This is a true getaway. We searched the enitre area of the Russian River before we settled on this property. Camp Meeker is unique with its logging history, post San Francisco earth quake. After it was done as a logging camp it was developed as a vacation community. Families have owned properties for multi generations and some became full time residents. It is fun to hear the family histories and tales of days gone by.It is central to the RussianRiver, ocean, Redwoods, wine country, and all of the entertainment, activities, and open countryside of West Sonoma county. The cabin is a great place to leave your daily life behind and truly disconnect. We get some cell coverage, but its more a place to reconnect to each other. We enjoy sharing our space with friends and family, but both agree, it is best with just us two. We chose to not put TV, and all of the other distractions of daily life so that it would feel like time away from our daily life. We have shared some of our best meals in our backyard Redwood grove. It's a place to come home to after a day of enjoying what you love to do outside, enjoy a GREAT SHOWER and a fantastic night of rest. The entertainment available in West Sonoma county is endless, via festivals, wineries, and farm trails. Where there is wine there is great food. We are pet friendly to responsible and well trained owners of pets. We do not have complete fencing, so your dog can not be left unattended out of doors and must have good indoor manners. We love the children we raised as I am sure you love yours, but our cabin is made as a true getaway..

My husband and I have been together 30 years. We have always understood the importance of getting away on our own to reconnect. When our last child was out of the house, we set out to find this place. We spent two years looking and two years creating. We did all of the work and enjoyed our time there all the while. Our dream is to own a Bed & Breakfast one day. We chose this area because of all of the activities, entertainment, and the weather. The cabin does not get the coastal fog or the winds that come off of the river. There is sun year round. The Friday night market in Occidental, Union Hotel Bar & Restaurant, Barley & Hops Pub, & Howards Cafe have enough to offer in a weekend that you never have to leave Occidental if you don't want to. We love coming to an area that has so much Calif. history and where generations of families have owned vacation properties. We hope you will come and enjoy the cabin for all of the reasons we do and find some of your own, and then come again.

Why Owner chose Camp Meeker
We chose this area because it is within a close distance of our home for a weekend getaway. The drive in is scenic because of all of the open lands. We were looking to be within minutes of the Ocean, but did not want the coastal fog. We are within 15 min. of warmer weather or cooler weather. It is a unique climate location. The towering Redwoods have the ability to grab your attention and distract you from your daily thinking. The cabin is located off a beautiful stretch of Hwy. and nestled in a quiet vacation community where people come to rest.
What makes this Cabin unique
We asked our friends and family to help give us a name for the cabin that best described the feeling for them while there. For Play was the name we chose. You will want to leave the woes of daily life and responsibilities behind and play, whatever that means for you. It's a great place to watch the sun move through the trees first thing in the morning, or take a walk to a nearby scenic lookout. We have a picnic pack that we take to the ocean parks, river, or any spot we may come upon. There are many nearby hiking trails that are short in distance or can take you all the way to te ocean. It is a great biking destination for all skill levels and or the motorized cyclist. We like to participate in local community events as much as possible, like the local volunteer Fire Dept. pancake breakfast & BBQ. We do enjoy the community spirit. We enjoy sharing information on local restaurants and activities with guests. We have a window of opportunity that holds local discounts that we are able to come by for our guests.

We (partner, pup, and I) were incredibly lucky to be able to stay here for March. If you like redwoods, redwoods in the mist, hiking in the redwoods, smelling the redwoods, hearing and ravens fly through the redwoods, then this place is for you.
The owners have done a lot of work on the cabin, and the results are excellent. In terms of vibe, the floor plan is open and airy, with huge windows to better see the redwoods and tasteful decorations. The bed was super comfy and when you wake up, you see redwoods. The shower is big, beautiful, hot, high pressure. We did a lot of intense cooking in the kitchen, which is well supplied with all the tools you need (although bring a knife if you're picky) and a gas(!) stove. There's a gas grill and firepit, too. BYOWood. Camp Meeker is really quiet and the neighbors are friendly.
It's also about as dog-friendly as can be. There are miles of trails that begin literally across the street. They pass some nice redwoods and GIANT Douglas fir and go along redwood-filled stream valleys and look out over redwood-filled valleys. We had the dog off leash basically the entire time with no trouble (and we hardly saw anyone). Watch out for ticks!
In terms of location, it's a couple of minutes from Occidental, convenient to Sebastopol (15 mins) and surrounding, gorgeous wine country, and convenient to the Sonoma Coast. There are loads of stunning road biking options - we went along Coleman Valley Road to Bodega Bay. Definitely visit Wild Flour Bread Bakery, the Grove of Old Trees, and Shell Beach.
The owners were generous, hands off, and straightforward, and the obviously work to make you feel welcome and provide suggestions to enjoy the location. We didn't have any trouble with the place, so just communicated at the beginning and end. It was all easy.
Magical cabin in the redwoods
This 1947 cabin has been lovingly restored. If you appreciate true craftsmanship, you’ll see this is a labor of love. And when you see it, you’ll understand the magical part. It resides on a mountain top in a grove of trees. The owners have designed this cabin for comfort as well as beauty. We stayed two nights and were attending a wedding rehearsal and wedding so our time in the cabin was limited. We plan to go back as soon as we can for a week. It smells heavenly there. We suggest you bring groceries as you won’t want to leave. We highly recommend this treasure.
Thank you so kindly. We did appreciate your information about the bathroom sink. Maybe top of the hill, but a mountain for some.lol
Great little cabin
My sister and I just stayed the weekend while visiting family in Occidental. We found the cabin to be better than we expected. I don't think there was one detail over looked when decorating it. Everything was very comfortable. The view was amazing.. made you feel like you are in a tree house. The location was perfect.. we went to Bodega Bay and to Jenner.. saw whale and sea lions. We are already talking about going back and staying longer.. there is a whole outdoor living area.. we only used briefly. Great get away!! Lots to do!! Perfect place to just do nothing also!! Look forward to going back.
Very private cabin. Responsive host.
The second bed was very comfortable especially for a fold out couch with an air mattress, and there is a privacy curtain installed in that room. Great for two couples! Cabin is very cozy and the woods are very secluded and lovely! Don't hesitate to book. Maureen our host picked up the phone every time we called with a question. Thank you!
quiet, quaint, and comfortable.
From the very start communication was excellent. The description of the home was very accurate. Instructions for entering and locking up were simple and concise. The home was quiet and secluded. We had a comfortable and relaxing weekend to bring in the New Year.
Great secluded location in the redwoods
Well equipped little kitchen. Responsive owner. Less then 2 miles to town which can be done off the main road if you do some research. Comfortable digs in a wonderful location.
West Sonoma county has so much to offer in entertainment, wine tasting, biking, hiking, or just enjoying the beauty of the nearby Russian River, Bodega Bay, and all of the activities they offer. It is a place to get out and see, but come home at the end of your busy day and get away..
