About this property
The Hideaway of Crooked Lake
Looking for the perfect Northern Michigan escape? Be sure to check out this cozy cottage nestled on a private drive with shared access to Crooked Lake.
The Hideaway is an older cottage full of character with a private backyard and shared access to Crooked Lake. It actually has some fun history behind it and was used as a hideout by bank robbers back when the Mackinaw City bank heist took place. We wanted to keep that historical feel so this place has that traditional lake cottage charm with some modern conveniences that will make your stay more comfortable.
It is located on a small, shared easement close to the main US-31 highway. There are only about 5 houses on Cedar Lane. It is close to the main highway US-31, but is tucked behind a row of trees to help with the noise and privacy. There is a shared access point to Crooked Lake at the end of of the private drive. Kayaks are available for your use, the main bike path is across the road, and marina is in walking distance.
The Hideaway is also conveniently located near Harbor Springs Downtown (10 minute drive), Petoskey (12 minute drive), the Mackinac Bridge (30 miles north), and Mackinac Island Ferry Service (28 miles north).
For summer guests, it’s located close to local marinas, the bike trail, hiking, state parks and much more! For fall and winter guests, it’s located close to orchards, the tunnel of trees, snowmobile trails, and the ski hills.
We were born and raised in Northern Michigan and love all that it has to offer! We can’t wait to host your stay and are more than happy to help with local recommendations.

We stayed here in mid-October and we had a great time! Stephanie the hostess was so quick to respond to any questions or if we needed help! The location was perfect and the décor was so cute! We would definitely recommend this location to our friends!
Loved our stay at the Hideaway of Crooked Lake! Very clean with great amenities. We took the kayaks on the lake, enjoyed the firepit area and, of course, the inside of the cabin was great! The host was very thoughtful and quick to respond to messages.
Rented the property for my mom and daughter to stay at while my daughter did a day camp in Harbor Springs. Very clean, beautifully decorated and perfectly situated. Host was very easy to communicate with.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage! It was very clean, stylishly decorated and well stocked. There was nothing that we needed that wasn't provided. We'll definitely keep this place in mind for another get away!
This was the perfect place to stay with my wife for a mini honeymoon. Minutes away from petoskey, close to harbor springs and mackinaw! Very clean and organized with all necessary cooking items!
Great location, quaint little place for my husband and I to spend the weekend. Equipped with everything you might need and clean, but the structure itself is on the older side and you can certainly “feel” that during your stay. Thank you!
The house is situated in a nice neighborhood a very short walk to a lake. The accommodations are accurate as listed online. The owner was good about communicating. My only complaint was that the floors were dirty on arrival and could have used a more thorough swiffer\vacuum.
What a lovely compact cottage. Everything we needed. We could get everywhere (despite the roadworks). Also HIGHLY recommend House of Pies down the road. Made for a cosy lunch back at the cottage.
Cute property, nicely updated decor, great location! Surprisingly comfortable daybed!
Only downside was we didn't realize the only access to the only bathroom is through the bedroom. Being there with brother and favorite sister-in-law made that not a problem, though! Otherwise probably best for a couple with kids.
Wonderful stay!
We enjoyed our short stay. Cute cabin, has everything you need including nice size refrigerator and washer/dryer! It is an older cabin, but inside it is nicely decorated. It did get a bit hot, even with the window unit they have in the living room, but there are a few fans to put in the bedroom. Lake access is limited. We felt like we were always being watched by lakeside homeowners when we put the kayak in on the shore (can't use docks). But the cabin has everything you need and is in a nice area.
This is the perfect property. You are located in a quaint settlement, yet close enough to the fun. The hosts have thought of everything! Need to wash clothes? Toss them in the HE washer because soap has been provided. Need to sleep with the fan? There are extras in the storage closet. And the Murphy Bed is the coolest contraption ever! The kitchen is a nice size with a full sized fridge, stove, microwave, and dining table. And it is clean and smells great. You cannot go wrong!
The place is very cute and conveniently located between Petoskey and the surrounding area. It was well stocked with things a person might need whether kitchen or bathroom, and cutely decorated. Kitchen appliances were nice. There was unfortunately gunk on one of the bathroom towels, slight mold on the shower curtain, burns and stains on the comforter, some silverware was dirty, and it was difficult at times to know if the front door was locked or not. Overall a nice place, however for the expected cleaning fee we expected the place to be even cleaner than it was. Otherwise it was cute and lovely, thank you :)
It was delightful! The place was extremely clean, spacious despite the small size, and had everything we could need. (Including a washer and drier in case you didn't pack enough clothes or might want to pack light and just do laundry.) On top of meeting our needs, they provided a handy guide to the area in case we didn't already know it, and a few extra amenities that went above and beyond. A little fire pit in the back, kayaks in the shed, quality internet and good tv options with the Roku. If the weather got too hot or too cold, there was a handy window ac unit, and a cute little stove fireplace in case it got cold. We never needed heat, but that AC was a godsend! The weather was delightful, and Ponshe is always welcoming. We enjoyed the water, walks down to the boathouse, and plenty of stargazing. When we weren't out on the town or exploring little Traverse Bay, we were in the hideaway enjoying a delicious homemade breakfast with goodies from the local Dutch Oven Bakery, and Plath's Meats! Can't wait till next year.
This property accommodated all our needs. However, being from a construction background this place could use some love. Windows are old, floors uneven, and no central heat. Bathroom door was changed from a left hand open to a right hand open by simply turning the door upside down. That's kind of hillbilly in my book. But all things considered this place covered all our needs, management was very responsive when we had a small problem, and overall the place was okay. It's not actually on the lake, but several houses down on a shared driveway. While I may be more critical when others I really would not discourage anybody from staying here.
Very cute house that gave us a great base for exploring the area. Everything was clean & felt fresh. Great TV & comfy living space. Huge fridge & the kitchen has everything you need.
very accessible to travel to Petosky and Charlevoix, and the state park
Property was exactly what it advertised to be. Bed and murphy bed were very comfortable. Amenities were as promised. Enjoyed our stay immensely, will return.
This is an adorable cottage, decorated nicely, very clean with all that you need. There was plenty of firewood left for our stay and we had access to two great kayaks and could sit at the water's edge just down the road. We would definitely go back. We had a few instances that we needed to speak with the owner and she called us/texted us back immediately. It was a great stay!
