About Heidi Gennaro

Meet Heidi---an ordinary woman with an extraordinary tale of working beside her (now late) husband, Paul, their master-carpenter friend, Randy, and Heidi's three children to build their dream log house in Vermont. Thrown into this project quite by the surprise of Providence, she realized in those four years of 'amateur family logging' on their 24 acres, sawing up the felled white Eastern pine on a portable sawmill, and finally building, that only by testing a dream can you know if you have been given both the faith, perseverance, and grit to complete that dream. Though Heidi lost her husband Paul in 2007 to heart disease, she endeavors to share this uniquely peaceful and beautiful home to weary travelers in search of respite and sanctuary from the demands of the world we live in. Enjoy and be at home in this magical place nestled in the calm beauty of Vermont!

Heidi Gennaro purchased this house in 2000

Why Heidi Gennaro chose Barnard

You will find peaceful seclusion here: a uniquely beautiful, green-built home nestled among 24.5 acres of sugar-maple laden forest, yet easy access to Vermont Rte. 12 just 1700 feet down the mountainside driveway. Tom hiking and horseback trails 3 miles south, and Hanover, NH and Dartmouth College 23 miles east. Northern Stage and the Lebanon Opera House are 22 miles east.

What makes this house unique

After over 400 guests and five years of vacation renting Heidi has heard nothing but 'Wow--better than the photos!' Comments left in Heidi's guest book and numerous 5-star posted reviews on two listing sites say it all. Heidi has accommodated many varied guests: families with children, couples wanting a romantic getaway, bridal parties, groups of eight '20-something' weekend skiers, and everyone in between, each group leaving behind rave reviews about the home, the setting, and the entire experience.

Autum in Vermont made better in a beautiful and warm log home.

  • 5 of 5

This home was so cozy and well fit for cooking, dinimg and relaxing, we almost had to force ourselves out to explore Vermont in full autum splendor. Our expectations were high and we were not disappointed. We could easily have spent another week or more. Would love to stay again in winter to ski and snowshoe.

Great getaway to a very personalized and comfortable home.

  • 5 of 5

This custom built, timber home is in a rural setting but close to all the sites and activities you will want to see and do. It even has it's own hiking trail and extremely close to the Appalachian Trail if you so desire. The owner is a real pleasure to work with and is in touch throughout the entire process.

The house has all you would need and more with surroundings that are unbelievably quiet and peaceful. We spent every morning and evening on the screened-in side porch although the weather was absolutely perfect for it (extra thanks Heidi). If you want to just getaway and enjoy the Vermont countryside in the Woodstock area while relaxing in a church-like quietness, this is it.

Lovely stay, would definitely come back again

  • 5 of 5

My family (husband, wife, 2 daughters) likes to travel but doesn't like to cram into hotel rooms, so we have done a lot of vacation rentals and also a number of home exchanges. This stay was more like staying in someone's home than like a rental -- the house is generously furnished with supplies in the kitchen, bathrooms, etc., so you really don't lack for anything. The home is lovely and the location is great, with lots to do in any season. Would definitely rent here again, and will recommend this house to my friends.

Beautiful vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

If you like the outdoors, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, this is a great place to go. Our family of 5 adults recently vacationed here. The home was clean, had a full kitchen with all the cooking utensils necessary to make all our meals, an adequate supply of bath towels, comfortable beds, and a large screened in porch in the back of the house. There is a large washer and dryer available, so you can pack light too!

The property has blazed walking trails for easy morning walks. We hiked several beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail, canoed and kayaked at Silver Lake state park, and baked bread at the King Arthur Baking school.

A friend recommended a book titled "Take the Plunge" (you can purchase this in the Woodstock book store) which outlines many remote, clean, water holes to swim. We hiked to one and had a wonderful afternoon swimming, and having a picnic lunch.

We spent our evenings playing board games, toasting marshmallows, star gazing and listening to the moose calls in the distance.

There is no TV here, (which we knew before hand) but there is wi-fi to get netflicks programs.

We chose to prepare most of our meals at the house, and enjoyed relaxing on the porch afterwards with a glass of wine and good conversations.

There are several markets in Woodstock to get fresh meats, produce and local products.

We had dinner out once, at the Worthy Kitchen, (after our day of baking breads), which did not impress us. They make you wait on a long line (45 minutes) to order your food, then you must find a table, (we had to clean our table before sitting down) and then the food took another 45 minutes for it to be served. 3 of us ordered burgers, and each of them were served differently, 2 had 2 patties, one was missing cheese, another missing tomato. The chicken was dry and tough. They serve locally crafted beers in small 10 once glasses and charge as if they are full pints. And, they poured it full of foam, so you basically get about 6-8 ounces of beer after the foam settles for $8. Our advice is to go to the Woodstock market, buy freshly ground local beef and grill it at the house.

This was a beautiful family vacation, and we all a wonderful time relaxing, unwinding and and enjoying each others company and the many outdoor activities available.
