About Bill Rynne

My wife and I would love to spend six or seven months a year here if we could bring our dog. We live west of Boston, MA and although we love the changing seasons, life at our condo at Sapphire is very special for us.

I am not always very good at expressing to my wife how very special she is and how much I love her. I am also not very romantic, but somehow I came up with a very special moment for my wife while we were at Sapphire a few years ago

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law (my wife's maid of honor at our wedding) , were staying with us at the condo at the same time as our fortieth wedding anniversary. I secretly arranged for a surprise vow renewal at the point at Sapphire. I worked with a local wedding coordinator to help with the arrangements and I secretly flew my kids in and hid them out until the night of our anniversary. I lured everyone to the point at sunset and sprung the surprise. She was completely surprised. When she realized what was going on and saw the kids the tears started. It was a very special evening!

A funny moment occurred before the actual ceremony. I got down on one knee and proposed, again. and again, and again. .....She refused to answer me! She claims she was confused and trying to comprehend what was happening, but I have serious doubts. I think she was mulling alternatives but I guess I will never know for sure. She eventually said yes.

That is just one reason that Sapphire is so meaningful for us. We hope you can create your own memories on your vacation.

Bill Rynne purchased this condo in 1988

Why Bill Rynne chose East End

We had visited many Caribbean islands before we came to Sapphire Beach. Just about the minute we walked out on the beach we knew we had found our beach. At that time, the early 80's, we stayed nearby as the resort had not been built. We saw some tentative plans and made a reservation for our unit. The construction was not completed until 1988, which is when we took title.

St. Thomas is easy to get to from the East coast with direct flights of four hours or less from Boston, NY, and Miami.

It is an American territory so money, electricity, and language require no special arrangements. Probably the major difference from the states are that they drive on the left.

While nothing is guaranteed you usually have warm sunny days, with light breezes on every visit

What makes this condo unique

Our family has sun lovers and shade sitters. Sapphire Beach has an abundance of both sunny and shady beach areas.

The swimming beach is literally steps from our door, so going back to the condo for lunch, drinks, bathroom, etc is a piece of cake.

Many choose to spend the day on the beach enjoying the beautiful view of St. John. Jost Van Dyke, Tortolla, and the many nearby cays. You can count on watching the Pelicans diving from the sky to catch fish, and walk the half mile beach now and then.

There is a nice reef for snorkeling on the right side of the beach. It is a shallow reef so is very safe and yet has many different varieties of fish of all sizes and colors.

For the more adventuresome there is an area of seagrass out deeper that usually has turtles, rays, and, squid.

There is a dive shop on the beach with all sorts of gear and toys. There are floats, snorkeling equipment, wind surfers, kayaks, scuba, scuba lessons, and both shore and boat dives.

Sapphire has an on site marina and there are many tour boats of all types in the marina that go to St. John, Jost Van Dyke, and the Baths at Virgin Gorda. There are several fishing boats in the marina as well.

Be sure to ask about my special discounts on any New Horizon boat trips or sunset cruises.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I rented a one bedroom unit #302 in building A at the Sapphire Beach Resort via a VRBO listing. As a starting point the owner of this unit was great and very easy to work with. He responded promptly to my initial request and made everything easy including providing a list of everything we needed to enjoy our trip.

The unit we rented included a first floor living space with kitchem, bathroom and sitting area. This unit was remodeled at some point in the last few years. The kitchen and downstairs bath were of the quality I would expect at a high end resort. The balcony included a direct view of Sapphire beach, which I consider the most beautiful beach on the island. The sitting area included a hideaway bed my children slept on that met their needs. The kitchen is well equipped and we generally ate breakfast and lunch in our unit. The second floor of this unit included the bedroom, second bathroom, sitting area and a second balcony. Once again the bathroom was remodeled. The bed in the master bedroom was a little too firm for my preference but overall I was extremely pleased with this unit and would highly recommend.

The "resort" is mainly comprised of individually owned units so it is important to review photos of your unit prior to booking. First and second floor units are studios and the the third floor is the 1 bedrooms. If traveling as a couple I think the studios would work, but would recommend the one bedroom if traveling with a family. There is a laundry facility onsite in a small trailer if needed. My room included complimentary Wi Fi. This resort is also adjacent to a marina that can be used for day trips and booking snorkeling adventures. There is a small beach bar on site for drinks and basic lunch food as well as a dive shop for renting snorkel and rental gear. The pool was awesome and overlooked the ocean. There is an old beach bar next to the pool that is currently closed so it does take away from the experience a little, but overall it was a minor issue.

Our unit included daily beach towel service so we could trade in our towels daily. The unit also included complimentary beach chair service daily. The unit also included snorkel equipment free of charge for our entire trip. The unit was close to the town of Red Hook and as a result close to multiple dining options and the ferry to St. John. The onsite dining options are limited to the beach bar and a pizza place at an adjacent resort

Condo was as advertised. Nice location and excellent view of the beach.

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed in the property for last week during our St. Thomas stay. From start to finish, working with the condo owner was awesome and Bill was available to answer questions during our stay. The amount of space and beds worked comfortably for our group. The condo was well appointed and had the essentials we needed to cook, clean and be comfortable. We did not rent a car and the taxis were a little expensive for the first couple of days until we figured out the city transport that dropped u off at the top of the hill leading into Sapphire. The bottom floor Air Conditioner worked well, but we struggled with the heat upstairs as the ac did not work as well. Building A had easy access to the beach and being able to sit out on the balcony to sip morning coffee looking at the view was a great feeling. My only issue is the lack of a restaurant on the property as the beach bar food was only so-so for the price. On sight property staff were helpful and we all had a great time

Beautiful Location on Sapphire Beach!

  • 5 of 5

My sife and I stayed at Bill's condo on Sapphire beach in December 2016. We picked his condo because he is well known on TripAdvisor for giving outstanding tips and information about St. Thomas. He sent us several emails with valuable tips and guidance from the beaches to restaurants to navigating the airport. From the beginning, Bill was accomodating. The condo wasn't available due to yearly maintenance. Once he found out we were interested, he worked with his contractor to move the maintenance to the following week. Bill communicated at every step, calling us the day after we checked in to see if everything was okay. One of the great advantages of Bill's condo is how close it is to Red Hook where we ate at the restaraunts and took several trips to the grocery stores. Since I worked 5 of the 8 days we were in St. Thomas, the location on Sapphire beach allowed my wife to walk out to the beach every morning to spend the day. It is a truly beautiful beach with an amazing view of the other islands, including St. John. We will definately consider staying at Bill's when we visit St. Thomas again.
