Overview

About the property

Spacious & Comfortable With Dramatic Panoramic Views.

Casa Pergola is a once olive mill, lovingly restored farmhouse set in the beautiful Sicilian countryside. The house is a short drive to the beaches and coastal villages of the north coast. Vibrant Palermo is 30 minutes away, and the Madonie Mountain hill cities are a short drive to the east. In winter there is skiing in the mountains and beautiful nights by the fire place which is massive and romantic. Some amenities include Passive solar heated pool, in floor radiant heat and hand made shower mosaics in the bathrooms. The bedrooms are beautiful and comfortable.

Casa Pergola is a swimmers delight. A private 3.5 X 11 meter pool here at the house and beautiful beaches with ancient towers and seaside villages are a short distance away. We have a large barbecue area and outdoor dining is either under the olive trees, shade of the wisteria or on our dramatic roof terrace. A hammock under the olive trees is the perfect place to catch up on your summer reading/napping! Come and stay I guarantee you will be happy you did!

About Paul Mahoney

We, David and Paul, both come from artistic backgrounds. Paul was a potter in mid-coast Maine and David a decorative painter, created murals and hand painted furniture working throughout the United States and Tuscany. We moved to Sicily in search of something unspoiled and authentic. What we found was an amazing island steeped in history, a food culture that honors a tradition of eating fresh and in season foods, and a life style that puts 'LIVING WELL' in front of everything else (with the exception of 'La Famiglia' of course), No one loves 'family' more than the Sicilians. A Sicilian friend once warned me 'You better be careful, if you are liked the Sicilians will drag you into their family!'

Paul Mahoney purchased this villa in 2007

Why Paul Mahoney chose Sicily

This is a house for artists, romantics, gardeners and anyone who searches for natural beauty, yet wants to be close to the conveniences of urban life.

What makes this villa unique

The house is wonderfully private. Even when the house is full there are always little private spaces to go to when you need to recharge, whether it be the hammock, shaded garden courtyard or dramatic roof terrace. When our guests do have to return home they do so with some reluctance, for many of them Casa Pergola was a slice of heaven that is hard to leave behind.

A magical place

690393 - Sea, lake, mountains and a castle too

A beautiful villa, sensitively restored with every convenience one could want. It is a haven of tranquillity with beautiful views and flowers all around (in April). Paul and David couldn't have been more helpful. They left their own delicious olive oil for us and there were herbs, coffee and a couple of bottles of local wine. Although it was in a beautiful secluded spot it was not far to drive to the local beautiful town - Caccamo - with its castle and to make lots of other trips to the beautiful sights of Sicily. However, the temptation was to chill out at the lovely house. I cannot recommend the property highly enough.

Paradiso!

  • 5 of 5

What a special place. Paul and David have created a little piece of paradise in the hills of Sicily. Everything about our stay was absolutely perfect - even the weather was better than expected! Their home has been immaculately and lovingly rebuilt from the ruins of an abandoned olive mill. Their attention to detail is apparent everywhere you look, from the amazing kitchen sink to the beautiful Sicilian pottery, the comfy furnishings, the lovely terrace, and the lush gardens surrounding the house. The kitchen was very well stocked, including olive oil from their own trees. The bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable, each with it's own bathroom. We slept every night with the doors wide open, enjoying the cool night air and listening to the cow bells gently ringing as the cows grazed on the hills around the property.

We had every intention to explore the area, but we soon found ourselves so relaxed and happy at Casa Pergola that we didn't range very far. We mainly ate at home, enjoying the spectacular views down the valley as the sun set. Filippo at the macelleria in Caccamo kept us well supplied with local meat, and fresh vegetables were plentiful, including from Paul and David's gardens. Cooking and eating in such a beautiful location feels more decadent than eating out!

The physical beauty of Casa Pergola is lovely and well worth a visit (or two!) on its own, but what makes it truly exceptional are the hosts. Paul and David are so warm and inviting, and they made sure that our every wish was looked after. They're more than happy to share their wealth of information about the area, the best local wines, beaches, recipes, shops, restaurants, and more. They made us feel genuinely welcome and comfortable in their home. Brace yourselves, Paul and David. We'll be back!

Baci!

Paradise in the hills.

  • 5 of 5

Our first trip to Sicily didn't disappoint! Having booked the Casa Pergola over the Christmas break as the most enticing property on the island from Home Away the photographs definitely didn't oversell the dream - such a wonderful restoration in a beautiful setting. OK - the access roads are challenging and not for the feint-hearted but Paul kindly met us en-route, late at night, to make sure we arrived safely, with breakfast delivered the next day so we could get our bearings before heading out.

Our hosts were charming and attentive without being intrusive and we were happy to share tales of our explorations and seek advice on local cuisine although the bbq terrace proved to be the favoured place for dining.

Whilst the weather was hot hot hot for a few days Casa Pergola had plenty of shady spots in which to relax and the inside of the property remains cool if properly managed. The lovely pool is a great place to cool off and relax with book and beverage - it was well used :-)

Paul & David are to be congratulated on creating such a perfect holiday home, the decor is stylish, comfortable and well-equipped.

We hope to return one day. Perhaps the stray dog that Paul was befriending will be cared for and part of the family by then.

Holly Molly, this place is just divine! the house, the setting, Paul and David are the hosts with the most. This villa is not to be missed and the hospitality is second to none. If you want a spot to really relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life then Casa Pergola is the place!

A Sicilian Dream

  • 5 of 5

Have you ever imagined having your very own a dream cottage in Sicily? This is it only you don't have to do the work: Paul and David have done it all for you. This lovingly restored olive mill has been transformed into a delightfully comfortable sanctuary with a perfect balance of rustic elegance. We feel immensely blessed to have enjoyed three weeks here... the pool is absolutely beautiful and as it is written, you won't want to get out. The gardens enhance the natural mountainside landscape and create a whimsical, magical space; when you walk through the gates you know you have stepped into another world, a dream of the very best kind. This is a place to sit back, smell the scented geraniums, listen to the tinkling of sheep bells on the hills, sip a glass of wine, gaze over the mosaic of hills, mountains, lake, and enjoy exploring the local towns where you will find local ricotta cheese, fresh fish, and vegetables that really do taste better grown on Sicilian soil. The kitchen is well equipped for channelling your inner Sicilian chef and Paul and David will keep you supplied with delicious olive oil pressed from their trees. Paul and David are truly incredible hosts: caring and attentive to your needs but also invisible so you have complete privacy. We savoured every day here and even though we just left, we are already missing it and looking forward to our return next year! Grazie Millie. Baci e abbracci!

Wonderful, amazing place; great hosts

  • 5 of 5

La Pergola is, if anything, better than described. If you are looking for a beautiful setting, set apart from noise, cars, congestion, with a lovely view-- lest one forget the great pool, a vegetable and herb garden, its own produce (olive oil), flowers everywhere--this is the place for you. True, you have to drive in first gear up a hill on a dirt track, but this is a very small price to pay to really get away. Paul and David are wonderful hosts, whose attitude is that all who stay at La Pergola are great people-- they have made many friends of the guests and us too! They must do something right to consistently get the rave reviews.

THE BEST!!

  • 5 of 5

For many reason we have had the opportunity to travel around the world, but this is the first time we felt to have been in the Paradise.

It's incredible where the House is located. To wake up every morning seeing this magnificient landscape is something we"ll never forget.

The house is so beatiful, but the best was how Paul and David were with us. Both of them are the most kindly people we ever know.

Everything was perfect, the rooms, the swimming pool, the barbecue, and all the others house's areas.

We hope to have new opportunities to come back.

It was THE BEST!

Thanks for all!
