Property description

Relax and unwind in an Idyllic Irish Retreat. This is the perfect Irish countryside cottage to explore Western Ireland!

Open the door. Eden Retreat wraps its arms around you from the moment you walk inside. This is a large, cozy home with all the modern amenities. Tucked on a hillside, trees dot the edges of the one-acre yard, with gardens, and the lush Irish countryside just beyond. Eden Retreat is an ideal hideaway for one or more couples traveling together. It’s also a great lodging for families to gather.

Eden consists of a lovely main home and a detached, little cottage with full bathroom. A 1,000 square foot covered deck surrounds the cottage, some covered for all weather, offering a fine outdoor retreat and seating for all! The hot-tub cottage is a cheerful, bright space featuring an indoor hot tub encased in sandstone. The cottage has its own bathroom with shower, and may be used as a fifth bedroom on request. A deluxe, full height, queen-sized (and very comfortable!) Aerobed will be supplied.

This home is the best of both worlds. Peaceful and quiet, Eden is tucked on the outskirts of Ennis, a charming and bustling market town, and the capital of County Clare. Only 20 minutes from Shannon Airport, 30 minutes from Clare’s rugged scenic coast, and 3 minutes from the M18 motorway linking Galway & Limerick, Eden’s location is ideal for exploring the best of Western Ireland.

The stunning, peaceful ambiance of Irish nature is one step outside your back door. A custom-paved patio, perfect for parties and lounging, awaits you. Gracious sandstone walls and wooden steps lead through terraced lawns and flower gardens.

Eden welcomes children of all ages! There is an extensive wooden play set with slide and swings in the large landscaped yard. Inside, kids can discover a variety of books, games and DVDs, as well as a Playstation2 console with many games.

Here you will find that Irish (Gaelic) is the most widely spoken language and the locals are quite removed from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. One of the most famous attractions on Inis Mor (the largest island) is the ancient stone fort of Dun Aengus. This fort dates back to the Celtic Iron Age around the first century AD and is perched atop spectacular 300 foot cliffs that drop straight down to the Atlantic.

Galway has been commercially important since the 11th century when it was a centre for trade with Spain and Portugal. In 1477 Christopher Columbus paid a visit. Explore the Crannog, the Ring Fort, the Medieval Castle and the ‘Brendan Boat’ – a leather hulled boat built by Tim Severn, who sailed across the mid-Atlantic re-enacting the voyage of St. Brendan and the early Christian monks reputed to have discovered America centuries before Columbus. Owner info

Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: Ennis gets its name from the Irish word “inis” (island) because it is virtually surrounded by the River Fergus, a melodious presence throughout. The streets of Ennis are narrow and charming, and some do not allow cars. There are plenty of locals here—Ennis is no tourist trap—and you’ll hear voices that are raised in laughter or storytelling in bakeries and bookstores alike. The Friary at the bottom of Abbey Street was founded by the O’Briens in the 13th century. Many of its original features survive. It’s breath-taking and has a textured silence that speaks through the centuries.

Why the Owner Chose Clare, Co. Clare, Ireland:
But, the main attraction in Ennis is the locals’ love of traditional music. Every year on the month of May, Ennis hosts Fleadh Nua, an international celebration of Irish culture, and in November the Ennis Trad Festival is held. But traditional music of the highest quality is on display in the pubs of Ennis throughout the year. It often seems that those in town who can't sing or play an instrument are very much in the minority! Ennis is located near all the best attractions in the West of Ireland including the Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Galway, Limerick, Cork, the Blarney Stone, the beautiful beaches.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Also, we can arrange a rental car, activities or other lodgings around the country should you wish to explore more of Ireland! We also can accept all major credit cards. The heating, electricity and cleaning fees are all part of the rental cost - there are no hidden charges. After years of working in the travel industry, we feel it is important to not charge anything extra!
