About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Experience the beauty and tranquility of Fort Myers Beach from a furnished private house on the canal. Two bedroom, one with a new posturepedic king-size bed and one with twin beds. Fully equipped kitchen; utility room with washer and dryer and solar heated screened in pool. Furnished in casual island style just across the street from seven miles of beautiful sandy beaches.

Convenient to restaurants, shops, movie theater and golf. Shell Gas station, Colonial Bank, Island Hair Gallery, 7-11 within a block. Located at the southern end of the island, this house is the perfect retreat for couples and families. Close enough to water sports, fishing and shopping. Everything is within reach yet this home is in a quiet area with residents, Royal Palm Trees and warm ocean breezes. At the end of the street is Charley's Boat House Grill which has been a local favorite for over 25 years. Also we are close to the Outrigger.

Forget your watch at home, bask in the sun, walk the beach, and enjoy the tropical flowers on Fort Myers Beach where tomorrow will be just as tough!

Karen,

Just a quick note to say we had a great time. The cottage is very nice, you have it furnished beautifully, it's well maintained and clean. I will tell my friends about it and I'll come back again.

The weather was great so we enjoyed the pool & beach.

Thanks again

About Don and Karen Ostendorf

We bought this house for retirement as it is small, cute, and cozy. It is about 900 sq. ft. and has everything we need including a dock and the canal so we have easy access to fishing. We are now at retirement age and still feel the same way after many visits to the island. Our cottage is all on the ground level, we have 7-11 at the end of the street, our own beach access and plenty of privacy in our lanai if we just want to lounge by the pool.

Don and Karen Ostendorf purchased this house in 2002

Why Don and Karen Ostendorf chose Fort Myers Beach

I think the weather was the deciding factor. We are from the Midwest and here in Minnesota, summer is too short. The flowers and the palm trees are so therapeutic that we couldn't resist. We also like the mid-island location as we can access the South end bridge or the North end bridge so it is very convenient.

What makes this house unique

We have all the comforts of home. We like to think that we have covered all the details and we know our guests appreciate the amenities that we have to make their vacation special.

Karen,

I stayed at your Beach Bungalow at beautiful Ft. Myers Beach the first

week of March. I'm an amateur photographer and took about 400 photos

while I was there, one of which I submitted to the Star Tribune website

for their gallery of vacation photos. Well, they printed it in the Travel

Section of yesterday's paper (Sunday May 17th). It made me very happy to

be able to share my vacation memories with the paper's readers. Here's a

copy for your enjoyment. Feel free to use it anyway you wish to market

your wonderful beach house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was in the 90's every day. We had nothing planned just took each day as a blessing to be together. It was nice to sit by the pool or on the dock. The fishing was bad--caught only one all week. Great restaurants we discovered. Charley's Boat House, Sunflower Café and the "kitchen table".

Other thoughts to share: You have a piece of paradise here. Every room is nicely furnished and the kitchen was well equipped.

The house was perfect. Had all the amenities you could need. Minutes walk away from the beach where you can watch some of the most beautiful sunsets. With out a doubt will stay there again.

BEST VACATION EVER

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a place to spend our 40th wedding anniversary. We couldn't have found a better place. The house was perfect. It was clean, had everything you could possibly need and then some. We especially loved the Lanai with the pool and lounge chairs for relaxing and peace and quiet. The location couldn't have been better. Beautiful sandy beach was just a short walk away, there is also a hotel close by with a Tiki bar and music playing most nights. So much to do in the area: deep sea fishing, Sanibel and Captiva Island, kayaking to name just a few. We loved it so much we were able to spend an extra 2 days and met our host Don who we really enjoyed spending some time with and gave us some great ideas on places to go. Don and Karen were so helpful! Thank you so much Don and Karen for making our 40th anniversary celebration such a memorable one and we hope to return.

Quaint cottage near beach

  • 5 of 5

We didn't personally meet our hosts, but stayed in contact via text message. We had their and phone numbers and knew to call them with any questions or concerns. I only had a couple of questions, which were answered immediately. The way the residence is depicted in its description is exactly what we had been expecting, and got. The home is cute, quaint, cozy, comfortable and clean, with all the amenities you would expect from a home and then some, whether sunning by the pool, relaxing on the dock, or relaxing/watching TV and the end of the day. The location, a quiet neighborhood across the street from the beach, was the best! The walk to the beach, which is where we spent most of our time, is very short. A little bit longer walk, via sidewalk, will find you near amenities of restaurants, stores and a CVS. A couple times I heard people on the beach complaining about their hotel accommodations -- noisy neighbors keeing them up all night, housekeeping cleaning a room late in the afternoon when the guest would have preferred being in the shower after a long day on the beach -- obviously, in a house, such as this beach house, you are in complete control of your destiny! We had the house for a week and couldn't have been happier.

Excellent piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time using VRBO and we were VERY PLEASED! We are a family of four, so the two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with twin beds worked out great. The wifi was fast, the hot water never ran out and the kitchen supplies and towels were well stocked.

A great part for my husband and I was that most places were within walking distance....the beach, Church, Publix Grocery Store, several restaurants and a vendor that sold fresh fruit and vegetables every day.

The house was ideal, especially the solar sitting pool in the back yard. We used this every afternoon after the beach and sightseeing. A perfect set-up. It's in a quieter neighborhood, which worked well for us.

Karen sent a text message the day we arrived to welcome us. Both her and Don were very easy to reach and when we asked to arrive a little earlier than check-in they made it happen.

I would highly recommend this piece of paradise!! Thank you Karen and Don:)

This place is for sale and the owner seemed more interested in her Realtor than her Renter. She felt we needed to know all about it, as well as the day before checkout when she E'd AND texted to be sure we were out by 10 am as the Realtor was coming. Kind of ruined our mood.

Very cluttered kitchen cupboards, made putting away hand washed dishes annoying.

Not great value for the money, and renting the bikes in the garage would cost another C-note.

Not a large place- I wouldn't recommend it for 4 people. Second BR extremely small.

Generally very tired and in need of a reno, thank goodness there was good water pressure in shower.

The "new" mattress is by no means new anymore. We took off the plastic lined mattress cover :-o and spun the mattress around after the 1st painfully awful night.

A/C worked but old style and noisy. Was nice to have a few old beach things to use.

Old style tv in master bedroom, no HBO - newer one in living room was good.

I've vacation-rented numerous times - was not a fan of this one.

Everything is labelled, some people like that, it made us not feel at home. Lovely area, but better options available

Owner's Response: Linda, We always leave our phone number on the counter and in the final email to encourage our guests to call if they have issues. We never got any correspondence from you during your stay. We respond immediately as we are in the area. The house is for sale, however, showings are only done with the ok of the guests and none were requested during your stay. This is a quaint cottage and we have it decorated in that style. The pictures are accurate. One of our guests loved the mattress so much they went home and ordered one identical to ours. Bikes on the island rent for $10-$15 per day per bike. We charge $25 a week for each bike. The check in and check out times allow us enough time to clean for the next guest. Since you never called or emailed about anything while you were here, we couldn't make any adjustments. Our guests are the main priority. Don and Karen

Cozy little cottage

We needed a place to stay for softball tournament in Fort Myers. This was a perfect location for us due to softball fields 20 minutes away and we had the beach between games. Will definitely be back next year for next tournament. Thank you Karen for letting us use your home, it was a great place to come back to each night for relaxing.

Fort Myers Beach: Welcome to the beautiful barrier islands of Fort Myers Beach-Estero Island and San Carlos Island – where the sun shines nearly every day and the average temperature is 74 degrees. Beaches are probably the No.1 attraction, with the turquoise blue to bright green waters of the Gulf of Mexico lapping at the silky, white sands and seashells – for the collector in everyone. Called the “world’s safest beach”, it’s an ideal site for family vacations, for there are no steep drop-offs, riptides or undertows. Everywhere you go, wildlife is abundant. Shore birds such as egrets, pelicans, spoonbills, seagulls and herons are found near every body of water, from the gulf to the back bay. Sometimes, even the bald eagle can be spotted soaring over our islands. Fishing and boating are popular pastimes for residents and visitors alike – there are even restaurants you can get to by boat for lunch on (or near) the high seas. Yes, the comforts of civilization are evident as well. The m
