About Christopher Talbot
I arrived in Calgary 12 years ago and had dreamed of owning a luxury resort style log home in the mountains. I searched all the typical areas to find a suitable location, Bragg Creek, Canmore and Kananaskis Country, but found these areas very congested. What i really wanted was total privacy, complete silence and panoramic views. Fortunately a friend told me of an acreage that had a partially built log home that bordered the Rocky Mountain Forestry Reserve NW of Cochrane. As soon as i saw the property i fell in love with the possibilities. I spent a year finishing the home and included lots of exceptional features so that i could totally indulge myself as well as entertain corporate clients, friends and family.

I can’t say enough good things about this property. I guess the easiest way to explain it would be that, contrary to many places I’ve stayed, the pictures don’t do it justice. There is so much here.
We stayed with 9 people, and we spread out nicely. We enjoyed family dinner on the back deck every night, and cooked in the spacious and well appointed kitchen. There’s an amazing hot tub, outdoor fire pit, and the grounds are really beautiful. We awoke every morning to the sounds of Elk calling.
I haven’t even mentioned the “observatory,” a small one room cabin at the highest point on the property, that was really a treat. My 13 year old son stayed there, and felt like the king of the world.
You are about 70-90 minutes from the town of Banff, probably a little less to Calgary, so there will be driving involved. Also, there are no options for groceries or gas for about 20-25km, so you’ll have to pack things with you and stop at the grocery store in Canmore or Calgary before coming in. It’s absolutely worth this small hassle, though for the privacy, beauty, and solitude.
Finally, a mention about Doug, the property manager. What an incredibly kind and accommodating man. He helped us out a lot, was extremely flexible with our late arrival, and was “Johnny on the Spot” for anything we might need. The owner, Chris Talbot, has really found the right guy for the job.
In short, if it’s available for the time you’re in the area, you should stay here.
Beautiful view and impressive property
We enjoyed coming back to Wavehill after each full day of hiking in Banff--and especially appreciated the hot tub! It was a bit of a drive for us each day but worth coming back to this relaxing and peaceful property with its big night sky of stars. We encountered a herd of 40 elk not far from the place followed by cattle at the driveway entrance so take precaution if traveling at night. Really quite a special place. Would highly recommend the experience.
A wonderful retreat
If you want to enjoy this stunning part of Canada, but avoid the crowds in Banff, this is the place to be. The setting is lovely, the house well-maintained, and the view from the deck hard to beat. The hilltop "cabin" is surrounded by gorgeous wild flowers and there is plenty of hiking and trout fishing nearby. The owner and property manager are both quite responsive if anything comes up during your stay.
i love this place，hahaha，i will come back
We were 3 couples staying and it was perfect!
We cooked in several meals and we had all what was needed to prepare full course meals.
We enjoyed the hot tub and fires. We sat on the decks every morning and every evening. They was so much deck space! We loved the swing too! The views were spectacular! We could see the mountains from the deck as well as from the observatory. We spent some afternoons having wine/beer/appetizers before dinner at the deck of the observatory. We hit it just right to see the fall foliage on the Aspen trees!
It was so relaxing, peaceful, and beautiful at the cabin, that we couldn't wait to come home from a day of exploring! We also enjoyed morning hikes on the property.
We felt like we were the only people around for miles! and I think we were!
We all felt spoiled and content with our stay at your beautiful, peaceful, cabin and the wonderful exploring we did in Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Two Jack Lake, Lake Minnewanka, etc.
Can't wait to come back again, Thank you for sharing your Canadian Paradise.
Always Love Well, Melissa, David, Paul, Sandy, David and Laura
P.S. Lana was great in checking us in. The Cabin was spotless. Prompt response while booking etc. Would recommend to family and friends alike. Just remember it is about 1 1/2 hours from Banff but it was well with the drive to stay her for us. We loved the beauty and seclusion we had here.
