Great house for weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Mike is wonderful to work with. Check-in and check-out is simple and painless. The house is wonderful. The furniture and overall decor are a nice mix of contemporary, mid-century, and industrial chic.

There is a "No Shoe" policy, which is a big plus for us. It means that the interior hadn't been trampled by dirty shoes from the area's many wonderful hiking trail, and as such, we felt comfortable laying down on the lush living room carpet, which is a rarity for a couple of us who have OCD tendencies.

One thing to note, especially for city-slickers like those in our group, is that there are two water sources coming into the house; the one coming in via the kitchen sink is potable, the other coming in to all other fixtures is not (well water containing sulfur?). The latter has a very strong smell and feels slimy, especially when using soap. It took some getting used to but in spite of our initial reaction, we felt refreshed and clean just the same after a shower. Perhaps the sulfuric water has health benefits for the skin. This is not a knock against the house, as it was noted in the description, the welcome binder and labeled in the kitchen. Rather, it's more a FYI to urbanites who have only known of water that is piped in from treated reservoirs. Judging from many wells that we saw on our morning jogs in the area, this is probably pretty prevalent in all the houses in the area.

To sum up, everyone in our group had a lovely time in a lovely house on a really nice summer weekend in Hudson Valley. Thanks Mike!

Owner's Response: When we purchased this place 15 years ago, coming up from NYC, we had no idea about how surrounding people dealt with water. I thought just turning a water faucet on would solve all water supply. Our mountain valley area has pockets of different contents in the underground water supply; such as sulfur & clay. As you experienced, water is very silky & soft (good for skins) -unlike NYC's hard water. Sulfur is an important ingredient to hot spring spa! So it was like having a mini spa! Water contents vary slightly from season to season. And we have an extensive water treatment system in place for a common use (shower, toilet); once finished, additional system for drinking water is used. Thanks for staying at our place & helpful input! Mike

A beautiful and spacious house!!

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful, spacious, modern, and perfect for large groups or families. My family rented the house for my wedding at Audrey's Farmhouse (across the street) and the close proximity was easy and super convenient. The pictures really don't do the house justice, it's got very high ceilings, tons of natural, a really cool decorative aesthetic, and not to mention a beautiful view. The location of the house is ideal as it's close to the Mohonk Preserve, on a quiet country road, and central to both Newburgh and New Paltz.

I would highly recommend this house for any and all occasions, my family loved staying here and we had a great time with no complaints.

adequate

  • 3 of 5

The pictures need to be updated. When we showed up, there was major construction happening to the property below this one. Back hoe's, Bulldozers and a fleet of dump trucks churned out loads of dirt for hours Friday and Saturday. We had a wonderful view from the deck of a major construction site, not a tranquil log home in the wilderness. The house was clean and as the pictures show it for the most part. All and all it was O.K. wish we were informed of the construction taking place prior to our trip. The owner was very responsive with questions being answered promptly, and to his defense, he probably did not know of the construction.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the important message. I was not aware of how rapidly the ground leveling work was moving forward with the next door property. It has been in an untouched state for the last 10 years. Yesterday, I met the owner of the project about the situation. Once the grading work is done in 2-3 weeks, it should quiet down significantly. Going forward, on Saturdays, the owner & I will monitor the site so that it will minimize any distraction. I am so sorry that you had be the one to find out about it & certainly all future renters will be notified prior to their coming. Let me offer a credit amount where you can use for any future rentals.

Cozy and spacious home for the weekend

  • 4 of 5

The owner was very friendly and responsive. Easy checkin. 9 of us stayed here comfortably. The yard is a big open space with a pond. Ample parking. The home is spacious, cozy, very clean, in a very quiet location. Grill and full kitchen set. 4 stars rather than 5 because the house was missing basic condiments (salt, pepper, etc.), shampoo/soap.

Owner's Response: Hi, Paul- I appreciate your feedback! Actually, basic salt & pepper condiments were suppose to be inside the kitchen cabinet. So sorry about not finding them. I will double check it. However, in the past, because individuals prefer to use their favorite brand of shampoo & soap (personal or medical reason), these personal toiletry items were always brought by the guests. Perhaps we will need to provide the most basic shampoo & soap going forward; as a backup to those who does not have any preference. We did have liquid soap bottles placed in the kitchen & 3 bathrooms throughout the house. Let us review your comment again with the house cleaning personnel & look to improve for future guests experience. Sincerely, Mike

Great Home in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

This modern log home is just the right combination of rustic with contemporary details surrounded by a beautiful setting. All the bedrooms were spacious and the open floor plan was great for our large group. And watching the ducks in the pond during breakfast in the morning was the perfect way to start the day!

The owner was also super helpful throughout the booking process and even sent an extensive guide to the area, that proved to be very helpful throughout the time that I stayed in the space.

I would highly recommend staying at this space - for a weekend away from the city, it's the perfect respite for a few days to get some fresh air.
