About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Stoney Bay Beach House is a one bedroom, one bath masonry house with a 60 foot long covered gallery, located in privateer bay estates nestled on it's own private beach. The house is close to the ocean and facing directly east taking advantage of the trade winds to keep the house nice and cool, and is one of the least" buggiest" locations on St John. The house is the only one in Stony Bay, part of Privateer Bay, so the only neighbors you will be able to see will be on the BVI,s!

You will have no noise from cars, trucks, construction, dogs, roosters or people from this incredible location.

The living room/dining room has beautiful soaring 18' cypress ceilings, with comfortable upscale furniture. You can enjoy watching the sunrise over Norman Island (aka Treasure Island) and the Caribbean sea from the comfort of your pillow top bed. The gallery is very close to the water and has a hammock , lounge chairs, Adirondack chairs and a table with 4 chairs for outdoor dining. The kitchen has all the amenities including a dishwasher and front loading washer and dryer. There is a coral reef right in front of the house to Privateer Bay for endless underwater exploring.

If privacy, seclusion and nature are what your looking for this location is like no other.

Peaceful...Private...Paradise...

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at this house, had one look around, and both agreed we had officially found heaven.

We chose to stay here by the photos and the reviews and we were NOT disappointed. The house is located at the far eastern end of the island, about 12 miles from town (Cruz Bay) where the ferry docks.

We decided that staying in such a remote location would be a nice change of pace from our normally busy lives.

This was our very first visit to St. John and getting to the house was an awesome adventure. First with driving on the left, up and down steep and narrow roads with gorgeous views, watching out for wandering donkeys, and finally navigating the very very steep driveway down to the house - what a grand finale it was! (you will need to rent a Jeep) Bob provided us with perfect directions, and even included photos of the places we needed to make turns. Much appreciated!

If you are looking for a private and beautiful place to unwind, look no further. This house is perfectly perched on the side of a hill, very close to the water with no neighbors, other than goats, hummingbirds, and hermit crabs. The closest restaurants, shopping, and markets are 4 miles away in Coral Bay. We loved this quiet end of the island so much that we only visited Cruz Bay once during our 8 days here, and all of the locals were friendly. The rest of the time was spent hiking, snorkeling, fishing, relaxing, and taking our time to follow the day to wherever it took us (usually to one of the areas stunning beaches). In fact, we spent two full days right here at the house. We passed the day away sipping coffee, snorkeling, beach combing, fishing, floating, grilling, and having our favorite afternoon libations, and enjoying the nightime sky before turning in to the sounds of the waves and beach rocks outside our window.

In addition to being awed by mother natures gifts of sunrises, lightning storms, spectacular moon lighting, and vast ocean views, Bob has thought of everything his guests might need to enjoy this place; things like snorkel gear, a cooler, beach chairs, floaties, a gas grill, and a well-stocked kitchen for preparing meals and drinks.

Our stay here was just perfect for us, and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for peace, quiet, beauty, adventure, and an easy and accommodating owner to work with. Thank you Bob!

Little piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Let's just say it was very difficult to leave this perfect little villa and come back to bitter cold Michigan. This is our second visit to Stoney Bay and we are already looking forward to our third visit! Everything about this place is spectacular, the location, the sunrise, the villa itself. Bob, you have yourself a gem, and we are so thankful that you share it. Until next year.....

Uniquely spectacular location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Stoney Bay Beach House for two weeks in January 2016. Prior to renting Stoney Bay Beach House, we had rented numerous properties through VRBO (both nationally and internationally) and had never been disappointed. All properties met our expectations. This VRBO property was different. Stoney Bay Beach House far exceeded our expectations. The owner’s description of the property is modest. Rather than saying the house is close to the ocean, I’d say it’s on the ocean. And rather than saying the location is incredible, I would say it is uniquely spectacular. You need to see a picture of the property from the water to get a sense of the magnificence of the setting. You’re at the base of a long, steep, densely wooded hillside, -all by yourself. You have your own private beach with easy access to immediate snorkeling as well as snorkeling around the very large and beautiful Privateer Bay (we had excellent water conditions during our stay). The house is lovely and the views are just as described and photographed. We actually spent quite a bit of time at the house, enjoying the bbq in the evenings. (…I can’t remember the last time we cooked dinners on vacation.) Because of the immediate availability of snorkeling right out front, we did not venture off by car to other snorkeling locations. However, we did make the Lap of St. John trip with Busy Bee charters twice, getting to see the island and 8 other beautiful snorkeling sites, -sites inaccessible by land. Coral Bay is beautiful, immediately accessible, and affords all one needs, -grocery shopping, restaurants, and Busy Bee Charters (-an absolute must do).

Bob, thank you so much for the opportunity to rent your home. We had the best of St. John. And we will be back.

We didn't want to leave Stony Bay Beach House!

  • 5 of 5

Stony Bay is not easy to find and it’s not easy to leave because it is such a great place to relax and recharge. We found this house to be well kept, clean, and a perfect place for 10 days of relaxation. If you want peace and solitude with great views look no further. It is nicely furnished, has an adequately equipped kitchen for the majority of cooking needs and a comfortable bed with unbelievable sunrises! We cooked all of our evening meals at Stony Bay. The wrap-around porch offers great views and sun protection with very nice new furniture. The owner has also provided outdoor gas grill, cooler, and beach chairs. The bedroom has an air-conditioning unit if it gets a little humid as well as ceiling fan. The great room has two comfortable couches and a large dining table with vaulted ceiling and two ceiling fans. If you want a place to relax this is a great place. If you need to stay connected there is a TV with cable and wireless internet.

Stony Bay’s remote location is alluring and ads to the charm. There is a lot to do on St. John with the National Park; fantastic beaches, and wonderful hiking trails. There is a water sports center at Cinnamon Bay that rents, kayaks, SUP’s and Hobie Cats. St. John abounds in recreational opportunity, but we had to admit that Stony Bay is difficult to leave. When we are on vacation, one of us usually needs to have an agenda to make certain we get the most out of our time. But at Stony Bay we actually said, “Let’s just not go anywhere today” and it was great to stay put!

It should be noted that the road to get to the house first goes up and then goes down with a couple of switchbacks. That final descent into paradise offers thrills each and every time! We rented a AWD Jimmy and you will need all four wheels engaged to get back up. We arrived in the evening and we would have never found it at night without the help of the property managers. We appreciate their help and they had a lot of great suggestions for things to do on the island. They also checked in with us throughout the week to make certain all was ok.

We know the one thing about Stony Bay is that it is difficult to leave. There is so much beauty on St. John, and so much peace and relaxation at Stony Bay Beach House!

Wonderful vacation in a beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

The three of us stayed at Stoney Bay Beach House for a week in the middle of November and wish we could have stayed for the rest of the winter. The house is in an incredibly beautiful location with a private view out across its own bay and on to the other islands. The porch, which faces Privateer Bay, was so fabulous that we often had trouble leaving to go other places. The rest of the house has wrap around windows with the same fabulous view. After bringing in take-out or cooking your own dinner, you can sit at Bob's lovely dining room table and take in the sweep of the whole thing. The whole house is very comfortable with a large great room, which has a nice pull out sofa bed, as well as another sofa, and just the right amount of electronics and connectivity for the modern world. The bedroom is very nice. Both the kitchen and the bathroom are large and nicely done. All the appliances are very nice.

There's always a welcome breeze. (I think it's the trade winds.) There aren't very many bugs. The donkeys and goats occasionally come to visit. Pelicans fly by. We saw humming birds. On calm days, Privateer Bay, just a twenty or thirty foot walk down from the house, is great for snorkeling.

The drive out from Coral Bay to the East End and then down to Stoney Bay Beach House is really fun. (Book your four-wheel drive, two-door Jeep or Jimny early.) We really liked Coral Bay and every beach that we went to on the rest of the island, but those would be different reviews. It's easy to go everywhere you want to go from Bob's house.

And finally, Bob Mosely was incredibly helpful and understanding, and the Melnicks, the property managers, were very nice.

It couldn't have been a more wonderful vacation.

Perfect Rental!!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying here 10 days in early June. We've only ever rented one other home on the island and this far exceeded that for the same price.Very clean and comfortable.Very very private like you have that part of the island all to yourself. We did not get to swim in the beach out front (a little too rough for us) but great for beach combing and tanning. Driveways a little nuts at first but becomes no problem. The bed was also very comfortable and loved that there was a.c.In the bedroom couches in the living room were also great for a movie at night. Bob and Betsy the manager were very welcoming and understanding when we missed our flight on the way there and had to stay in st.Thomas for a night. So all in all it's a great rental and we'll definitely be coming back!!!!!
