All flooring random-width pine finished with natural oils. Bedrooms are spacious and include sitting areas. And yes, I have Wifi! Unique shopping and art galleries await you in quintessential Woodstock, only 5 miles away. Silver Lake State park with beachfront, kayak and paddleboat rentals, and playground area is 4 miles away. After a day at the beach, there's the famous Barnard General Store for deli/ice cream, Tozier's drive-up, or fine dining at the Barnard Inn and Max's Tavern. About Heidi Gennaro

Meet Heidi---an ordinary woman with an extraordinary tale of working beside her (now late) husband, Paul, their master-carpenter friend, Randy, and Heidi's three children to build their dream log house in Vermont. Thrown into this project quite by the surprise of Providence, she realized in those four years of 'amateur family logging' on their 24 acres, sawing up the felled white Eastern pine on a portable sawmill, and finally building, that only by testing a dream can you know if you have been given both the faith, perseverance, and grit to complete that dream. Though Heidi lost her husband Paul in 2007 to heart disease, she endeavors to share this uniquely peaceful and beautiful home to weary travelers in search of respite and sanctuary from the demands of the world we live in. Enjoy and be at home in this magical place nestled in the calm beauty of Vermont!

Heidi Gennaro purchased this house in 2000

Why Heidi Gennaro chose Vermont

You will find peaceful seclusion here: a uniquely beautiful, green-built home nestled among 24.5 acres of sugar-maple laden forest, yet easy access to Vermont Rte. 12 just 1700 feet down the mountainside driveway. Quintessential Woodstock is 5 miles south, Silver Lake and the Historic Barnard General Store 4 miles north, Mt. Tom hiking and horseback trails 3 miles south, and Hanover, NH and Dartmouth College 23 miles east. Northern Stage and the Lebanon Opera House are 22 miles east.

What makes this house unique

After over 400 guests and five years of vacation renting Heidi has heard nothing but 'Wow--better than the photos!' Comments left in Heidi's guest book and numerous 5-star posted reviews on two listing sites say it all. Heidi has accommodated many varied guests: families with children, couples wanting a romantic getaway, bridal parties, groups of eight '20-something' weekend skiers, and everyone in between, each group leaving behind rave reviews about the home, the setting, and the entire experience.

Notes:
This is a beautiful, two-story, center-hall colonial log home decorated in classic Williamsburg colors and built in 2000. It has gorgeous paneled wainscot/chair rail/wallpaper on the interior walls, classic 6 x 12 flat logs on the exterior walls, with wood beams and painted board ceilings. The screened-in back porch, 8 x 32 with six cushioned chairs, two cushioned love seats, a dining table and padded porch swing is worth gold during summer months, attached to the dining area with french doors. Washer and dryer in basement. Dogs considered, but let's discuss first. LONG-TERM RENTERS: Book early! A year in advance will give you the best availability. Willing to negotiate a fair rental price. COLD WEATHER GUESTS: The two main heat sources are THREE gas fireplaces on thermostat (dining room; two upstairs bdrms) glass-front woodstove (living room) requiring you to start/maintain a fire in winter. POND: Pond has a small sand beach for play/relaxation. SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Feels like home!

  • 5 of 5

Heidi left no detail undone. From the moment you pull up to this house you feel at home. The pictures don't do it justice! We had such a wonderful time being unplugged from the world that it really brought our family closer! Great house built with such character you can't help but to fall in love!

Immaculate property, great location, wonderful owner and easy to book/work with

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect with this stay. The owner, Heidi, was incredibly responsive and just a joy to interact with, I left some items in the kitchen and she priority mailed them back to me..the next day. The home was immaculately clean, modern and furnished well. A property built by hand with obvious love, care and professionalism, it has all the quaint Vermont touches: a wood stove, timber construction, but all the modern benefits of being clean (built in the 90s?), not drafty at all, fast wifi, etc. The "little things," Heidi also ensures are at your disposal that we're so accustomed to in modern city life, (like a modern gas-burning range), coffeemaker with filters, Wusthof knives, etc..... It's like you transported your own home to Vermont...except it's cleaner, bigger...nicer. It's also easy to get to if you're coming off I-89, 30 minutes from Killington and an hour to Sugarbush. Woodstock is a nice little village nearby, as well. One note for the couch-potato set, is no TV downstairs so don't be disappointed, but (1) you're in VT, this is a good thing, unplug read something and (2) there's fast wifi, so no trouble Netflixing on an iPad, etc.

Magical!

  • 5 of 5

Starry Hill is not your average "rental place". It is a beautiful, one of a kind house handcrafted with lots of TLC! The owner and her family built this house and no detail was overlooked, from the way it was built to its charming decor. Heidi was wonderful and made sure we were always ok. She is a delightful person to deal with. We enjoyed skiing just a few minutes away, eating at the local restaurants, going to the Woodstock Farmers market for some yummy pastries & local cheese, and walking around the quaint village of Woodstock. For us, Starry Hill was a magical place and we hope to return!

Stunning property, perfect location, attentive owner

  • 5 of 5

We visited Starry Hill as part of a 6 centre, 3 week tour of New England and whilst we stayed in some great properties, this quite simply was the unanimous first choice of all of our party of six friends. The property has been clearly built with love as well as wood, and is furnished to a very high standard, and has a really homely feeling. Set in a very peaceful and beautiful part of the world it was great to return to Starry Hill each evening and immediately relax, on the porch or indoors. We felt like honoured guests in Heidi's home, and we would like to thank you Heidi for your excellent attention to detail which made every aspect of our visit enjoyable.

We loved the pretty town of Woodstock which is a 10 minute drive away. We followed and appreciated Heidi's restaurant suggestions, Ruth's in Woodstock and Simon Pearce in Quechee, where we enjoyed delicious food.

We would love to return to this property at some point and would recommend it to anyone.

Leaf Peeping in Woodstock and Barnard

  • 5 of 5

Heidi' s home was perfect for our Fall adventure to Vermont. Large, beautifully decorated rooms, comfy beds, updated kitchen and a screened porch that we used each day for coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening. The house was well equipped and the rural setting was just what we were looking for. The backyard led to three well marked trails that we were able to navigate and enjoy. We hope to visit again!

Charming, warm, comfy house in a gorgeous setting

  • 5 of 5

Heidi had us at hello! Her kindness as evident even as we pulled up to the house after a long flight and drive to see the sparkling twinkle lights on the screened porch. Great for a family retreat and spectacular scenery. Brilliant starry skies as advertised.

Highly recommend this authentic Vermont home built and shared with love. Wished we could have stayed longer.

M

PS Our litmus test for rentals is the quality of the knives in the kitchen and Heidi's were excellent quality.
