About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

The Woodland is a beautiful three level home nestled in the mountains of Western Maryland. You will have the opportunity to rest, relax and enjoy the mountain air. Once you have accomplished this, you will be ready for all the fun activities that are in close proximity. WISP Resort is only three minutes away with some of the more popular wintertime activities including skiing, snowboarding, tubing, and alpine sledding. Boating, water skiing, mountain biking and golf on a championship course are only a few of the summertime highlights.

Our home sleeps 6-8 comfortably. The loft with skylight has a set of twin beds. The main level has a living room, dining/kitchen and master bedroom with a King sized bed and full bath.

The kitchen offers all the amenities of home. Directly off the living room is a large wraparound deck which is the perfect spot to sip your morning coffee and have breakfast with the family. The deck boasts a large porch swing and a sensational view. (If you are lucky, you may see a flock of wild turkeys that come by every now and then).

The lower level has a family room with queen sleeper sofa, television, DVD player and cozy stone wood burning fireplace. The third bedroom with a set of twin beds, a full bath and laundry room reside here as well. There are double doors leading to the small outside patio with a barbeque grill.

About Betsy Thomas

My husband and I bought the Woodland in 1987, as a place to relax and recharge. As we explored the area we discovered so many things that we enjoyed doing, that going back was a joy. As an artist, I enjoy the quiet painting time the home affords me. We are three minutes from WISP and skiing in the winter and golf in the summer. Other wonderful adventuress include antiquing, specialty shopping, dog sledding (winter and summer). Hiking, go-carting, fly fishing, boating, corn maze (August – October) and just plain sitting on the deck and watching the birds. During our tenure the Garret County Arts Council has been formed. They sponsor lectures, concerts and for the past few years special concerts by the Pittsburgh Symphony.

Why Betsy Thomas chose McHenry

My husband and I were looking to buy a rental/vacation home in the late 80’s and we just fell in love with the Deep Creek area. We chose a house in the mountains because of the gorgeous scenery and solitude. We really enjoyed being a little out of the way yet very close to all of the local attractions in the area.

What makes this house unique

We are on the other side of the mountain from WISP Ski and Golf Resort. The house is just minutes away from skiing, tubing, rollerblading, and golfing. It is with in close driving distance to Deep Creek Lake and all of the lovely attractions that are held there. You are a short drive from the historic town of Oakland, where there are shops and restaurants to frequent. The Oakland farmers market that is held on every Wednesday and Saturday has a wide variety of foods and crafts. If you are into hiking and scenic walking, a brief drive will take you to Swallow Falls and Harrington Manor State Park. If you want to venture out a little further, you are close to two of Frank Lloyd Wright’s homes, Fallingwater and Kentucky Knob, which are open to the public for tours. Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is about an hour away in Pennsylvania. It offers, a full spa, golfing, and a myriad of other activities

This is the second time my friends and I have stayed at Betsy's place. Very warming and it feels like you are right at home with everything that you would need. It is also close to shopping, restaurants and outdoor activities.
