We had a great stay here. The host was great and easy to get a hold of. No issues at all. We had three adults and five children ages 11, 8, 5, 3 and 4 months staying at the house. We were in Cedar Rapids for the USA Kids Nationals Wrestling Tournament. The host gave us his cell in case we had any issues, but we had none.
Let me start by saying, Elias is a great host! There was a change in the reservation due to someone staying in the original house we rented, but he moved us to his personal house, Ave it was a great upgrade! The house was clean, each bedroom (5 instead of 4) had a comfortable bed and clean bedding. There were towels plenty in each of the 3 bathrooms. And, if you need to do laundry, the laundry room was there for your use!
The kitchen was great with a big refrigerator and double oven. They're is a grill on the patio and the screened in porch was awesome!
I will be staying there when we go back next baseball season!!
Let me start by saying, Elias is absolutely a great home owner! The original house we were supposed to stay in was being occupied by a family who lost their home, so he contacted me and let me know he was upgrading us to his personal family home which was larger and had more room. The house was amazing. Multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. The house was clean, well maintained and an absolute joy to stay in.
As for Elias (the home owner), Excellent owner! Any questions I had, he responded right away, was on top of anything I asked and he was totally awesome! He was very accommodating and very hospitable!
The neighborhood is amazing. Beautiful houses all around and lots of wildlife. We saw deer and turkey every day. Sitting on the screened in porch in the morning, drinking my coffee and listening to the birds was perfect.
I can't wait to stay there again in July!!
Thanks for everything Elias! Phil...
We were in town for a wedding and had planned to stay as extended family here. The rest of the party refused to stay given the condition of the premises. As if the dead and rotting deer carcass adjacent to the front door wasn't enough...we had to do a scavenger hunt to find sheets, towels and washcloths. Beds weren't made. I could only locate 4 washcloths (for a house that sleeps 12). I did find 11 bathtowels, but some of them needed to be used for shower mats since there weren't any of those. The king bed was good, except that it's only blanket was a full/queen comforter (not even a top sheet). The sheets were so pilly they looked dirty (we washed everything before we used them.) Three of the "beds" were actually 4" mattress toppers on top of thick steel bars. If we would've needed the couches for beds, there were no bed materials for those.
NONE of the lights in the master bedroom or closets worked (and several other lights were also burned out). If it was dark, we had to use flashlights. The master bath sink was very slow draining, BUT all the toilets and showers were sparkling clean and there was enough soap, shampoo & conditioner to last through a zombie apocoplyse. We never received the garage door opener, although he did bring a key to unlock the side door...which was left open for our arrival. Good luck getting that doorknob lock to actually work with the key.
There was no trash can in the kitchen. (I'm 1/2 way through my list...RENTER BEWARE!!!!!
Our first visual upon entering was of dead bugs all over the floors and windowsills as well as debris on the stairs. There were tendrils of dirt and dust hanging from the main bedroom fan. Both washers and the dryer were full with laundry when we arrived, one of them had soured. My first four hours were spent vacuuming and washing all that laundry again as well as the sheets on the beds and towels. It did not appear clean or ready for guests. The house advertises that it sleeps 12 (we had 6). There were 6 glasses, 1 wineglass, and 4 mugs, which appeared to be covered in construction dust, so we had to wash all the plates and buy plastic glasses. There was not enough toilet paper for our stay. Additionally, the house had a one-cup Keurig coffee maker. There weren’t enough covers for 6 people, let alone 12. Having said that, we did sleep well, so the temperature in the house was nice. If the house had been clean, we could have overlooked some of the quirks (like the inflatable hot tub in the basement laundry room). When we let the owner know that the home was not clean and asked him to refund the cleaning fee, as well as reimburse us for the 50 we spent on cleaning supplies, paper towels, cups and 2 mugs (all of which we left) he became very aggressive.. As fellow owners on VRBO, his response was less than stellar. Last but not least, he never gave us a key or garage door opener, so the house was unsecured the entire time we were there. Not ready for renters!!!
We have lodged a lengthy complaint with Vrbo. This house was not as presented on the site. Do not expect that this rental will accommodate 12. There were four beds and a futon. There were only two towels. It is a house in the process of refurbishment. There is incomplete subcontract work and materials everywhere. Despite what was listed, it lacked a grill, jacuzzi, and other items. We booked a "new listing" in February, and the house was not ready for renters by May. We were not to know that, and we could not find alternative lodging once we'd recognized the rental's many shortcomings. This house had not been cleaned. We ended up doing our own cleaning on the first night, and the owner will not refund the cleaning fee. This comment box is not long enough for the problems associated with this rental. Short version: rust in the dishwasher, mold in the fridge, unclean countertops, sticky cabinet handles, broken fixtures, smell of smoke, unclean toilets, exposed wiring, piles of dirt and rock, no deck lighting, the list goes on. The owner blamed everything on the previous renters and will likely now do the same with us. He made a nominal attempt at reconciling some early problems, but eventually he decided that he'd rather accuse us of extortion. We are teachers. We wanted to celebrate our son's college graduation with other graduates and family from around the country. It is insulting to be accused of this. Trust this owner at your own risk.

Stayed 3 nights in May 2024
Response from VrboOwner on May 16, 2024
If we could submit before and after pictures here definitely would… this may have been a new listing but have been doing this for years… these are the type of people that go to a restaurant and put a hair in their meal to to get it for free.. They requested $200 worth of items such as 8 additional sets of plates for 6 guests additional blankets … along with a. Grill in which it did not come with.. knowing what type of guests these would be we offered them a refund at 3pm to allow them to stay elsewhere… keep in mind this is a 450k house and they were the first VRBO guests so they received a listing discount… not only were the extra sets of dishes missing but also 3 of the extra blankets .. they waited 2 days and requested 2 of the nights as a refund after staying the entire time. The cleaners charged 1.5 times their cleaning fee after they collected 6 bags of trash and cleaned up after them which of course they requested a refund of the cleaning fee as well… we got this review when we denied their refund request .. VRBO hosts beware.
