About Richard Hunt

Our family first discovered Island Park in 1960 while vacationing in the Yellowstone area. We were so enchanted by the uniqueness of the area that we decided to build our own home and guest cabin here in 1995.

Richard Hunt purchased this cabin in 1995

Why Richard Hunt chose Idaho

We enjoy the beauty of the setting, the wildlife, and the proximity to Yellowstone Park and the Tetons, as well as the outstanding fly fishing and other outdoor recreational activities.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the peace and serenity that the area offers. We can walk out the door and hike in the national forest, ride bikes to the Continental Divide and the Centennial Valley in Montana, and cross county ski and snowmobile right out the door.

Hope we can make it back in Sept. Thank you for a really special first time retreat from the desert!

Great place to stay.

Nice quiet location. On the drive to the West entrance to Yellowstone National Park, we saw moose and deer. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to others.

Clean, Cozy, Comfortable Cabin

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was great. My husband and I stayed here for a week while day hiking in Yellowstone. Rich is very friendly and if you like dogs, Sophie will play fetch with you for hours. The cabin was clean and comfortable with a refrigerator, hot shower, comfortable bed, and a TV and DVD player. The only reason we gave it 4 stars was due to spotty internet connectivity which made planning for hikes a little combersome. We would definitely come back again!

Beautiful Location - Very Close to Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

We checked out of this cabin a week ago and already miss it so much! It's about 20 minutes outside of the West Yellowstone entrance, so the access to the park is very easy to get to and the drive is beautiful from this cabin to the park. The cabin was so cozy and we loved throwing the tennis ball with Sophie their border collie! My husband and I loved our sunset walks at night along Henry's Lake. Rich was so amazing, was there when we checked in and sent me a text letting me know our cabin was ready. We will for sure be back again and I have already recommended this cabin to a few friends already! Thank you so much Rich!!! The Heeters

A very nice cabin with a great lake view

  • 5 of 5

Just finished a wonderful, relaxing 3 night stay at this cabin by Henry's Lake. It was SO quiet -we loved it! Went to Yellowstone 2 days - not more than a 25 minute drive to the park entrance. It's an easy drive too. The cabin is cozy and perfect for 2 or 3 people. Rich and his dog met us on arrival and both are very nice. The place was clean and as advertised. Kitchen has a small fridge, micro, hotplate and griddle and all worked fine for us. Used the BBQ one night too and results were tasty good. We went down to the road that parallels the lake and took a nice walk a couple days. There's a view of the lake from the cabin as well. The road is basically empty 'all' the time. I'd rent this place again in a heartbeat!

Loved It!

  • 4 of 5

Rich's cabin came highly recommended from a lifelong friend. We were not disappointed. Off the beaten path and surrounded by wilderness and wildlife, but close enough to places for dining and supplies. We enjoyed our stay and the on property host could not have been more gracious. Only 20 minutes to the West Yellowstone entrance to the Park. Great value, again we want to say we loved it!

It's perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was truly perfect! Everything was just as advertised -- actually better! Spotlessly clean, nicely furnished, easy to find. The owners, who live nearby, were great hosts and provided us with information on out-of-the-way places to visit in the vicinity! Particularly enjoyed our lunch at the Elk Lake Resort.
