About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

Between the Beaches of Grootpan Bay and Kiddle Bay lies Mango Villa. Nestled into the hillside overlooking a large saltpond and Grootpan Bay, this villa borders the USVI National Park. Only a 10-minute drive from lively Coral Bay, the only sounds at Mango Villa are birdsong and crashing surf.

Mango Villa is a 3 BR/2 BA single-story private home; there are no shared facilities. It offers flat parking and easy access, and is fully equipped with everything you will need for a relaxed island holiday.

You will be a short distance from Concordia Eco Lodge and Restaurant, VIERS, and the popular beaches at Salt Pond and Lameshur. This is truly St. John Off The Beaten Track.

Inside, the kitchen and Great Room feature vaulted ceilings with exposed Mahogany beams and a 10ft Mahogany breakfast bar. The kitchen is fully equipped.

The Master Suite, with private bath, is separate from the rest of the house and has a queen bed plus a single bed. Each of the bedrooms has a queen bed and sliding doors onto the deck with a view of Grootpan Bay.

PLEASE NOTE: Please visit betweenthebeaches.net for more photos and more information about the island.

About Brianna Tallian

We are 3 professional women living in the Midwest, who have been coming to St. John for years. We finally decided that life is short, and it was time to have a place for ourselves and our families to escape the northern winters. We hope it will give you the same pleasure that it gives us.

Brianna Tallian purchased this house in 2013

Why Brianna Tallian chose Coral Bay

This is not the resort Caribbean. This is a private spot at the end of the road. This is peace and quiet on our favorite island.

Excellent location for views, adventure and quiet

  • 5 of 5

This was my third stay at Mango Villa and it never disappoints. If you're an adventurer looking for beach views and a quiet place off the beaten path then this home is for you. There are 2 beaches within a 5 minute walk and a third that is a 15/20 minute walk. Great snorkeling at all three. This trip I saw several sea turtles, barracuda, a shark, conch shells and tons of reef fish between Kiddle and Groutpan bays. Chances are you'll be the only one on those two beaches. For more snorkeling and further off the beaten path is Big Lameshur, a short drive from the house. Great restaurants within 15 minutes. My faves are Aqua Bistro, Shipwreck and Indigo. Although, you can't beat the beach side patio at Miss Lucy's. The house is very comfortable, with a well stocked kitchen and plenty of room. Can't beat the expansive deck with views of two bays. It's great for late night cocktails and cards/board games. The owners are kind enough to leave out a cooler for use at the beaches. I will definitely be back.

We enjoyed our stay at Mango Villa. They provide almost everything that you could possibly need, and the location is awesome if you like "off the beaten path." It was nice to be away from the crowds. We enjoyed our stay!

A quiet private gem!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Mango Villa. If you like privacy, quiet and the opportunity to snorkel in two different bays this is the place for you. We were always the only ones snorkeling in Kiddle/Grootpan bays. Many of the other beaches in St John can be quite crowded at times. The long deck with the lovely view of the bays is fantastic. We especially enjoyed having the ceiling fan on the deck. Brianna was responsive and accommodating and so supportive. The place was clean, homey, and well stocked. It is even nicer than the pictures. We were here for work (research) and I can't wait to come back for vacation.

Owner's Response: Sarah … Thank you for that very nice review. We are always glad that our guests feel welcome and had a good time. And we are always happy to have VIERS people… you are always particularly in tune with St John. Look forward to having you back.

Amazing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Mango Villa for 2 weeks for my husband, myself, our 20-year-old son and an 18-year-old friend of his. It was perfect.

The Villa was well appointed with enough room and amenities for all. I appreciated the "goody bag" drawer in the living room filled with things we might have forgotten like first aid supplies, etc. I loved the balcony and wish we hadn't been there during the buggy season, so we could have used it more often at night (we were there just after the first big rains in the rainy season, so the bugs were out in force. We were told this only happens for about 2 weeks per year. Lucky us!).

The location was perfect as my husband and I appreciate seclusion and quiet. The boys weren't as thrilled, but were happy to find out that the bus ran straight to Cruz Bay and they could party there in the evenings (hitchhiking is apparently prevalent on the island, as well, so they took advantage of that).

We loved the beaches on this side of the island, but the bugs were bad (see above), so we were happy to find that the prevailing winds kept them at bay on the opposite side of the island, so we spent a lot of time there the second week.

We purchased food and supplies in Cruz Bay, but were happy to find out that the prices at Dolphin Market were the same in Coral Bay as in Cruz Bay.

We had planned to go hiking more than we did, but were just so happy to be relaxing that it didn't happen, but this would be a great base from which to plan hiking excursions. We enjoyed watching the hermit crabs tremendously. If you don't turn on the lights in the evening and you are walking from the kitchen to the master bedroom, you need to watch out for hermit crabs underfoot. (It survived.)

We left a lot of recommendations in the book on site, so be sure to read that thoroughly once you arrive. Perhaps while drinking a cold cocktail on the balcony watching the sun go down!

The owners are wonderful and great to work with.

Stay here! You will remember it forever!!!

Owner's Response: Thank You! for your kind review. Yes, we are on the quiet side, and the late-teens boys might have more fun in Cruz Bay at night. The bus is a good idea! Sorry about the bugs ….. It is an island, it is a jungle, and the bugs will come with the rains, whenever that happens. Notably, they are most prevalent in early morning and again at the dusk/early evening times. During the day, not so much. We use citronella and bug spray as needed. And they are pretty well everywhere across the island. We were told that the land crabs must have had a convention this January. They were all over the place, and we have barely seen them since. Glad you had a good time.

Amazing Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to experience St. John Island outside the normal tourist areas, a stay at Mango Villa is perfect for you. A lovely home tucked away near Grootpan Bay with ample space for groups or families and anything you need, including kitchen utensils, games and snorkeling gear, the Villa is within short distances of several beautiful beaches and amazing snorkeling spots. The large back deck, with access from each different room, is an excellent spot to watch the sun slip behind the ocean horizon and enjoy a few evening cocktails. The Villa is also near several local eateries that are must-visits: including The Tourist Trap, Skinny Legs, Indigo, and Aqua Bistro. The owners do a tremendous job preparing you for your visit, providing useful information about the trip and anything you may need. We would absolutely recommend a stay at Mango Villa to anybody interested and hope to return in the near future.
