Overview

About the property

High Mountain Lodge with Room for 12 Guests! 3 Bedrooms and 2 Bathrooms!

NOT FOR THE INEXPERIENCED TRAVELER!

Eagle’s Nest Mountain Lodge is located roughly 45 minutes from the nearest grocery store and gas station, and requires a trip up a 4-mile jeep trail with up to 15% grades. What this property lacks in highway convenience, it makes up for in one-in-a-million views! While the cabin has cell service (Verizon), much of the access route does not have cell service. If the road is muddy from rain or snow, a 4WD/AWD vehicle is recommended. Low clearance vehicles are not recommended.

FANTASTIC PLACE FOR OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS!

The 3-Bedroom, 2-Bathroom Mountain Lodge is constructed of an all-log interior with a living room that opens to a spacious deck which faces the Absaroka Mountains. It also has a fully furnished kitchen, washer, dryer, fireplace, board games, satellite TV service, and wireless internet. There is also a 2-Bedroom, 1-Bathroom bunkhouse which is detached from the main Lodge. This property offers the best of both worlds; incredible peace and seclusion, and comfortable accommodations. You may see elk, deer, coyotes, bald eagles, moose, wolves, bears and other species that frequent the area. We recommend carrying bear spray with you AT ALL TIMES, and be sure to bring binoculars! We recommend bringing a large supply of food with you, and lots of warm clothes!

HISTORY!

This log cabin was built by Malcolm Forbes about 1970 as his get-away. Eagles Nest is on a mountain ridge at an altitude of 7900 feet. Its wrap-around deck and windows provide a million-dollar view overlooking a portion of Yellowstone Park, the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountain Range, the upper Yellowstone River, and Dome Mountain.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions, or concerns! We strive to be as accommodating as possible to our guests, and we know everything there is to know about Yellowstone and the surrounding area!

Mountain Cabin is Perfect Family Vacation Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We were a bit apprehensive when we booked this place due to the warnings about the road condition, but we rented an AWD SUV and decided to go for it. WOW, were we happy we did. This place was absolutely perfect for our family vacation. The views, the wildlife and the solitude were well worth trekking down and up everyday. Once you make it down the road, Gardiner is right there with access to anything you need and then right into the park. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed and Francis and Krista were super-responsive to any questions or requests during our stay. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer and explore the area close by. I would recommend this to anyone and will definitely look into staying here again when we come back to the area.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review, Lyla! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed your stay up at the Eagle's Nest! We always recommend an AWD vehicle, but the road has been fairly cooperative this year! I'm so glad that you had a great family vacation! We really appreciate the recommendation and we hope you come stay with us again soon! -Francis and Krista

Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

This is an excellent place to stay, away from it all and with great views, for a few days or maybe a week or two. The managers, Francis Regan and Krista, bent over backwards to be of assistance. Our family has been going to the area between Livingston and Gardiner for a few years now. Our mom has wanted to stay at that cabin ever since she first saw some pictures of it and the view. And a couple of us have wanted to hike the Electric Peak Trail for a while now, but something happens each time we get close. We thought this would do it for us! Our mom, who has had a stroke, decided that she couldn't make the trip, but encouraged a couple of us to go and bring back some great pictures. The weather didn't cooperate once we were there, however, as several storms were blowing through. Francis made sure he kept in touch with us as the road can be a concern if there is too much rain. Most of the time in the summer you can count on good weather in that area, but we had to head off the mountain early when one big storm started to roll in. Francis ensured that we had a comfortable place to stay for the night. Things don't always go as planned, and it was good to know that someone was looking out for us. It has now become kind of a family obsession, as well as a family joke, regarding the possibility of hiking at least part of Electric Peak Trail. We were able to get in a couple of short hikes and take some nice pictures. The cabin had everything we needed and then some. Thank you Francis and Krista for answering our questions, getting us booked into the cabin, and for all your help!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review, Velva! Eagle's Nest is an animal in itself...we are always happy to be of assistance! I'm glad you got to get in a few hikes before the storm rolled in, and I'm glad you made it down safely! We'll try our darnedest to get you back up there so you can really enjoy the serenity! You were a pleasure to work with and I hope we see you again soon!

Truly unbelievable place to stay and enjoy!!

  • 5 of 5

I will start this review with a disclaimer: In no way my words will do justice to describe just how beautiful the cabin and location are. We did a tour of National Parks from South Dakota, up through Wyoming and then then down through Colorado. Four of us stayed at the cabin for the 4 days we toured Yellowstone and the surrounding area. The directions for check-in and travel to the cabin were perfect. As other have commented the road to the cabin is not a highway, but off the beaten path. However, for those who have traveled in the mountains before, especially hunters/hikers, the road is not bad at all - but I do recommend not taking a basic passenger car up it. the cabin is exactly as described and shown in the photos, and really even better. The setting on the edge of the bluff overlooking the valley was breathtaking each time we saw it during our stay. The interior gorgeous with great furnishings. It has all the modern conveniences, which you might not expect when driving to it! We never saw another person or vehicle during our stay. Our biggest regret is that we did not plan a day or two to do nothing but enjoy the cabin. The main room with the fireplace is stunning. Our last night there was cold, windy and rainy so we took the opportunity to start a crackling fire in the rustic stone fireplace and talk about all we saw over the prior days and how much we hated to leave!

We did make time to hike up the peak behind the cabin and discovered it is actually the boundary to Yellowstone - basically right out the backdoor! We watched a sunrise from the peak and 20-30 elk in the meadows right below us grazing and even a couple of bulls were bugling. We took another hike further into the park on evening and were blessed with more amazing views and photo opportunities.

The services was great - and by that I mean the reservation process was easy, I received all information and was charged when I was told I would be, everything was where is was supposed to be, and I received an email thanking me for my stay and letting me know I was getting my deposit back. I did not have to try and arrange to meet with someone when I arrived or left, so did not have that limitation on our schedules. No one came to the cabin while we were there, but we were made aware that if we needed something to call the contact person. Perfect in my book.

We cannot wait to go back to the property. It has an amazing history and is the best vacation rental ever!

Trip of a lifetime

  • 5 of 5

We just had a family gathering after deciding on Yellowstone and looked a lot before choosing Eagles Nest. The location is off the beaten path but that is exactly what we wanted. We found it was well worth the slow but gorgeous drive up the mountain if you want seclusion, breathtaking views and hiking right out of your cabin. The cabin is well stocked and has a wonderful fireplace and comfy beds. We drove to the park two days and spent those days hiking and viewing the popular tourist sites. The other two days we had great hikes right from the cabin. The official park boundary is not far from the cabin and on one hike we went right into the park! The drive from the highway up to the cabin is slow with switchbacks, but easy to find with the detailed directions we received and the road was in surprisingly good condition. I would recommend this cabin without hesitation!

Excellent Place to Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I and six of our children stayed at this cabin for 10 days. Two of our adult sons drove our AWD van and our supplies in a uHaul trailer from our home in IL. They picked up another son in CO on the way. The rest of us flew and were picked up at the airport by our sons with our van. We weren't sure what to expect in terms of supplies at the cabin plus one son wanted to bring his motorcycle, hence the uHaul. Climbing the long road ("think" mostly private, one lane driveway winding up the mountain) up to the cabin with a Uhaul was quite an experience, so happy we arrived before dark!

We were pleasantly surprised to find the cabin wonderfully supplied with everthing one would need. Most the items we brought weren't necessary. They had deck chairs, games, laundry supplies, even books which I enjoyed reading!

The view from the deck is spectacular. I spent most my time sitting out there whether reading or enjoying a meal. At night I could see my son's motorcycle headlight winding it's way up the mountain. Internet connection was best out there as I kept my friends updated with awesome pictures.

The older sons enjoyed hiking up to Electric Peak from the cabin and are already hoping to return next summer to try it again. My younger kids, 17, 15, & 12 either went with them or short hikes on their own (with the cabin's bear spray of course).

We stayed 10 days. Traveling up & down the road was a bit more driving than my husband likes so we would only visit the park every other day & just relax at the cabin the off days. This worked out great because the seclusion and peacefulness is what we enjoyed.

I'm somewhat handicapped but found the accommodations very comfortable. I always worry how comfortable a bed will be but found the full size bed to be very comfortable. I also had my own private bathroom! I let my husband have the Queen bed and he shared a jack & jill bathroom with the younger kids. There were 4 twin beds (2 bunks) in their room and they were very comfortable as well. The 3 older sons shared the little log cabin just a stone's throw from the main cabin. It has 2 bedrooms with 2 twin beds each and a jack & jill bathroom. It is well stocked with bedding & towels. It's quite rustic however so if someone isn't used to roughing it (or spiders) they might want to stay in the main cabin.

The only wildlife we saw near the cabin was a deer and a bear cub running up the hill on one of our drives down.

Loved it and hope we can return one day!

First Class Lodge For Outfitters

  • 5 of 5

I just returned from our annual trip to Yellowstone Park; I own an outfitter company. Our group of anglers had the pleasure of staying at the Eagle's Nest Lodge right outside of Gardiner, Mt. The lodge was very well kept, the view was spectacular and the wildlife was abundant. After a long day fishing the lodge provided a welcome relaxation that included TV, movies, games and good conversation. The lodge had all the items that we expect from a first class lodge, laundry area, kitchen and outside deck. Also the price was very reasonable. I recommend Eagles Nest Lodge to anyone who is planning on visiting Yellowstone Park
