About this property

La Hacienda

La Hacienda, Key West’s take on the classic Adobe house, offers Spanish hospitality which is apparent from the street view - stucco walls, red clay tile roof, arches, decorative ironworks, and colorful pots planted with foliage. The 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is on one of the most stylish streets in the Old Town Key West neighborhood. On its right is a private tropical sculpture garden ringed in a decorative wrought iron fence with off street parking for one vehicle. Inside, hard wood floors and high ceilings continue the uniqueness. Out back is a large, inviting private pool, deck, and spa. The location is remarkably close to everything delightful that you associate with the Southernmost Island. The Historic Seaport is only three streets over and world-famous Duval Street within four blocks.

Once inside, there’s a nice separation in floor plan: the living, dining, kitchen areas are on the left side of the house and the bedrooms on the right. Both sides have windows galore for daytime glimpses of the island’s ideal weather and the home’s professional landscaping. The living room is the perfect social or reading area with plenty of seating: couches (one a pullout queen bed), unique chairs, a bamboo coffee table, and end tables. All face each other conversation style. In one corner is a TV easily viewable from most of the seating. Everything has been selected to be comfortable with a decorator’s flair. Of course there’s A/C, cable, DVD, stereo, and wireless high-speed internet.

Next on the left is the dining area. The center of this area is a bamboo dining set with glass top and six cushioned chairs. Back to the left is a desk and chair centered under a three-paneled window that looks out onto lush green palm trees. The back wall of this space has a doorway that ushers into the kitchen.

Windows are a main theme in the kitchen as throughout the home. The kitchen features a 6 burner professional Viking Range. Open shelves display colorful dishes, cups, glasses, professional knives, and Calphalon pots. The counter is a rich warm wood and provides space for preparing a meal inside. Of course, there’s also the lovely option to BBQ outside on the pool deck. A cooks dream.

To the right side of the living area is the first of three delightful bedrooms, this front one with twin beds or set up as a king, plenty of windows, a generous closet, and a flat screen TV atop a chest of drawers. The center master bedroom has a queen bed, walk-in closet, dresser, TV, and en-suite full bath. The third, rear bedroom features a built-in full bed, dresser, option to hang clothes, and French doors out to the pool deck. The second full bathroom off the hall is shared by 2 of the bedrooms.

The back French doors to the outside oasis open from the kitchen which is convenient for moving food from the inside to the outside. The back area is ringed in landscaping creating privacy. The spacious rectangular pool and separate in-ground spa complete the sense of a backyard paradise you won’t soon forget. Grill some local fish or steaks on the outside BBQ then eat your meal alfresco at the nearby table under a red market umbrella. Take a swim in the heated pool or dip into the spa or just relax with a book in one of the chaise loungers. Maybe shower off under the open-air shower. Laundry facilities are behind closed doors here too.

When it’s time to explore your neighborhood and the rest of Key West, the Historic Seaport is only three streets over and Duval is four. Follow the boardwalk along the Gulf to find historic tall ships offering day and sunset cruises or take an all-day ferry excursion to the Dry Tortugas. If you’re interested in watersports, there’s all kinds like diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and jet skiing. If you get hungry, a dozen or so restaurants of varying levels of informality ring the harbor. Local musicians pop up along the way. Continue on to Mallory Square where crowds of visitors and locals alike gather to witness the sun sinking into the horizon. To follow tradition, be sure to applaud as the last edge of fiery orange disappears at the horizon. Then hang around for the party as artists and street performers entertain the crowd.

From Mallory Square, the famous Duval Street is within two blocks in case you’re interested in tours, museums, shopping, over two hundred restaurants, bars, and the Key West Aquarium or the Butterfly & Nature Conservatory. If beaches call to you, there are two within biking distance or take a car so you can bring picnic supplies. There are always plenty of cultural activities such as live music, art exhibitions, and plays. Perhaps catch a movie on one of the three screens at the Tropic Cinema. If you like beaches, one local’s favorite is Fort Zachery Taylor, where you can rent chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment. Bathrooms, showers, a snack bar, and picnic tables are also available. Or maybe you’ll decide to skip the beach to explore the adjacent Civil War-era fort, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973
