Welcome to Yunque Brisas. We are located on a beautiful 600 foot hill less than a mile from the beach. We overlook the magnificent Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort and have a 180 degree view from ocean to rain forest with St. Thomas in the distance. So many activities, shopping and restaurants are located within ten minutes. We are on nine and half acres and have lots of beautiful flowers, views, and an organic orchard and garden.
The trade wind breezes come right up our hill from the ocean traveling to the rain forest. Our very unique architectural villa has been here since 1982 and utilizes these magnificent trade winds so that air conditioning is not needed. Experience paradise like it was meant to be here at Yunque Brisas.
We are also a bed and breakfast. You may choose a special morning we make you a special breakfast ie. Eggs Benedict, Crepes, Creme Brulee French Toast, or a Veggie Omelette from our organic garden. All other mornings we supply a choice of continental, hot or cold cereal, or a smoothie breakfast. Buen Provecho!

My father came to Puerto Rico in the early 50's via the F.A.A.. While sitting on the beach at Playa Azul in Luquillo he looked up at this hill and said to my mother, "that would be a beautiful place to put a home." After a couple flyovers and some research from friends, my mother and father purchased our land and started building a dream home. This is where I grew up till I was eight and then moved to Florida with my mother. While growing up I always came back to this little paradise every summer. During the summers my father and I would cook every day something new for each meal for 90 days. We were not gourmets, or gourmands, but very proud gluttons. Somewhere between my father teaching me how to chef and my mother working in the hotel industry, I dabbled at it as well for about 25 years. I worked for different hotel chains, family restaurants and had a few restaurants of my own. I played bartender, server, chef and manager trekking around the country. Now I am back to my little paradise. I love to provide friends with a great experience when they are here and I love to share all the great food from the property. Hope you can spare the time to come and visit and share a story.

Why Owner chose Zarzal
I did not purchase this vacation home, I turned it into one. It just seemed a waste if more people did not experience this little paradise.
What makes this Villa unique
There are so many unique aspects of this beautiful property. The birds provide a chorus melody at sunrise. Occasionally a flock of parakeets will fly tree to tree greeting you as you wake. The mornings are calm till the 9am breeze blusters up. On a clear day you can see St. Thomas in the east, and a very clear day you can see St. Johns and Tortola. Out to the north the ocean is many shades of blue and green in and around the reefs off the points and beaches. Clouds start building up and climbing toward the rain forest. A red tailed hawk will let out a squeal as he soars the mountain overhead. More birds make their way though the property greeting you as they go. In the afternoon a shower may get pushed over from the rain forest and the sound on the roof will put you to sleep. The late afternoon brings a beautiful sunset color to the town of Luquillo and its beaches. Egrets start flocking up to the mountain and just before dark the bats come out to dazzle you with their aerial ballet. Of course, then the coquis start to serenade you while the stars come out and dazzle you. Special evenings, which we keep a sharp eye out for, is when the full moon rises out of the ocean. The best though is when friends come and visit and experience these wonders with us.

This a great getaway for someone looking to experience a Puerto Rico vacation. For someone who wants to understand the culture and cuisine and take in the sights and sounds of nature. The villa really allows you to experience the foothills of the rainforest and comfortably enjoy the frogs and birds. It is wonderfully designed to incorporate outside and inside living. You get to hear the sounds of nature while enjoying the comfort of the indoors. The property is beautiful. Great vegetation and beautiful views of both the ocean and rainforest. Brad is knowledgeable and really goes over and beyond to make the experience incredible. His breakfast are 5* and the perfect start to the day. Make sure to pick his brain because he knows all of the good spots on the island. Don't miss this chance.
Thank you Trey and Katie for such a wonderful review. We really enjoyed hosting you. It was a real pleasure meeting you and talking with you each morning. Wish you could have stayed longer. Hope to see you again soon.

Cute villa and excellent hosts
This villa was perfect for a getaway. It's secluded from other people yet is just minutes from town and the rainforest. The hosts were wonderful and very welcoming. They even cook you breakfast!! Brad went above and beyond telling us local spots to go as well as multiple things to do. The house is very openly laid out so you feel close to nature and get to sleep listening to the sounds of the frogs and birds and there's always a nice breeze coming through. It was very relaxing and I'm glad we stayed here!!
Thank you guys so much for such a great review. It was such a pleasure taking care of you guys and talking with you in the morning. I'm so appreciative that you made our place the first place to come over seas. Kellie
and I look forward to your next day with us.
A perfect getaway on the Island of Enchantment
I'll just run you through a typical day at Yunque Brisas Villa. You wake up in the morning to the sound of tree frogs and exotic birds chirping in the distance, stepping out onto the patio you overlook the Caribbean, with Luquillo Beach in the distance, to your right, you see El Yunque National park. Brad greets you with fresh squeezed fruit juice, and a variety of tropical fruits to eat, after that appetizer he brings you a more traditional meal of your choosing. I suggest the eggs benedict, his lemon hollandaise is delightful! While you are eating breakfast, he helps you to plan your day, telling you things to avoid, and things you MUST do. Starting the morning off like this puts you into ease, as you have great advice that keeps you in the know, without worry.
After the morning, we explored the various parts of the island surrounding us, from the Rainforest, to La Selva and Luquillo beach, to San Juan and Arecibo. After which we would come back, rinse off in the outdoor shower, and listen to the sounds of the jungle before falling asleep.
A few things to know: You will need a rental car, an adventurous spirit, and a willingness to unwind if you stay here. Brad is an amazing person and when we go back to PR we would not hesitate to stay with him again.

P.S. Good luck with the future of the property, we can't wait to hear how things are coming along!
Don't stay here
My husband and I were very excited to return to Puerto Rico after our last trip there two years ago. We wanted to visit a new part of the island so we chose to be close to the rainforest and ferry to go to culebra. I found what seemed to be the perfect place, based on high reviews and photos. Brad was cleaning the house when we arrived. So we went and had dinner and came back. Brad was very pleasant and hospitable. He had great suggestions for our excursions everyday. We text him several times with prompt responses to our questions. However, my husband and I were very disappointed in the villa. It was not clean, lizards, roaches, frogs and bugs camped out with us day and night. The original screens were on the Windows. The screens had large holes for any bugs to come in. The bedroom had a huge hole in the bottom of the screen, allowing things to come inside. The bathroom that was suppose to be screened in, to give one an outdoor experience while taking a shower, was not screened in. The back and side screens had fallen off because the wood had rotted. We had to keep the bathroom door shut when we came and went. I never unpacked my bags. We kept everything zipped up. We asked Brad if he could give us some spray for the roaches but he said he put borax down and that was all he could do. He got his surf board and left. We managed to stay two nights, hoping to get used to it but once we saw the roaches we knew we needed to leave. We packed up and said our goodbyes. Also, there is no garden anymore, it is weeds. The mangos supposedly were stolen by someone. The breakfasts were not what was described in the reviews. Internet signal was there but poor. We loved our day excursions. I highly recommend zip lining in the rainforest and costing the waterfalls. We never made it to Culebra since we left early and went to Isabella on the other side of the island, best decision we made.
Wow, was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this review. Wow in the sense, how did this happen when all the communication every day was great, fantastic, what a great time we are having. Mary Helen and Roger told me about the roach issue and I replied immediately. I explained to both Mary Helen and Roger that the way we take care of these things is prevention with boric acid, but no pesticides. We do not have an infestation. But, the glass sliding doors were open for a couple days, stuff flies in and out. This is the tropics near a rain forest. We also have lizards geckos and coquis coming and going when the doors are open by the guests for two days. This is one of the things my guests love about this open architecture. We in fact have a famous coqui that has been in the bathroom for more than fours months. One of my previous guests named him Stewie. I am not going to spray pesticides and kill Stewie and my other friends on an organic farm. So, yes if you don't want to experience natural living PLEASE DON'T COME HERE!!!
I feel sorry for Mary Helen and Roger that they where this unhappy. If they would have only said something to me, I could have found them a hotel near by where nature is not so close. I am very sorry also, that they thought I just took off surfing and didn't care. I had to deliver the surfboard and was late leaving because I spent over an hour with them helping them for the days excursion. I am still in shock from this review and the one star because I talked with Mary Helen several times on the phone, texting and emailing, I arranged their trips and excursions, linked them to the best restaurants, arranged two masseuse, and had champagne on the house with their anniversary date, twelve text messages alone for the masseuse. This I do lovingly for all my guests. But, I am human, one star hurts when you try so hard to please people and this happens. I called Mary Helen and Roger 3 times to try to get a reason behind this and they never answered or returned the messages. I don't need to explain any more. If your like all my guests before for five years and since that love living with nature, I will do my best that you have the greatest experience in Puerto Rico and the neighboring islands. If you are uncomfortable with nature listen to Mary Helen and Roger...DONT COME HERE!!
Isn't there a review grade ABOVE "excellent"? If so, that's what Yunque Brisas gets from us!
My husband & I celebrated our 25th anniversary here & just got home last night. RUN, don't walk, to book your stay here if you want a personalized, tasty, scenic, marvelous stay in lovely northeast Puerto Rico. Brad's home is the ideal base for any adventure you desire. 1st, all about Brad - having him as our personal host ramped up our fantastic experience in PR. From the moment we arrived, he was un-intrusively on hand ( via in person, by text, phone, email) to give us insider tips, exacting directions, gift shop recommendations of locally made goods, stories about the island and his family and his journey to his present position as host extraordinaire of Yunque Brisas. On top of all that, the included breakfast fare ( and reasonably priced add ons for breakfast & dinner) were beyond delicious - they were exquisite, all freshly prepared with on site fruits and delivered at your choice of time. We enjoyed our morning planning chats with Brad so much that we invited him to join us for dinner the night he prepared a local fish for me ( cola rubia baked in banana peels with ginger & lime) and green chicken curry for Henry. He even gifted us with a bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary! Gals, if you are looking for an amiable, charming, kind, good looking guy who can cook, Brad's your man! Yunque Brisas location was perfect for us as we enjoyed snorkeling, viewing the luminescent biobay, lazing on the gorgeous beaches, playing blackjack at the casino ( 5 mins away) , taking an overnight trip to Culebra ( DON'T miss it - GO!), visiting Arecibo, the Rio Cumay caves and Old San Juan. The guesthouse is rustic but very comfortable. Views straight out to the ocean. The bed was very comfy and the indoor/outdoor bathroom ( built around a HUGE boulder) is a treat. The coqui frogs will chirp you to sleep, in fact, one took up residence ( we were told a prior guest dubbed him "Stewey" ) & enjoyed spending his days perched atop a piece of artwork in the bathroom! There are birds all around, tiny lizards scurrying to & fro & virtually no mosquitos. ( although netting is provided, very romantic) The skies are very clear at night & to see the full moon rise over the ocean, then shine through the slatted windows onto the bed was just heavenly. YB is about 35 minutes from the airport & close to everything. The farthest west we travelled was to Arecibo & that was about 2 hours. All in all, it was the best choice for our anniversary. Brad, you're the BOMB!
Wow, I am blushing from such a glowing review. This is why I love doing this business. I get to meet, entertain, host and help the greatest people on the planet. I really hope I don't have to wait another 25 years to host you two beautiful people. Thanks again Pat and Henry. It was a shear pleasure hosting you!
The Perfect Honeymoon Retreat
Words can not adequately describe how much my husband and I loved staying at Yunque Brisas while honeymooning in Puerto Rico. We were looking for a relaxing, low-key, authentic Puerto Rican experience and found that and more here! Brad was incredibly helpful and definitely enhanced our stay on the island. From letting us in on the best hiking, hidden waterfalls, where to go and not to go all around the island to the AMAZING breakfasts he prepared every morning and information on local foods to try - everything was perfect!! Thank You for the wonderful experience and the kindness you showed us as guests. I doubt we will ever be able to find another retreat to compare to our time in Yunque Brisas! Thank You!!
We are located in one of the best areas of Puerto Rico. If you are interested in nature and activities, we have it all.
