About Ellen de Bremond
My husband, daughters, grandchildren and I enjoy this house immensely! We started coming here when the girls were little, they are now full grown with children. We live in Garrett Park, Maryland and love to come to Chincoteague to relax and enjoy the quiet island life. A regular day in Chincoteague for us is going for a bike ride around the nature reserve to the beach, swimming and playing in the water, followed by some relaxation on the deck with a glass of white wine and an amazing seafood dinner, We love this house and are really happy to be able to share it now with brand new floors, new paint, and many other upgrades!
Ellen de Bremond purchased this House in 1970
Why Ellen de Bremond chose Piney Island
Our family has been vacationing in Chincoteague since the early 1970s. We first owned a house in town on Chicken City Road, but when the Maddox family decided to sell Piney Island, we jumped at the chance to build a little house in the Piney woods. With my own children now grown, we have a new tradition of bringing our young grandchildren here to enjoy the magic and beauty of Chincoteague. While much of the beach towns of the eastern shore have changed quite a bit over the last 40 years, so much of what makes Chincoteague unique and special-- the wildlife refuge for bird and pony-watching, the quiet peacefulness, the 'fishermans-town' feel of Chincoteague, remain the same.
What makes this House unique
Our house is located on Piney Island, a15 min walk/5 min. bike ride from the entrance to Assateague National Seashore. It is close to everything (restaurants, the best bbq place on the island, surf shop, bike rentals, family dollar for essentials) and yet Piney Island is remote, quiet peaceful. There are very few parts of Chincoteague that are this relaxing and mellow. The house itself is surrounded by pine trees. At night you'll hear the trees whispering in the night breezes and see the lighthouse flashing from across the channel. You are one street from the water! For kayaking and boating, the Piney Island community has a boat launch right down the road a short 5 minutes away. The Assateague Channel is also about 500 feet (stones throw) from the house, so though you are not right on the water, you are always surrounded by the fresh salt air and cool breezes.

Fun time had by all
A comfortable and spacious place to rest up between bike rides through the park and enjoying all the activities the island has to offer. Centrally located, yet tucked away on a nice quiet street that makes you feel like a local. Enjoyed seeing the ponies, riding our bikes to the beach and walking through town. Sandpiper House helped make my Mother's Day weekend with my two daughters very enjoyable.
We so enjoyed our stay at the Sandpiper house over Oyster fest weekend! The home is beautiful in a lovely secluded area right off of Maddox boulevard. Close to all amenities yet far enough away to relax. Would definitely rent again!
Thanks for your lovely review of our house!
We would certainly welcome you back.
Very Comfortable, Great Location!
We so enjoyed spending our family vacation at the Sandpiper. This house was very comfortable for our family of five and is in a great location. It took us minutes to drive to Assateague and we could easily walk to the Pony Express Trolley stop (two locations- The Museum of Chincoteague and the Chamber of Commerce). Next time, we will just have to bring or rent bikes. Then, we could just let our car sit. I appreciated the sand toys and chalkboard available for our children to enjoy. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this property. Thanks, Ellen!
Thanks Rachael for your review! I'm so happy to hear that you had a wonderful vacation and loved our house 🏡.
We look forward to having you return soon.
The SANDPIPER HOUSE made our vacation!
The Sandpiper house was a real pleasure for my family! It's a very spacious and well kept home, with all the amenities that makes a vacation relaxing and special. There are three very nice bedrooms with comfortable mattresses, a large television in the living room and one in the master bedroom. This house would easily accommodate 6 to 8 people. The kitchen has everything you'd want at home - plates, utensils, a great gas stove and oven, toaster, microwave, pots pans, EVERYTHING you would need to cook any meal! The dining room table is large enough for 6+ people and the kitchen has a table for four. Just being able to come home in the evening to the Sandpiper house as opposed to a small, impersonal hotel room, made our vacation very very enjoyable.
The location was just perfect too, right in the center of where you want to be. The beach is a quick, pleasant, 10 minute drive away and great seafood restaurants and delicious ice cream shops are less than 5 minutes away. If you forget something, don't worry - there are two well stocked general stores only minutes away!
We'll definitely use the Sandpiper House again! You'll love it!
Thank you Michelle for your review.
We are so happy that you loved your stay in our house and would love to have you back soon!
We loved Chincoteague and the Sandpiper House!
We had a wonderful experience at the Sandpiper House and on our visit to Chincoteague and Assateague. This was our first visit to the area. My husband and I have four children. My parents also stayed with us so there were 8 of us in the house. There was plenty of room to eat family meals and to sit and play board games and visit. Everyone had enough space. We LOVED that the house was within a short bike ride to Assateague and that it was situated on such a quiet, family friendly part of the island. We also really appreciated the outdoor shower and used it every time we returned from the beach. It kept the sand outside where it belonged! It was so nice to have access to a grill and to all of the extra supplies like the crabbing equipment. My kids had so much fun catching (and releasing) the crabs! We saw bald eagles, dolphins and the ponies! We would LOVE to return for another visit some day. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Thank you for your review. We would certainly welcome you back! We really want to make a home comfortable and fun for children as well as adults.
You left the house clean and ready for our next guests who really appreciated it.
Just let me know when you would like to return-
Cheers and thank you very much!
New favorite rental property!!!
My family loves vacationing in Chincoteague, this was our first time staying at the Sandpiper House. The location is perfect, just a short walk to family friendly activities, crabbing and the Pony Express. I can't stress enough how conveniently located this home is for families with teenagers and young adults.
The house is spacious, the decor is relaxing, and what we enjoyed the most was the outside deck area. Offers a grill for the days you just want to relax and don't feel like going out. Another huge plus was that vaccum, broom, etc were easily accessible. (Actually rented a place once that didn't have those items). All furnishing was clean, comfortable and in great condition.
We are also big on recycling so we really appreciated that besides all the info for area attractions, restaurants and events there was also information on the recycling/trash drop off location.
Finally, Ellen is absolutely amazing to work with. Great communication, received the key and map in plenty of enough time that we didn't have to stress wether they'd arrive or not. Contacted me shortly after we booked with information regarding the area and the home. That was a first for us and we have been renting vacation rentals for the last 12 years, multiple times a year; it was nice to have that interaction!!!
We were originally upset when we learned that place we have previously rented in the area is no longer a rental but ended up extremely pleased with Sandpiper House and look forward to next year.
Thanks Ellen for sharing your home with us!!!
Thanks for your great review! We certainly would love to have your family return. Please consider our house your summer spring and fall get away home too!
