Great Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at this adorable cabin tucked high up in the moutains! The cabin was clean, well kept, had everything we needed, and owners were great to work with!! The bed was comfy, the fire was warm, and the views were outstanding! Would highly recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to unwind and unplug.

Great restful getaway

  • 5 of 5

Black Bear Chalet is a charming small cabin, nicely situated for privacy and serenity, well fitted out for a pleasant stay in the woods. No internet, cellphone, or satellite TV service, which for us was a plus--as well as reducing the rental cost. It's a place for a quiet getaway for two, or two with kids, or at most two couples--not for a house party. Visit to actually enjoy the woods, rather than vacationing in a multimedia cave.

Gas, meals, and groceries require some planning, so check out maps and services before arriving--you will not be able to consult Yelp or Google while you're here. I'd advise coming out with basic groceries and a cooler, and enjoying fixing your own meals--being mindful of carrying out garbage, and not attracting wildlife with open food containers. (Of course, I wish I'd seen a bear, but not if they were looking to grab my sandwich.)

The hosts have provided very detailed check-in and check-out instructions that eliminate worry; very much appreciated.

The black bear decor is a charming element of staying here, and really puts you in the mood to enjoy the woods.

A Great New Years Eve away from it all!!

  • 5 of 5

After a friend backed out of our trip to Nashville for NYE I found The Black Bear Chalet and could not have been more pleasantly surprised with the experience! We did not get into the cabin until late... We spent the day in Harper's Ferry and then having dinner with friends in near by Berkeley Springs... My friends who I told I was sending the weekend in a Cabin in the woods in Paw Paw all joked we were going to Avalon!! Once we arrived at The Black Bear Chalet we were able to open the cabin with ease and get warm!! There was plenty of firewood... After toasting in the New Year a few hours later we called it a night... Climbing in to bed the sheets and the bed were very comfortable! The shower the next morning was very warm... and plenty big enough for a cabin shower!! We went exploring the next day to Capcapon State Park and Capon Bridge for some lunch... and came back and The Black Bear Chalet just called us to have a NAP... and i NEVER NAP!!! To say that the cabin forces you to relax is beyond an understatement!! Thank you Mike and Ann for not only a great place to ring in the New Year, but also for the complete EASE in which I was able to book the property!! I cant wait to come back again!!

Cabin in the woods!!

  • 5 of 5

We have a taken a lot of family vacations post the birth of my son but this thanksgiving, we wanted to take a nice quiet holiday for just the three of us and lo and behold!, I came across this gem of a place.

Quietly nestled between acres and acres of woods, this is a perfect place to get away from it all. There is no cell reception, no tv/cable, no wifi...just peace and solace.

We arrived to find the cabin in pristine condition. Mike's detailed instructions were very easy to follow. We had the fire going in the wood stove and spent the next two days just sitting around the stove, sipping hot coffee/chocolate and just talking, while my 1 yr old played with his toys and enjoying the view from the big panoramic windows.

The morning that we were supposed to drive back, the weather was warm enough to explore the surroundings. The cabin is really remote because other than some cars going past, we didn't see anyone else.

Since the weather was cold to explore the surrounding towns and places like Paw Paw tunnel, we definitely will try and return to this place when the weather warms up.

Thank you Webers for taking such good care of the place and making our stay a truly memorable one.

The Black Bear Chalet is lovely and was exactly what my husband and I needed. The cabin is cozy and definitely off the grid (we lost cell coverage well before we reached the cabin) which was actually quite nice. My husband and I loved the wood stove and it definitely kept the place warm! Since there was no TV, Internet or cell coverage we literally played monopoly for hours, which was so much fun. We did check out the Paw Paw Tunnel on our way back home and it is so worth the trip! We would love to come back in a warmer month so that we can hike when it's not flurrying, and we definitely recommend! If you want a cozy little cabin that is off the grid than this place is perfect!

Quiet cozy getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a weekend! Perfect place to unplug. Very quaint and cozy. The foliage this time of year made for some awesome views. Mike and Ann make it very easy for their renters and are great with communication. The cabin is very clean and everything is spelled out for you prior to arrival. It was exactly what my wife and I needed, complete disconnection from the busy world. Thanks Mike and Ann, we will definitely stay again and will definitely recommend!
