About the property

Spacious & Comfortable With Dramatic Panoramic Views.

Casa Pergola is a once olive mill, lovingly restored farmhouse set in the beautiful Sicilian countryside. The house is a short drive to the beaches and coastal villages of the north coast. Vibrant Palermo is 30 minutes away, and the Madonie Mountain hill cities are a short drive to the east. In winter there is skiing in the mountains and beautiful nights by the fire place which is massive and romantic. Some amenities include Passive solar heated pool, in floor radiant heat and hand made shower mosaics in the bathrooms. The bedrooms are beautiful and comfortable.

Casa Pergola is a swimmers delight. A private 3.5 X 11 meter pool here at the house and beautiful beaches with ancient towers and seaside villages are a short distance away. We have a large barbecue area and outdoor dining is either under the olive trees, shade of the wisteria or on our dramatic roof terrace. A hammock under the olive trees is the perfect place to catch up on your summer reading/napping! Come and stay I guarantee you will be happy you did!

About Paul Mahoney

We, David and Paul, both come from artistic backgrounds. Paul was a potter in mid-coast Maine and David a decorative painter, created murals and hand painted furniture working throughout the United States and Tuscany. We moved to Sicily in search of something unspoiled and authentic. What we found was an amazing island steeped in history, a food culture that honors a tradition of eating fresh and in season foods, and a life style that puts 'LIVING WELL' in front of everything else (with the exception of 'La Famiglia' of course), No one loves 'family' more than the Sicilians. A Sicilian friend once warned me 'You better be careful, if you are liked the Sicilians will drag you into their family!'

Paul Mahoney purchased this villa in 2007

Why Paul Mahoney chose Sicily

This is a house for artists, romantics, gardeners and anyone who searches for natural beauty, yet wants to be close to the conveniences of urban life.

What makes this villa unique

The house is wonderfully private. Even when the house is full there are always little private spaces to go to when you need to recharge, whether it be the hammock, shaded garden courtyard or dramatic roof terrace. When our guests do have to return home they do so with some reluctance, for many of them Casa Pergola was a slice of heaven that is hard to leave behind.

A magical place

690393 - Sea, lake, mountains and a castle too

A beautiful villa, sensitively restored with every convenience one could want. It is a haven of tranquillity with beautiful views and flowers all around (in April). Paul and David couldn't have been more helpful. They left their own delicious olive oil for us and there were herbs, coffee and a couple of bottles of local wine. Although it was in a beautiful secluded spot it was not far to drive to the local beautiful town - Caccamo - with its castle and to make lots of other trips to the beautiful sights of Sicily. However, the temptation was to chill out at the lovely house. I cannot recommend the property highly enough.

Paradiso!

  • 5 of 5

What a special place. Paul and David have created a little piece of paradise in the hills of Sicily. Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect - even the weather was better than expected! Their home has been immaculately and lovingly rebuilt from the ruins of an abandoned olive mill. Their attention to detail is apparent everywhere you look, from the amazing kitchen sink to the beautiful Sicilian pottery, the comfy furnishings, the lovely terrace, and the lush gardens surrounding the house. The kitchen was very well stocked, including olive oil from their own trees. The bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable, each with it's own bathroom. We slept every night with the doors wide open, enjoying the cool night air and listening to the cow bells gently ringing as the cows grazed on the hills around the property.

We had every intention to explore the area, but we soon found ourselves so relaxed and happy at Casa Pergola that we didn't range very far. We mainly ate at home, enjoying the spectacular views down the valley as the sun set. Filippo at the macelleria in Caccamo kept us well supplied with local meat, and fresh vegetables were plentiful, including from Paul and David's gardens. Cooking and eating in such a beautiful location feels more decadent than eating out!

The physical beauty of Casa Pergola is lovely and well worth a visit (or two!) on its own, but what makes it truly exceptional are the hosts. Paul and David are so warm and inviting, and they made sure that our every wish was looked after. They're more than happy to share their wealth of information about the area, the best local wines, beaches, recipes, shops, restaurants, and more. They made us feel genuinely welcome and comfortable in their home. Brace yourselves, Paul and David. We'll be back!

Baci!

THE BEST!!

  • 5 of 5

For many reason we have had the opportunity to travel around the world, but this is the first time we felt to have been in the Paradise.

It's incredible where the House is located. To wake up every morning seeing this magnificient landscape is something we"ll never forget.

The house is so beatiful, but the best was how Paul and David were with us. Both of them are the most kindly people we ever know.

Everything was perfect, the rooms, the swimming pool, the barbecue, and all the others house's areas.

We hope to have new opportunities to come back.

It was THE BEST!

Thanks for all!

The best views imaginable

  • 5 of 5

The house is very comfortable, located on a hill side overlooking the lake and mountains. The last couple of hundred meters take you there along a steep dirt/stone road. It takes a bit of getting used to but is no problem once you are. The pool is large and whilst swimming you have the most spectacular views. Paul is very welcoming and a good host. He really adds this something undefinable extra to the whole experience. We had a great time, loved Gató the cat and will probably return!

Beautiful Sicilian Villa

  • 5 of 5

The villa is in a tranquil spot and has been beautifully renovated (and added to!) so that it seems as though it's been there forever - it has a wonderful rustic charm. There's a fabulous pool overlooking the Sicilian countryside and lake, with a well established plant and flower filled terrace where you can enjoy either the sun or shade. The views are stunning and it's very easy to relax and unwind.

Paul and David are the loveliest of hosts - they genuinely can't do enough for you and clearly want you to have a great time. They go above and beyond what anyone could expect - coming out to find us when we were lost as we arrived and then cooking dinner for us, despite the extreme hour! The next day they insisted on collecting groceries for us so we could relax by the pool - we've never encountered such kindness from villa owners before.

We've never gone back to the same place before - but feel sure we will revisit Casa Pergola!

Magnificent!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived late at night disorientated and exhausted. Paul and David could not have been more thoughtful and generous, always on hand to provide helpful suggestions. Casa Pergola is a special place of restoration and stunning beauty. Remembering the serenity of our days in the glittering pool, the children gathering sweet tomatoes, basil and rosemary from the lovely garden, the panorama of the lake and hills every morning, cooking fresh sea bass and sardines on the BBQ....will see us through the dark English winter. We hope to return as soon as possible.

What can we say that has not already been said?!

  • 5 of 5

The previously submitted reviews really encapsulate how we, too, felt about our time in Caccamo - one cannot help but smile when asked about the week we spent in Sicily. The house and location were secondary to the hospitality and friendliness shown by David and Paul. We loved the wine, the cat, the pool, the quiet (minus the odd tinkling of a goat's bell), not to mention the endless supply of freshly-picked tomatoes. A most memorable experience, and one we'll treasure.
