In the center of the historic town of L' Isle Sur la Sorgue. Famous for its waterways, antique shops and markets, L' Isle Sur la Sorgue is also full of delightful cafes, restaurants, galleries with winding streets and hidden historic buildings.
“L' Ambiance” is the perfect place to enjoy the bounties of this fabulous Provencal town and, for a short time, pretend you really live here! After spending many vacations in L’ Isle Sur la Sorgue rental homes our fantasy of living here came true when we purchased L' Ambiance. It is now our home for part of the year and has been renovated, furnished and supplied with our needs and desires in mind. We hope that those are also your desires and that L'Ambiance can be your home away from home.
In the center of town with the buzz of the village all around, L'Ambiance was recently completely renovated with a gourmet kitchen, shower room, a quiet and relaxing terrace with bbq and beautiful decoration by a professional designer. The decoration is a combination of new “practical” furniture and interesting old local finds. There are two plush leather chairs where you can enjoy your coffee or glass of wine and watch the life of the town pass before you. There is a separate lounge where you can watch TV in either French or English, watch a DVD, or just relax and read a book. Selection of DVDs and books are provided. Wi-Fi is available throughout the apartment.
L' Isle Sur la Sorgue is renowned for its Sunday market which includes incredible produce, cheese and other food, antiques and brocante. Walk out the front door and the market is there for you to enjoy. There is also a Thursday farmers market in town and in Velleron, just a few kilometers away, there is a farmers market six evenings a week! With fabulous butchers, bakeries and wine shops just a short walk from the apartment you can make incredible meals in the gourmet kitchen or walk to the amazing restaurants and cafes nearby. Since the apartment is on the second floor, the premier etage in French, you can easily carry your bounty home from the markets!
If you love to cook this is the kitchen for you! The stainless steel appliances are top of the line featuring a five burner gas cook top, electric convection oven, and dishwasher. The white lacquered lower cabinets are topped with black granite providing ample workspace.
The kitchen opens up to the lounge with a dining table and chairs, two leather club chairs, a marble topped coffee table and a CD music system with a library of CDs. The club chairs face the large window with a retractable awning that looks down at shops with beautiful Provencal goods and a café. You can enjoy the life of the village from your own private vantage point! The light filled apartment has air conditioning for hot weather and heating for the colder months.
The private terrace is reached from the kitchen through the glassed in porch that has the washing machine and clothes drying rack. The quiet and peaceful terrace has a dining table and chairs, a sun umbrella, gas Weber BBQ and two comfy lounge chairs. There are fresh herbs for you to use for cooking or just enjoy looking at and smelling. The terrace has both sunshine and shade so will take care of all your needs.
There is one bedroom with a queen sized bed or, if you desire, it can be made up as two twin beds. There is a large wardrobe with ample storage space. There is also a TV in this room with French and English stations.
The shower room has a large walk-in shower with sliding glass doors, w.c., hand basin and a heated towel rack. There is a cabinet to store all of your things. A hair dryer is supplied for your convenience.

After exploring other parts of France and Italy we first stayed in L’Isle sur la Sorgue in 2005 and loved it so much that we wound up renting vacation homes there for five years. We fell in love with the town and the area. Every year we would longingly look at apartments and houses for sale and dreamed of spending more time in the village. In 2010 we bought our apartment, L’Ambiance, and now spend about half of the year there. We had the apartment totally renovated and decorated by a professional decorator and it has everything needed for a comfortable stay.
We started renting L’Ambiance for summer vacation rentals in 2011 and have had a very successful six years of rentals through VRBO with 5 star ratings on all of our reviews. We are very pleased that our guests consider our apartment their home away from home with a few of the renters having stayed with us for multiple years.
When we’re in L’Isle we like to take advantage of the central location and travel to other parts of France and Europe. There is just so much to discover relatively close by. We’ve also made many friends in the town and it really does feel like our second home.
We find the town is just the right size. A small village feel with many amenities. L’Ambiance is located in the center of the village. More extensive services are available as you go to the outer parts of L’Isle. Within 30 to 60 minutes driving there are an incredible number of wonderful places to visit: famous wine areas such as Gigondas and Chateauneuf du Pape; the hilltop villages made famous by Peter Mayle – Menerbes, Bonnieaux, Lacoste; the famous cities of Arles, Aix en Provence and Avignon; and the Mediterranean.
Harry is the cook in the family and he really enjoys the wonderful products available here. He loves cooking in the kitchen that he designed and we and our friends truly appreciate the meals he prepares for us. We hope that you enjoy your stay at L’Ambiance as much as we do.

Harry and Judy Andrew purchased this apartment in 2010
This was our second trip to the apartment and l'Isle sur la Sorgue. We enjoyed it as much or more than our first trip.
The kitchen in this apartment is exceptionally well equipped. There is a pan for every need and the gas stove is a joy to use. The BBQ on the terrace is really nice for a quick grill of sausage or other meat for dinner. There is an excellent butcher and boulangerie just a few steps from the apartment. There is a friendly small wine store near the church. The Utile is a good small grocery store for in between market days. They were also doing a very promising renovation and extension of their wine section.
The tile floors and AC keep the apartment cool even in the Provençal summer. The washer is easy to use and clothes dry quickly if you hang them on the rack and put them out on the terrace for the afternoon.
A visit to the Partage des Eaux was a nice evening walk. One thing we did for the first time this trip was visit the Fontaine de Vaucluse. This is the underground source of the Sorgue river. Even in the summer with lower water flow, it was amazing. The water is crystal clear and beautiful. It is definitely worth a visit. We took the bus from the apartment, but it would be a short drive.
It was great trip and we cannot wait to go back. I am still dreaming about the lavender ice cream and strawberry basil sorbet we would walk to get for dessert every night near the church.
Beautiful property and position was prefer for us. The only snag is parking. We will be returning it was so good. The owners called to welcome us and the caretaker Helen is a LOVE. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Sandy and John
We rented L'Ambience for only two weeks...should have made it longer. The apartment has everything you could possibly need. The owners are very helpful and welcoming with Helen who welcomed us and had helpful ideas about the local sights and restaurants. The town is a real gem and we found our few "favourite" shops and eateries. We are looking forward to our next visit.
We stayed a week at L'Ambiance for our two week honeymoon and we both were so disappointed that we hadn't planned the full two weeks here. The location was amazing in the middle of L'Isle sur la Sorgue, with a great view over a cafe which often hosted live music. The apartment had everything we needed to be comfortable away from home and was very spacious. Helen was incredibly sweet and welcoming and gave us lots of tips for sightseeing and eating out in the area. We also received a call from Judy just to make sure we had everything we needed. L'Isle sur la Sorgue is a perfect location for making day trips into the countryside and mountains or just strolling around town to the cafes, markets, and river. We are already planning our next vacation, and we hope to book this same apartment for next time. We are so happy with our experience!
We are just finishing a 4 week stay at L'Ambiance apartment and have enjoyed every minute. So enjoyed this home away from home with an American kitchen, large bathroom and shower, wi fi, TV room, a/c, terrace and comfortable bed. We had everything we needed to come home and relax after a day of exploring. Great to grill on the patio, or chill inside and read or watch tv with a glass of wine. With the markets and local butchers, fromager, and Boulangeries within steps, we really did not need to leave town. Harry and Judy were a pleasure to work with, as was the property manager. We love L'Ambiance and cannot wait for another visit.
Our two weeks at L'Ambiance was the most amazing memory of a truly relaxing and authentic experience of village life. We shopped at the village markets, charcuterie and boulangerie so that we could cook in a kitchen with all the equipment of home. On some days we drove to neighbouring villages or just spent time walking through the village with the many waterwheels and canals. We learnt to drink rose like the locals or gather for a chat at Chinois on the corner. We were welcomed to the apartment by the manager and enjoyed every comfort of home. Many stories to tell on our return
L'Isle Sur la Sorgue is very near to internationally acclaimed wine villages. It is just a short drive to Chateauneuf-de-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueras, Sablet, and many others. A little bit longer drive will take you to Bandol and Cassis.
