This historic and charming farmhouse is surrounded by nearly an acre of gardens. Located in the picturesque village of Lakeside, Michigan in the heart of Harbor Country. Less than a 90 minute drive from Chicago. A five minute walk to Lake Michigan's beautiful Pier Street Beach and renowned antique stores and markets.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Lakeside Cottage! Bill was a terrific host, and the house was clean, cozy, and charming. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for ourselves all weekend, and there was a great combination of indoor and outdoor spaces to hang out. We usually travel with our 4 kids, and the space would have been big enough for all 6 of us, but it was very nice to have room to spread out for just the two of us! We used two of the bikes available with the property, which were in good condition and a very nice way to spend a warm fall afternoon. We enjoyed walking to the beach, exploring the many nearby natural areas. The fall colors were in peak form, and we were glad to be in Lakeside, which is a little more secluded and quiet than the nearby beach towns. We had a great stay and will look to stay here again when we're next back in SW Michigan.

Loved the house! It’s a charming cottage. Everything as described. Spent the week (3 girlfriends) and the house worked perfectly for us. Wonderful screen porch. Beds and linens were very comfortable. We are familiar with the area and the location is convenient to everything in the area. (There is an adjacent train track so you need to be ready for the train noise a couple of times a day). Cooked at home a lot and loved having the eat in Kitchen as well as dining room.

Long Weekend Getaway

Really enjoyed the cottage. Very comfortable beds and a wonderful front porch for morning coffee and evening cocktails. The owner has a lot of amenities including bikes in the shed that my daughter and her friend loved being able to use and a fun inter tube we took down to the beach!

This is an unusual property. The kitchen is the first room you enter, followed by the dining room, then the living room. It's all straight back. The three bedrooms are all on one side. The whole house is one floor. The sq. footage would make it seem small, but the house is quite functional. TV works without any trouble, there is plenty of bedding and the garden area is stunning. Lots of tiny villages around for driving, shopping, and dining. Property manager was very easy to work with. It worked out very well for the four of us.

Nice Property, Great Proximity

We stayed four nights with our small dog and used this place as a home base. Everything was as described. This place is rustic, so there are cobwebs, the outside areas are weathered, etc… The house is located near an active train track, which can sometimes be noisy. Neighbors were nice and quiet. The outdoor area was perfect for our dog. The host was very nice and responded quickly to questions.

Relaxing and Lovely

My partner and I enjoyed a lovely, restorative stay at the Lakeview cottage! The kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms are well appointed and the porch and garden/yard are perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning or s'mores at night by the fire pit. The summer cottage was a great touch and so cozy. Ample books to borrow and read during the stay too! The property is a short walk to Pier Beach through a charming neighborhood and is easy to get to all the shops and restaurants off the main road. We felt fully recharged and at peace during our stay and would absolutely book again!

Relaxing in Lakeside

We had a great stay in this wonderful cottage that feels larger than the pictures show. The beds are very comfortable, the decor soothing, incredibly clean and well outfitted with beach chairs and bikes! Bill was great to communicate with and raised the bar compared to the others we have rented from. The back summer cottage reminded us from a scene from Dirty Dancing - it was a great stay and we will return. It was incredibly clean as well.

Relaxing and Quiet

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The screened porch was a great place to relax. The back cottage was nice to spend some quiet time at dusk. We went to the public beach a few times. Some days there was ample room to sit on the sandy beach but other days the waves were too high, however we still enjoyed it there. We love the old charm of the cottage and hope to visit again.

Great family vacation!

We had a great trip and the cottage was a wonderful location for our family to rest and eat between adventures. The host, Bill, was very helpful and had great communication. Checking in and out was a breeze and we felt right at home with plenty of sleeping space for our family of 6 (with younger kids ages 3-11.)

Spectacular garden. Cute house.

Charming and comfortable home. Beautiful garden. Plenty of space indoors and out. Nice kitchen and dining areas. Love the screen porch. The garden is a horticultural treasure. Love walking the neighborhood and visiting nearby antique stores. All around wonderful visit!

Great experience in Lakeside!

We had such a great time at the Lakeside Grove Cottage! It was clean, spacious, and close to antiques stores, the beach, breweries and coffee shops! We were able to explore the whole area on our short trip. The host was informative and helpful and it was an easy check-in process. Would recommend this vrbo!

Exactly what we needed

Our family has a home right around the corner and this was a perfect space to have as extra living space. The home is well stocked and clean. We would definitely stay again and maybe in the summer to enjoy the backyard.

Wonderful week at the Lakeside Cottage

The Lakeside Cottage is cozy, clean and so very comfortable. It was very chilly the week we were here so we weren't able to go to the beach, but there were plenty of activities nearby to keep the whole family engaged and happy. We brought our lab and had a great time taking long walks with her. Bill, the owner, was excellent to communicate with and when the power went out the first night was very responsive and helpful. A great place to stay! Thanks, Bill!

Cute cottage

Very cute cottage. Just wish it was 10 minute walk to true beaches. Closest beach was very, very small and we had to pass a home with a high pitched alarm system always going off. Not loud but audible and not very welcoming. Not much owner, Bill, can do about that! Highly recommend Black Currant Bakehouse in Union Pier! Lakeshore drive is a great road for biking and walking. Lots of big trees and beautiful homes too.

My wife and I are proud parents of three girls, and our family has enjoyed our cottage in Lakeside for many years. We really enjoy the entire local community - it has such charm and character.

You can't beat Southwestern Michigan in the summer, but we have also enjoyed Harbor Country in the late fall and winter - the area has so much to offer.

We only live 33 miles from the property, so in less than 45 minutes we can escape to an entirely different world. The original foundation dates to 1895, and this cottage has so much character and charm we just fell in love with the place.

One of the previous owners was a landscape architect, so the gardens are special. Our 'summer cottage' offers a great place to have a happy hour or let the kids escape to their 'own' private place. The grounds of our property are beautiful, and there are few better places to be than making s'mores at the fire pit after a great day at the beach.
