please us. We took advantage of the optional cook for all 7 dinners and were very pleased. It was a real treat and affordable compared to going out to restaurants daily and so much easier with small children. That let us spend time with the family instead of cooking or going out.The meals were outstanding with the freshest local seafood and the service was excellent. They served us appetizers on the patio and all meals had soup, salad and desert. My wife would love to get a few of their recipes. The fourth bedroom in the exercise room was not convenient as it is not connected to the rest of the house. The internet connection was slow, as I understand limited by the local infrastructure. It is a beautiful modern and luxurious house with high end appliances and unbelievable amount of multiple extra patios on multiple levels. It was even more impressive than we imagined. Some of the ladies wanted to do shopping for local items and 2 hours to Cabos did not make sense so we drove to LaPaz and found a great pottery shop where the potter was on site. Better description and directions to shops and galleries would have been helpful. The manager was very helpful in answering questions before and during the rental and responsive. All in all an excellent vacation.

A not so small piece of heaven on earth..............

Having travelled from Europe and arrived in the dark, we had no idea of the delights that would greet us the following morning other than the flashes of the fireflies alongside the dark road in what looked like trees but were, in fact, giant cacti! Casa Duna is absolute paradise, beautifully run and maintained with everything you could possibly want, positioned on a stunning beach front just a short walk from La Ventana and surrounded by a magnificent cardon forest. We are not kite surfers but it was spectacular to watch. We found wonderful coral reef snorkelling just a short drive from the house and there are great bike rides through the cactus forest - also stunning for photography (my special interest). The humming birds that visited their particular favourite flowers by the pool at 5.00 pm every day were enchanting. Swimming with whale sharks was a thrilling experience as well. Chris, the 'manager' of the property is more than outstanding, there seems to be nothing that he does not know or cannot arrange. The bedrooms are superb, very comfortable with beautiful views over the Sea of Cortez - sunrises and moonrises were spectacular. There was evidence of turtle nests right in front of the house but it was the wrong season for babies. How great it would be to be there when there are young.This is the most wonderful vacation home, you can either rest and relax in complete privacy or go out and about and enjoy all the local fun and attractions. There are excellent restaurants within easy reach as well as fabulous local beach bars and restaurants although eating home-made pizzas fresh from the wood-fired pizza oven, while star gazing, takes a lot of beating!! Explore further afield and have a great day out in La Paz but I suspect you will not want to stray too far from the little piece of heaven that is Casa Duna. It may be a long journey from Europe but it was more than worth it in every single way. I came back to the UK with hundreds of wonderful photographs, particularly of the kite surfing and fishermen dealing with their catches on the beach. As non-kiters and non-windsurfers we still had an amazing time, there is so much you can do there. A really outstanding home and location - thank you for a stunning week.

Wonderful family vacation - spectacular home and setting. we can't wait to go back!

We had a perfect vacation at Casa Duna! Our 4-year old had a blast playing on the beach, swimming in the pools, and exploring the cactus forest in the ranger. The house is beautiful and has everything you could ever want - all the luxuries and convenience of a hotel, with wonderful privacy and beauty! the house was also fully outfitted for traveling with a baby - including a highchair, bouncy seat, and crib/playpen. La Ventana is a charming little town, and we walking along the beach to dinner, and exploring local restaurants for delicious and authentic Mexican food. Everything was perfect, better than we even imagined, and we are planning our next trip! I would definitely recommend Casa Duna!

A+ for Location, Amenities, and Services!

We stayed at Casa Duna in early January and could not have imagined a better way to welcome in the new year. The entire property is breathtaking. Most impressive, aside from the luxurious amenities (hot tubs, fireplaces, wood-burning oven, high-end kitchen, extensive gardens) is the homes’ design that allows for simultaneous indoor-outdoor living. The kiteboarders in our group - in particular - were thrilled with the ability to monitor the wind status without leaving the comfort of the couch, and the location of the home was the perfect ending to their downwinders. Of note, Chris, the property manager, is exceptional. He is very knowledgeable of local resources and is incredibly attentive throughout your stay. We’ll definitely be staying at Casa Duna again!

Luxury inside and out- best of Ventana

We came with Cami (see below review). It is impossible to describe this HOME with words or pictures. Everything is exactly how one wants a seaside casa. Every corner has a different view of ocean, garden or cactus. It would take days to explore each corner of the house. Then there is outside! A walk on the beach at sunset or dawn. A short walk into town, along the beach, if you must. Chris is the ultimate host. He seems to sense just when and where to show up, to add a touch of class, or show one how to operate the big screen. He has a wealth of knowledge of Ventana, from kite-surfing to spearfishing to mountain biking the area, or where and when to eat at the local 5 star restaurants. Casa Duna is a treasure. Combined with Ventana and all it has to offer,we will be coming back, and will definitely recommend it to our friends. Guess that means we better book next trip now.

Great Vacation Place for Families!

We had a great time at Casa Duna! We have a toddler and 3 month old and it was equipped for even them to have a fun time! We were able to relax and enjoy the jacuzzi, pool and the view was just gorgeous to wake up to, as well as the sound of the waves. It was fun to be able to make a delicious pizza in the wood burning oven! And to be steps from the beach to splash in the waves! Great Place for the whole family to enjoy the beach yet feel at Home! La pasamos muy bien en Casa Duna! Tenemos una bebé de tres meses y una niña de tres años quienes también disfrutaron de el equipamiento de la casa. Pudimos relajarnos, disfrutamos de el jacuzzi, la alberca y nos despertábamos con la vista al mar y al sonido de las olas. Disfrutamos de pizza hecha al aire libre en el horno de ladrillo. A tan solo pasos de la playa disfrutamos de ir en la mañana a jugar con las olas aún en pijama! Simplemente un lugar maravilloso para disfrutar de la playa al mismo tiempo de la privacidad y comodidad de casa.

Designed by LA-based architectural firm Shubin Donaldson, Casa Duna was built to pay respect to the fragile ecosystem around it: primary structures are built from highly efficient recycled materials, solar panels provide both power and hot water, and the lush gardens are irrigated by waste-water.
