About Charles Hare

We reside in the Phoenix Metro area, having moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area in 1995.

Charles Hare purchased this house in 2006

Why Charles Hare chose Canyon Country & Northeast

There is nothing comparable to waking up in the mountains surrounded by beautiful pines and breathing the pure air. The house features vaulted ceilings and an open, flowing floor plan centered around the kitchen area that creates an engaging place to spend time with family and friends. Flagstaff is a friendly town full of history, and still retains a strong sense of local authenticity with minimal dilution from national chains.

What makes this house unique

Activities are only limited by one's imagination. One can walk to golfing, swimming, tennis and lunch; or drive a few miles on back roads to hike among the cliff dwellings at Walnut Canyon, or a few miles in another direction to hike to protected but undeveloped preserve with pictograph covered river canyon walls, or head downtown Flagstaff for a hearty breakfast before heading out to hike or bike - name your pleasure, from challenging to novice, and there's a hiking or biking trail for you. If relaxation is in order, you can't beat an afternoon on the shaded deck reading and watching the golfers go by or the squirrels and birds playing in the trees around you. Flagstaff has many very good dining options, an expanding craft beer brewery community and entertaining venues.

Snowbowl is 30 minutes by car.

Sedona is 45 minutes via Hwy 89A through Oak Creek Canyon.

The Grand Canyon South Rim via I-40 to Williams then north on AZ 64 or via Hwy 180 is 80 or 90 minutes. The East Rim via Hwy 89A North & 64 West is about 90 minutes. The complete loop takes 3.5 hours without stops.

Quiet and relaxing with good central location

  • 4 of 5

Our family had such a great time staying at this home. It was so quiet while we stayed and enjoyed sitting on the back porch in the mornings smelling pine trees and watching the birds. There was plenty of space in the living areas for spreading out. Liked the vaulted ceilings and windows all across the back. The master bedroom is plenty big and another bedroom with the queen bed was a decent size. The last 2 bedrooms were on the small side but just fine for the kids.

I also liked the nice neighborhood and quick access to the interstate. Loved eating at Oregano's Italian restaurant close by.

We had everything we needed. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

A beautiful slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house for our sons NAU graduation. We were very impressed with the aesthetics. This home is older but has been updated and was comfy for our family. The view of the golf course and outside deck are fantastic. We would recommend this for a getaway any time of year!

Nice propetry in Flagstaff.

  • 4 of 5

We were there in the winter during a snow storm. Location of the home was excellent and surrounding area was beautifully covered in snow. Very steep driveway was sometimes difficult to get out of during icy and snowy conditions. Overall house was nice though bedroom on opposite side of the home got very cold and bathroom was extremely tight. Home is well furnished and well stocked. We would stay there again when in Flagstaff.

Perfect Flagstaff Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at the Cabin on the 14th Tee many times and have never been disappointed. From the accommodating, friendly owners (Charles & Zoe) to the excellently maintained home wrapped in pine trees. There were six people in our party and everyone commented on the comfortable clean beds and their good night's sleep. The home provided a spacious floor plan for the family. We had a fun family night playing one of the many board games available in the library; used the gas BBQ to grille carne asada for lunch; had every utensil we needed in the well-equipped kitchen; and enjoyed movies and the football game on the big HD TV. We celebrated a birthday at Black Bart's Steakhouse just minutes away from the house, which was a lively establishment of talented singing waiters and great steaks. I asked Zoe for a fun place in town and she recommended a wine loft on San Francisco Street which had an amazingly large selection of world wines, plus a long list of board games we could play while we enjoyed our beverages - FLG Terrior. I would definitely recommend this lovely home to my friends.

Spiders Spiders Spiders

  • 1 of 5

This house is covered with Spiders. We have 3 little ones and the spiders were so big our 5 year old was scared to sleep in her room. We contacted the owner and he didn't seem to care. The house is what it is is what we were told.

WIFI- had to re-set 3 times in 2 days. If your looking to disconnect this is the house to do it. Or you will pay the data fees.

There is NOT a hot tub at this property. The add makes it look like there is.

The owner of this property is not easy to deal with.

Owner's Response: Stunned by this review! We have the house inspected before and after each guest. This guest was very complimentary about the house upon arrival during our welcoming phone call. Never have we represented the house has a hot tub. We invite all prospective guests to read our website description. We do not state nor imply there is a hot tub at the house. There is one at the nearby community center that is available for a fee. In 6 years of renting, no other guest has been confused by the description. We endeavor to be highly responsive to our guests as is reflected in other reviews. We were not contacted during the stay - only by email after departure. It is impossible to respond to issues when we are not informed timely. Given the house was made available on very short notice (2 days), on the same day as a departing guest, that we called to verify the house was satisfactory to the guests and that we allowed late departure by 5 hours, it is perplexing why we'd be described as difficult to deal with or not caring. We are having a pest control company inspect the house this week and the carpets cleaned of the heavy stains left by this guest. We also have a monitoring app that sends alerts by text and email if Wi-FI service is interrupted. None was received during that weekend or since the cable company repaired service lines 6 months ago. It is interesting to note the prior guests (3 week stay), did not report spiders and gave a glowing review below.

Great house, great patio, great area (and was perfect for our little kids)

  • 5 of 5

I read almost all the reviews and agree with everything - this house was great. Any "issues" others had raised (lack of towels, A/C issues), were all resolved when we stayed for three weeks in August 2016.

I can, however, offer some additional tips and a slightly different POV, as we had our two little children (11 months and 2 years old) with us.

-This house was truly great for little kids (note: this is NOT a "child house" - we were simply able to make a few small adjustments to make it work well for us).

-We moved all the breakable items up, away from their reach, put little "corner protectors" on the coffee table. Easy.

-As with all older houses (built before 1990 or so), sound travels, so we brought sound-machines for the kids rooms. The main rooms are on the opposite side of the TV area, so there was no issue with that.

-The one issue we had was that there were no black-out blinds (which we are used to, as we have them at home), but there are PLENTY of extra sheets and blankets, so we just draped a few over the windows and that did the trick.

-The deck is completely closed off, so we felt comfortable letting our kids roam around on their without worry they were going to fall or run away.

-The living areas are very comfortable - couches are great (and the rug in the TV area was very soft!)

-We brought our own spices (since we were there for a while), but the kitchen is actually very well stocked with spices. (It gets expensive having to re-buy a bunch of spices that you will use one-time!)

-House is close to the club-house which has two great restaurants, and is reasonably priced.

-Golf course is great for taking walks early morning or later in the evening (when golfers are not present, obviously.) Beautiful and charming.

-We were able to find a babysitter through and thanks to NAU's presence in town.

-Owner was responsive when we had some questions (ex. power went out one day on the entire block - he helped us figure out who to call to get updates on when it would be back, etc.)

Overall we had a great trip, and highly recommend this house.
