About Richard Hunt

Our family first discovered Island Park in 1960 while vacationing in the Yellowstone area. We were so enchanted by the uniqueness of the area that we decided to build our own home and guest cabin here in 1995.

Richard Hunt purchased this cabin in 1995

Why Richard Hunt chose Idaho

We enjoy the beauty of the setting, the wildlife, and the proximity to Yellowstone Park and the Tetons, as well as the outstanding fly fishing and other outdoor recreational activities.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the peace and serenity that the area offers. We can walk out the door and hike in the national forest, ride bikes to the Continental Divide and the Centennial Valley in Montana, and cross county ski and snowmobile right out the door.

Quiet in the Midst of a Chaotic Elcipse Trip

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Henry's Lake was just what we were looking for. It was oh so quiet and our hosts were more than accommodating, even lending us binoculars. The cabin seemed close to the main house at first but we had total privacy, our own parking space and didn't feel crowded in the least. It was like the host were neighbors rather than the owners. The cabin might look small but it really isn't at all. There was lots of space for the two of us and all our gear and while cooking or relaxing we had lots of room. The bed is a memory foam dream, sooo comfortable.

The area is great for wildlife, we saw moose, prairie dogs, fox (or coyote?), deer and even had a resident bald eagle family. The location is close to West Yellowstone and the park as well as laundry facilities. I really wish we could have stayed longer.

PS: The windows were the perfect height for both privacy and just leaning on to just look out over the pasture and the lake.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the cabin.

  • 3 of 5

We would have enjoyed the gorgeous views more if we could have seen out the high windows or had the deck out front not on the side facing the owners deck. Also cooking other than with a microwave was limited...frig. very small etc.

Owner's Response: We have never had anyone complain about the windows and the deck, but we are sorry that they did not meet your expectations. We lived in this cabin while building the main cabin, and we never found the windows to be too high to hinder enjoying the view. In addition our photos on our listing clearly show the windows. As for the deck, we were unable to build it on the other side, and the chairs can easily be turned to face the lake view. Our listing also states that the cabin has a kitchenette with a small refrigerator, and there is a photo of it. We offer use of our freezer in the guest cabin storage area. Although there is no stove, there is a microwave, toaster oven, hot plate, electric griddle, crockpot, toaster and barbecue. When we lived in this cabin for three summers, we cooked complete meals with these appliances and did not find the lack of a stove to be a problem.

Beautiful setting, nice clean cabin. Nice people

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay. Rich was very helpful and communicated with me from start to finish. Only downfall was poor cell phone reception at cabin but definitely not a dealbreaker. Actually the quiet with no phones ringing was refreshing. Good people and great place.

Cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! The cabin had everything you would need, which is a change from other rentals we have stayed at. Only 20 minutes from west entrance of Yellowstone. Rich was very knowledgeable and helpful. We definitely stay here again!

Idyllic stay outside Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

We appreciated Richard's explicit directions to the cabin. Stayed for three nights while we explored Yellowstone for the first time. The cabin was wonderful, quiet and cool. Comfortable bed and linens. Enjoyed the small but efficient kitchen after staying in hotel rooms. We BBQ on the porch and had view of the lake. Just right for the 2 of us plus our dog. We did not take the dog into the park as dogs are not allowed on trails. Dog was fine the first day we left but the second day she scratched the door trying to get out. Richard called us and took the dog with him to allay her anxiety. We were so embarrassed, having touted our dog as well mannered, but he put us at ease and was very nice to the miscreant. We would love to come back and do some fishing. It is a beautiful area with too many things to see in 3 days.
