Wonderful getaway retreat!

We came here to celebrate my 30th birthday weekend and had a blast. The cabin itself is gorgeous and very spacious with tons of amenities. Some cosmetic work needs to be done around the house but nothing that hindered our good time. After skiing and snowboarding one day we went to the ski lodge at night where a live band was playing country and rock cover songs- big dance floor as well! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to host a big party/getaway/reunion. Thank you Sara and Brian!

An amazing weekend to celebrate my mom's 85th birthday!

The house was amazing. Everything was clean and in order, just as Brian and Sara said it would be. Their instructions were perfect. Clearly defined the rules of the house. We treated their house with respect and cleaned as we went. The kids loved the pool table and nhot tub. We enjoyed sitting on the deck with the kids in the hot tub. The house is huge with room for everyone. The kitchen had everything you need to prepare a feast. I enjoyed having my 3 older nieces help me prep a Greek meal that I had learned while visiting Greece last year. Massanutten Resort has so much to do as well. The weather as rainy on Saturday, so we simply went to Harrison burg and went bowling. Fun times! I had seen one or two reviews about no hot water. Well, let me explain one small thing, when you have a house full of people, yes hot water will take time to refill a tank. Best way is to stagger the shower times. Hot water heaters are only so big. This house was perfect!

This place was great!

  • 4 of 5

We had a large group of 15 people, all were satisfied with the property. Was nice to be close to the slopes, the weather was great and we had an awesome time. The hot tub was hot, the BBQ worked great and the pool table was well utilized. Only a few suggestions.. that the house give access to cleaning supplies as when you're traveling from afar and only staying a few days you aren't thinking about buying or bringing cleaners. There also is not BBQ brush for cleaning which was kind of a hassle, but not a huge deal. If you stay here be sure to bring toilet paper as the house only supplies 1 roll per toilet.. which is also something different from other places we've rented in the past...

I would rent this property again, we really did enjoy it.

Nice place-comfortable and spacious.

Our stay at the Grand Pine Lodge was wonderful. The home was large enough to easily accommodate our large crowd comfortably. The kitchen was stocked as it had everything we needed. The home was nicely decorated and well kept. Our favorite features of the home were the den with so much comfortable seating and the beautiful stone fireplace, the hot tub, and our very favorite thing was the kitchen table. It was so nice that we could all sit down for our meals together. The resort is great and it was such a short drive to the slopes from the house. I would definitely rent this home again.

Although we were extremely excited for our family vacation, that soon turned into disappointment. For starters, the fireplace was broken upon our arrival, and the owners never fixed it. They blamed it on the last patrons, and were not able to fix prior to our departure 9 days later. The house was filthy, from old food in the oven, to grease/hair hanging from the chandelier over the stove, to the stove being absolutely gross, mold and mildew in the master shower, and the grill being so dirty that we could not use it. Multiple light bulbs out, light fixtures that were not working, electrical outlets not working, hot water in the bathrooms downstairs not working, a secret room in the room where the bunkbeds were (children's room) with broken beer bottles, construction debris and broken light bulbs that the children could get into. This in itself was very unsafe. Closet doors falling off, and again we had four children that could have been hurt. The house was rented for 20 people, yet they only had 5 coffee mugs and 6 glasses. I guess only a few of us could drink at a time. Although we called the owners on the day we arrived, we did not get a response for 2 days. The maintenance and cleaning crew finally came out, but the cleaning crew was horrible and did not clean, and the maintenance crew were limited in what they could do. After all this, the owners Brian and Sara, refuse to refund more than just one night. We paid them 9 months in advance for 9 nights, expecting the place to be clean and everything working, or at least what was advertised and promised. Instead, the owners 2 weeks after our departure have decided to give us a refund of 10% (one night) plus the cleaning fee which is usually charged. Obviously the cleaning fee, since we had to do all the cleaning and sanitizing. Very disappointed, more so because the house could be great.

Owner's Response: Please rest assured that any guest concerns/issues are addressed promptly and completely by our property management company, cleaning company, and ourselves. Unfortunately, both of our negative reviews are from the same group and both failed to mention all the circumstances behind this negative review. The guests notified us of some "issues" that they were having upon arrival, including cleaning concern. We notified our cleaning company, who has been working for us for over 5 years, and they immediately went back up to the house to re-clean the entire house. We also had our property manager go up to the property and address any concerns they had. On top of this, brian and I also went up to the property to discuss any concerns with them and make sure they were happy with their stay. They indicated they were thrilled with the house and appreciated our responsiveness. However, after they left, they demanded we return over half of their rental amount to them or they were going to write negative reviews, and unfortunately, we felt this was completely unfair, given the amount of money, time, repairs, etc. we spent to ensure they were 100% happy. We have concluded that it was in fact not a problem with our house but rather, an attempt for them to get a free/cheap vacation.
