Restored Olive Mill With Heated Pool

Casa Pergola is a once olive mill, lovingly restored farmhouse set in the beautiful Sicilian countryside. The house is a short drive to the beaches and coastal villages of the north coast. Vibrant Palermo "Italy's City of Culture for 2018" is 30 minutes away, and the Madonie Mountain hill cities are a short drive to the East. In winter there is skiing in the mountains and beautiful nights by the fire place which is massive and romantic. Some amenities include heated pool, and hand made shower mosaics in the bathrooms. The bedrooms are beautiful and comfortable.

Casa Pergola is a swimmers delight. A private 3.5 X 11 meter pool here at the house and beautiful beaches with ancient towers and seaside villages are a short distance away. We have a large barbecue area and outdoor dining is either under the olive trees, shade of the wisteria or on our dramatic roof terrace. Come and stay I guarantee you will be happy you did!

Absolute bliss

We loved our stay at Casa Pergola. It is very comfortable as well as beautifully thoughtfully designed, with so many unique features mostly made or created by the 2 artist owners Paul and David. Our favourite place was the pool house— perfect through the scorching hot days and the evenings. Paul was extremely helpful , making suggestions where to go, how to get places even making reservations. We could not have chosen a more wonderful place. The beauty and peacefulness of the area filled all our souls. The roads around it though are quite rough so a higher car is better. This is an incredibly special place. evening. the area in the

Wonderfully restful rural retreat

Beautiful converted olive mill. Fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. BBQ and outside dining / cabana next to the pool were ideal and much used. Paul and David were fabulous hosts. Very welcoming and responsive. A great stay!!

Relax in Sicily

An amazing villa, full of character and style. Gorgeous outdoor pool and dining area with the most lush plants and greenery , little alcoves and fantastic views of the surrounding area. Inside there is everything you could need with super comfy beds, well equipped kitchen and air conditioning. Paul and David could not be more friendly and helpful in giving great local advice on beaches to visit and restaurants. Didn’t want to leave!

Close enough to everything but away from the crowds

15 minutes from the coast in the hills with fantastic 180 degrees views overlooking Lake Caccamo and surrounding valleys. The villa has 3 spacious bedrooms with ensuites and rustic kitchen, dining lounge area with aircon. There’s a great outside entertaining area around the pool. Caccamo town is close and worth visiting. Cefalu and Palermo are also just 30 minutes away.

If you're visiting the area youd be mad to stay anywhere else?

Like every other review on here, I can't recommend this place highly enough. From the first communication with Paul, it has been faultless. The location is beautiful and it was much as we could do to tear ourselves away and explore the area as we just wanted to sit in the pool room, swim in the pool and admire the amazing views. Yes, its remote, yes the game of chicken through the tunnels is an experience but its totally worth it. Brunos meal was fab - do it if you can. We're coming back!

Something very very special!

Words alone cannot describe the beauty that is Casa Pergola. The old Olive Mill and its surroundings have been wonderfully restored and furnished in keeping with its location. The living spaces are so comfortable and well equipped with everything you would want and more and the pool area and pool house are magnificent, a must on hot sunny days. Paul and David are great hosts and are constantly on hand with anything you may need and are always happy to help, nothing is ever a bother. We had Chef Bruno come in one evening and cook us an amazing 6 course meal which was outstanding. Wine was provided along with a glass or two of his very enjoyable homemade orangecello. Everything about Casa Pergola is incredible and with the surrounding hills, lake and spectacular views you cannot ask for anything better. This is probably the most beautiful place we have stayed in.

Lovely place, lovely people

If you are reading this review after booking, keep reading. If you haven’t booked, stop reading, book this Villa, then come back to carry on reading. Like a couple of previous reviewers I secretly want to tell you to book somewhere else so Paul and David’s beautiful property is more likely to be free in the future. We’ve rented villas around Europe for many years, some basic, some good, some very good. None have been like this. Casa Pergola is stunning. Not just because of the view of the lake and mountains, the large terrace and pool or the fact Paul and David have created a stylish yet comfortable home. It isn’t even the little cupboard items that you normally have to go straight out and buy with a hired villa but are already provided here. All of those things added up really do make this a wonderful place to stay but it’s the warm welcome and care from Paul and David that set this visit so far ahead of others. The villa is down a stone track, I hired a Compact and it was fine (including at night) and Paul came to meet us at the road to guide us in after the clear instructions got us to the meeting point. He also brought over some food and wine over the first couple of days so we didn’t need to do a big shop. On our first night Bruno and Giovanni created a fantastic dining experience (so good we booked them twice more.) The food is wonderful, and it is great value for the courses and care they put into it. They are also charming and so welcoming. The villa has good aircon, a great terrace and the pictures do not do the views justice. Thoroughly recommended and the easiest five stars I’ve ever given

Excellent rural retreat

Loved the house and the amazing hospitality of the owners - nothing was too much for them. In an amazingly tranquil and beautiful spot. It's a beautiful house lovingly and careful restored - you will not be disappointed. Great pool. Highly recommend using the chef for at least one or two meals - far better than eating out. You won't find better views on the Island.....:)

Paradise

Casa Pergola is absolutely magical. We spent the week at Casa Pergola with our adult children and their spouses. It was so wonderful no one wanted to leave the property to sightsee. The views from the veranda were stunning and the accommodations were lovely and comfortable in every way. Paul and David's artistic touches were evident everywhere in the construction of the casa and the gardens. They were such gracious hosts and so attentive to our needs. It was hard to say goodbye when our time was over but we hope to return as soon as possible. Thank you to Paul and David for creating such an amazing retreat.

Heaven on Earth!

This place is perfect in every way! The kind of place you’ll want to keep coming back to every year for the rest of your life! The kind of place you’ll want to keep secret! It’s out of the way, but that’s part of what makes it great, and with everything you could need on site you won’t want to leave the house anyway. The view is spectacular, the house is stunning and impeccably decorated, the kitchen is so well set up, the beds are super comfy... basically everything is perfect. There are lots of great spots to sit outside and eat in the sun or under the shade of an olive tree. There’s a beautiful pool and an open fireplace so it doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold, you will have a great time. On top of all of that, Paul and David are the loveliest hosts and will make sure your stay is wonderful. They really go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need and more. We stayed here for my 40th with a small group of friends and it was the most special birthday ever - I can’t imagine anywhere better to have celebrated! 6 out of 5!!

If you like to really get away from it all then this is perfect!

The dirt track approach (about 15 minutes by car from the main road) is an interesting challenge but the villa has great rustic charm, everything you need and the outside works brilliantly with a large pool, areas of shade or sunshine for all times of the day and views to die for. It is therefore tempting to stay put and simply enjoy being there. Paul was extremely helpful with advice, suggestions on what to do and where to go. There is a friendly dog and cat who often joined us in the evenings. We had a great holiday. It is a memorable place; quite remote and a bit of a hike to shops, restaurants etc, so no need to venture far, just enjoy it, which we mainly did. Mosquitos and gnats were a minor issue but all in all it is a special place for a holiday

An oasis of calm with stunning views

Everything that has been said in reviews is accurate - amazing villa, well-equipped, spotless, fantastic views, dodgy road (but fine). Totally recommend it. We barely wanted to leave it for trips out but Sicily is also beautiful with lots to do and see. The one thing I would advise though is insect repellant as we were all bitten though Paul did say it was unusual and had rained the entire previous week so it may have just been unlucky and one-off. Fabulous villa, great surroundings, don't hesitate.

Heaven on a hillside in rural Sicily

We had a wonderful August week at Casa Pergola, three teenagers and two adults. Its hard to know where to begin... The host Paul led us along a dusty dirt track up the hillside and there nestled amongst mature gardens is Casa Pergola. Our main aim of our week away was to explore Northern Sicily but more importantly we wanted to spend quality time with our kids. With Casa Pergola been such a stunning setting this criteria was easy to achieve. We would start our day enjoying the views across the lake whilst sipping our first coffee. There is a herb garden to use and Olive oil pressed from the local Olive trees. We really appreciated the attention to detail from the super comfy beds, the hammam style swim towels to the beautiful Sicilian tableware to use which was in abundance. There are good supermarkets a short drive away and spent each evening cooking and eating outside. The shaded seating and dining area with lighting is lovely for enjoying the evening. The pool is a great size, everything is immaculate.. I could go on and on. We enjoyed Chefalu for beach and Pizza and Palermo for exploring the food markets and trying the local cuisine. Our kids also said it was there best holiday!!

A beautiful property, restored with real attention to detail and quality. Rustic and sumptuous at the same time. Several outdoor seating areas, a long terrace, breath-taking views, and a beautiful pool area. Paul looked after us well and added to the experience, and the pontoon boat trip / snorkelling / BBQ was a highlight, even for our four and eight year olds. We will return!

Yes, it is Exceptional!

The pictures indicate exaclty what you get: A wonderfull view, a clean & big pool you can use basically from mid-March onwards (the warmth depends on sun hours/day), a huge terrace… the view is stunning and we loved it with a fresh coffee in our hands prior to breakfast! The interior of the house is not only in perfect harmoney, it is also functional with a very well equipped and clean kitchen. What you also get in each and every of the 3 bedgrooms is a that great view and very comfortable mattrasses. Getting to your house requires some driving skills as the final part is a bumpy offroad – but we managed it with a 9 person van and so will you. You´ll get rewarded with a great house & tranquil hinterland. The travel we´ve done during our 2 weeks stay was to: Palermo (3x), Monreale, Cefalu (2x), Segestra, San Stefano di Canastra (great for pottery), Castelbuono, Caccamo and Mondello Beach (great in the off-season as not overcrowded). A tip for Palermo if you don´t want to deep dive into the city trafic: Leave your car at Forum Palermo and take the tram for 1,40€ / single ride to Central Stration (the tickets are valid for 90min for all trams & buses – take enough coins with you for the machine). From the stop walk 50m to main bus stop and take bus no. 109 to Placa Interdependence as a starting point to explore Palermo by foot. On your way back you can do some shopping for cloths & groceries in the Forum. Last but not least thanks Paul & Dave! We did experience very good B&B´s and houses in the past but what you guys have built up is amazing. And thanks so much for your outstanding hospitality! Tip: Take advantage of dinner opportunities as soften as you can. You will not regret it! Greetings from Jennecken, Germany (near Cologne)

Fabulous!

Wow! What a special place. The villa is spectacular and wants for nothing and Paul is such a fantastic host - so much thought has gone into every area of the villa. It really is a little piece of heaven! Each area is supremely comfortable and it would be very easy to spend all one's time at the villa without venturing out at all! Car is essential as the villa is nicely remote from anything (but only 5-10 mins to nearest village). We didn't want to leave and certainly want to return!! Thank you Paul!

If you want a villa with pool in Sicily and this one is free, book it quickly.

We stayed for week in July 2017, we are quite experienced summer renters in the Med and this was our best experience to date. Paul is the perfect host, the property is effortlessly stylish and the location is convenient for Palermo and yet located in a rural idyll. There is a fully functioning kitchen with hobs and an oven if you need it as well as a great supply of things like salt, herbs and oil (of course) so you don't need to stock up on these beforehand. There is also a great BBQ, and covered outdoor eating area with a lovely pool. Bedrooms, bedding and decor are all also first rate. All round we thought it pretty well perfect.

Paradise in the hills.

Our first trip to Sicily didn't disappoint! Having booked the Casa Pergola over the Christmas break as the most enticing property on the island from Home Away the photographs definitely didn't oversell the dream - such a wonderful restoration in a beautiful setting. OK - the access roads are challenging and not for the feint-hearted but Paul kindly met us en-route, late at night, to make sure we arrived safely, with breakfast delivered the next day so we could get our bearings before heading out. Our hosts were charming and attentive without being intrusive and we were happy to share tales of our explorations and seek advice on local cuisine although the bbq terrace proved to be the favoured place for dining. Whilst the weather was hot hot hot for a few days Casa Pergola had plenty of shady spots in which to relax and the inside of the property remains cool if properly managed. The lovely pool is a great place to cool off and relax with book and beverage - it was well used :-) Paul & David are to be congratulated on creating such a perfect holiday home, the decor is stylish, comfortable and well-equipped. We hope to return one day. Perhaps the stray dog that Paul was befriending will be cared for and part of the family by then. Janice, Chris, Simon & Zoe

Simply Fabulous

Holly Molly, this place is just divine! the house, the setting, Paul and David are the hosts with the most. This villa is not to be missed and the hospitality is second to none. If you want a spot to really relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life then Casa Pergola is the place!

The best views imaginable

The house is very comfortable, located on a hill side overlooking the lake and mountains. The last couple of hundred meters take you there along a steep dirt/stone road. It takes a bit of getting used to but is no problem once you are. The pool is large and whilst swimming you have the most spectacular views. Paul is very welcoming and a good host. He really adds this something undefinable extra to the whole experience. We had a great time, loved Gató the cat and will probably return!

Beautiful Sicilian Villa

The villa is in a tranquil spot and has been beautifully renovated (and added to!) so that it seems as though it's been there forever - it has a wonderful rustic charm. There's a fabulous pool overlooking the Sicilian countryside and lake, with a well established plant and flower filled terrace where you can enjoy either the sun or shade. The views are stunning and it's very easy to relax and unwind. Paul and David are the loveliest of hosts - they genuinely can't do enough for you and clearly want you to have a great time. They go above and beyond what anyone could expect - coming out to find us when we were lost as we arrived and then cooking dinner for us, despite the extreme hour! The next day they insisted on collecting groceries for us so we could relax by the pool - we've never encountered such kindness from villa owners before. We've never gone back to the same place before - but feel sure we will revisit Casa Pergola!

The most beautiful place in Italy!

We were blown away by the beauty of Paul and David's home. The setting is spectacular and the house and gardens are beyond compare. Paul and David told us that we wouldn't want to leave and they were right. Wonderful hosts who looked after us so well without being intrusive. Everywhere you look is a thing of beauty - from the stunning outdoor area, to the lovely old Italian interiors. The pool size is excellant. Every detail is wonderful. We will be back!!

We, David and Paul, both come from artistic backgrounds. Paul was a potter in Mid-Coast Maine and David a decorative painter, created murals and hand painted furniture working throughout the United States and Tuscany. We moved to Sicily in search of something unspoiled and authentic. What we found was an amazing island steeped in history, a food culture that honors a tradition of eating fresh and in season foods, and a life style that puts 'LIVING WELL' in front of everything else (with the exception of 'La Famiglia' of course), No one loves 'family' more than the Sicilians. A Sicilian friend once warned me 'You better be careful, if you are liked the Sicilians will drag you into their family!'

What makes this property unique

The house is wonderfully private. Even when the house is full there are always little private spaces to go to when you need to recharge, whether it be the spacious pool house with fireplace, shaded garden courtyard or dramatic roof terrace. When our guests do have to return home they do so with some reluctance, for many of them Casa Pergola was a slice of heaven that is hard to leave behind.
