Apartment, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4 to 7)
This apartment is an extraordinary space which ends at the sea. If it is high tide you may imagine you are on a very comfortable boat. We've used oak, slate and stainless steel to create a quirky, high quality, meticulously designed holiday haven. A 3 metre window seat, Landsdown sofa, and rocking chair provide room to gather. A long oak dining table and soft lighting for relaxed meals. The kitchen has been designed to have views of spray and surfers as well as top class appliances. A larder, washer dryer cupboard, and hall with room for surf boards make living easy. Two double bedrooms, 1 twin/ bunk room and our 'zen beach hut' where you are lulled by waves are sleeping quarters. Two bathrooms with powerful showers (one ensuite) as well as full wi- fi, telephone with free calls, plus dozens of architectural surprises.
In 2011, St Ives was voted the top beach destination in the UK and number 6 in Europe beating all the beach resorts in Spain, France and Italy. Perhaps the reason is the sheer diversity on offer.
For families: fine golden sand, clean clear water, rock pools, and surf .
For walkers: green headlands and cliff paths skirting small coves with basking seals and dolphins.
For historians and poets : the land of the Celts where Cornish is still spoken and sung in ancient granite churches with carved mermaid pew ends. and where the trail to Land's End passes a bronze age village, standing stone menhirs and mysterious stone circles.
For sports: Thriving surf school on Porthmeor Beach, Sailing Club, Tennis, Golf at Carbis Bay, Scuba diving.
For painters:: St Ives harbour where the small fleet of fishing boats land the catch each morning.
For Artists: St Ives School of Painting with classes open to visitors.
For Art Lovers: The Tate St Ives with its gallery, workshops and coffee bar right on Porthmeor Beach. Dozens of smaller galleries, often run by artists, scattered throughout the town. The Leach School of Pottery.
For Gourmets: Porthminster Cafe on Porthminster Beach was voted 2011 Restaurant of the Year. A dozen other restaurants are in the running for elegant honest menus drawing on local produce. The harbour now boast a new place called Gourmet Fish and Chips¡--and it is worthy of the name!
For Trips out of town: All within bus, taxi or easy drive: the Eden Project, The Minack Theatre at Porthcurno. Lamorna Cove, Christmas lights at Mousehole, Truro Cathedral and the Lost Gardens of `Heligan ,
Yet none of these facts explain how St Ives tugs at the heart. Is it the clarity of light, the surface of stone, the salt smell, the sea in many moods and colours, the rhythm of the tides? Perhaps it is because surrounded by beauty, one simply feels creative. Anything is possible. Choice is almost limitless, but if you are like us, your favourite place will be the window seat at Old Saltings, glass in hand, observing the scene played out on the beach below.

Greatcomfort and taste
The apartment is unusually spacious, luxurious and pleasing to the eye. All the equipment is top of the range and nothing has been forgotten - even flowers to welcome you. The view over the beach and the sea could not be bettered. If I could I would return again and again. St Ives itself has much to offer and the apartment is in easy reach of the harbour and shopping area.
A superb and spectacular place to stay if you love the sea
Inside: a brilliantly designed and finished space with everything you could possibly want
including the kitchen you wish you had at home. I shall always remember the famous
St Ives light, the constantly changing sea and sky and some extraordinary sunsets laid out
before us. Outside: there is far too much to do and enjoy in a week - walks, trips, beaches, intriguing shops, galleries galore and lots of good places to eat seafood.
Saltings - A Totally Unique Place.
A wonderful holiday in a unique place and in an unrivalled spot next to the beach, together with good weather, what more could you want. A fantastic spot suitable for all the family whatever their requirements are.
I place you never want to leave!!
We stayed here this September and also in September 2012, we love it! I can't recommend
This place enough. Everything is first class, excellently maintained and in a superb location handy for the beach and town. We love the attention to detail in everything that has been done here. The views are amazing, spending time in the window seat just watching the waves from morning to night is so relaxing, even on a rainy day!! There are a great number of things to see and do, and we've eaten some amazing local food too. Having stayed here in 2012 there was no doubt that we could not have found a better rental in all of st ives!! so that's why we'll be back again in 2014. I am an OT and holiday with two friends who have mobility issues and I have found lower saltings to be very suitable for the less mobile. Lower saltings is all on one level and is more than spacious enough for wheelchairs to move around freely. Having looked long and hard back in early 2012 to find suitable accommodation for our friends this is the only place by far that was suitable. This is certainly the place to stay in St Ives and when people ask I would always recommend lower saltings..Go to lower saltings and I'm sure you'll have a great holiday.
Thanks so much for writing. We look forward to your return. Glad that our intention of creating a place where guests with limited mobility would feel at home in St Ives, worked.
The Best of Everything
Very hard to beat, Old Saltings is in the perfect location on Porthmeor Beach. It is beautifully designed and equipped with the best of everything you are likely to need. Whatever the weather the view of the beach and sea from the window seat is stunning and St Ives has lots to offer year round, we were there in January.
Having holidayed with friends in Upper Saltings( which is slightly bigger) for approximately 18 years it was
lovely to see the very high level of thought and finish that had gone into the new 'Old Saltings'
The Eden Project is nearby. Tate St Ives and Barbara Hepworth Museum at St Ives.
