About this property

Restored Olive Mill Heated Salt Water Pool CIN IT082014C2QHI2328E

Casa Pergola is a once olive mill, lovingly restored farmhouse set in the beautiful Sicilian countryside. The house is a short drive to the beaches and coastal villages of the north coast. Vibrant Palermo "Italy's City of Culture for 2018" is 30 minutes away, and the Madonie Mountain hill cities are a short drive to the East. In winter there is skiing in the mountains and beautiful nights by the fire place which is massive and romantic. Some amenities include heated saltwater pool, and hand made shower mosaics in the bathrooms. The bedrooms are beautiful and comfortable.

Casa Pergola is a swimmers delight. A private 3.5 X 11 meter pool here at the house and beautiful beaches with ancient towers and seaside villages are a short distance away. We have a large barbecue area and outdoor dining is either under the olive trees, shade of the wisteria or on our dramatic roof terrace. Come and stay I guarantee you will be happy you did!

We had a wonderful week staying at Casa Pergola. The location is stunning, and the house and facilities that Paul and David have built are incredible. You can tell they have really put their hearts into the house, decor, and the gardens. The outdoor spaces are large and varied, with brilliant views to the surrounding hills and the reservoir below. The weather was great for our stay, and so we spent the majority of time outside making the most of the pool, bbq, and dining area! Paul and David had to be out of town for our arrival, but they communicated well throughout and they kindly arranged for a neighbour to greet us and show us around the house. They were always on hand whenever we needed via whatsapp, whilst also maintaining privacy. As others have mentioned, as you get closer to the house, the access road becomes a gravel/earth track with bumpy and uneven sections. We found this manageable, and worth the effort for the quality of the house, but make sure to get an SUV or high-clearance vehicle and take it slow.If you're looking for a place that's a little more secluded than others, is high quality, and has great facilities, then this is a perfect place to stay. We only wish we could have stayed for longer!

A spectacular property with a great in-ground swimming pool and a beautiful view of the countryside and Lago Rosamarina. The outdoor covered living room is great for relaxation and the outdoor dining table perfect for al fresco dinners whether you cook for yourself or add on to have Chef Bruno prepare a delicious multi-course meal for you. A real gem!

We just spent 7 nights at Casa Pergola - the hosts, the house, the views, the gardens, the heated pool, the recommendations for local sites and activities were amazing. I can’t imagine there is better home to rent in Sicily. The vistas look like a movie screen. Our party had 6 adults - so nice that each bedroom had privacy and own bathroom. My only wish was that we could have stayed longer.

I don’t even know where to start. We celebrated our 11 day honeymoon in Sicily. Our stay was nothing short of amazing, honestly there are no words to explain the experience, beauty, and hospitality. Mr. Paul and Mr. David are Incredible host. The home and grounds are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It’s truly magical. Every detail throughout the home and grounds is meticulously thought out and curated to create a truly Sicilian experience. The pool and outside area is designed perfectly. We enjoyed our days by the pool drinking wine and nights by the fireside. We ventured out and explored a lot of Sicily. There are several beaches close by and each town has its own feel and vibe. We visited Cefalu, Palermo, San Vito Lo Capo, Temple of Segesta, Taormina, & Mount Etna. We are from Texas so traveling 2-3 hours to see something is not much to us. We highly recommend the winery tours. Bruno is amazing he created the best dinner it was very romantic. You need a high clearance vehicle to get around and explore. We highly recommend and are telling all our family friends you can’t go to Sicily and not stay here.

My wife and I stayed here in November 2025 along with another couple. As is noted in other reviews, the pictures don't do the villa justice and it is exactly as advertised. The road in and out (last few miles) is a bit difficult to traverse and renting a 4 wheel drive as suggested by the host is a very good idea. Other than that, the place is absolutely fantastic, including the location generally for touring around Sicily (in particular Palermo, Cefalu and surrounding areas). The villa is exceptional and fully stocked with everything required. Beyond that, the hosts (Paul and David) go above and beyond in every way, including facilitating everything you need for arrival, ensuring your every need is met and providing great recommendations for tour spots, wineries and restaurants (even making reservations). They are both amazing people and joined us a number of evenings for some wine around the outdoor fireplace. They also have a local chef they recommend for in-house dining - chef Bruno and his partner Giovanni and they are absolutely wonderful and the price is extremely reasonable (less than comparable meal at a restaurant) Probably the best meals we had in Italy were with them and we had them cook more than 4 evenings (would have been more but we did tour around a fair amount). Bruno also hosted a cooking class for us and it was brilliant. If you stay here having chef Bruno cook is an absolute must. Overall we can't rate the villa or Paul and David high enough.

The property is stunning. Paul and David have created a perfect house and garden which made for a lovely, relaxing holiday.Paul and David are excellent hosts, available with help and advice, but equally respectful of your privacy. Each bedroom has its own charm, all are very comfortable and clean. The house is well stocked with everything you could need, from spare deodorant to herbs and spices. Having the option of a meal prepared and served by Bruno and Giovanni is a real treat, we had a lovely dinner to celebrate my 50th. Do ensure you have an SUV and purchase the extra insurance as the “road” to the property is very bumpy, but it adds to the experience! The pool and outdoor lounge area are stunning. Gecko watching in the evening with a glass of wine was bliss! A simply perfect holiday location!

Wow wow wow. Firstly, Paul and David were the most amazing hosts, attentive, kind and providing recommendations for restaurants and shops, even making us a wonderful homemade pesto. The villa is amazing, homely, comfortable, beautifully furnished and has everything you need. The pool area is stunning, with cozy areas to soak up the incredible views. We had Chef Bruno cook for us one evening and what a treat that was! Caccamo is a wonderful old town which had a festival when we were there. The people are very friendly but bring your phrase book as very little English is spoken. Recommend an SUV to get around. We would love to return to the villa! Thank you to Paul and David for making our visit such an amazing experience!

Our week at Paul and David’s restored olive mill in Caccamo was nothing short of magical. As first-time visitors to Italy—and traveling with two young children—it was the perfect introduction to Sicilian life. The home itself felt like it belonged in Architectural Digest: timeless, beautifully renovated, and designed with care. Every room was immaculately clean, well-appointed, and perfectly suited for our party of eight, including two kids. The pool was stunning, the amenities were thoughtful, and the rooftop terrace became one of our favorite places. Hanging laundry there felt poetic, with panoramic views of Lago Rosamarina, sheep bells echoing in the valleys, and golden light pouring over the hills. Even the mundane became memorable. As American expatriates, Paul and David were a godsend—attuned to our needs, always quick to respond, and full of incredible local recommendations for restaurants, shops, and historic sites. Their hospitality was warm, generous, and truly above and beyond. Sharing a glass of wine with them felt like catching up with old friends. This home was more than a stay—it was a soul-filling experience. Our children thrived, we slowed down, and we left already dreaming of our return. Paul and David didn’t just host us—they became part of our story.

Our stay was amazing. The views could not be any better. The pictures do not do the house or the views justice. Every detail of the house was decorated and designed to perfection. Paul and David were accommodating in every way from helping us with attractions, directions, or just checking in to see if we needed anything. One evening I was looking for gluten free pizza for my son and they were so kind and bought my whole family pizza. If we needed anything, they came to bring it to us in a matter of minutes. They shared their delicious vegetation with us and even gave us the olive oil that was from their olive trees. They truly made us feel like we were a part of their family. Absolutely an amazing stay! Highly recommend

Our week at Casa Pergola was nothing short of magical. My wife and I, along with another close couple, stayed seven days and were blown away by the beauty, comfort, and hospitality. Paul and David are exceptional hosts—warm, attentive, and never intrusive. Paul met us at the main road and guided us in personally (tip: rent an SUV or 4WD for the final stretch). The villa is a beautifully restored 15th-century olive mill, spotless and full of charm. The grounds are immaculate, the views over the Sicilian hills and Lake Rosamarina are stunning, and the heated pool—adjusted to our exact preference—was perfect for lounging and relaxing.A highlight was dinner by Chef Bruno, who prepared a gourmet Sicilian meal right at the villa. Absolutely unforgettable!Whether you’re exploring nearby Cefalù and Caccamo or just soaking in the tranquility of the property, Casa Pergola offers a five-star experience from start to finish. Paul and David accommodated every request, including a last-minute airport transfer, with ease and joy.We left relaxed, grateful, and already planning our return. Highly recommended!

A true hidden gem: Art, beauty and heart in the Sicilian hills

Casa Pergola is a true hidden gem, exceeding even my wildest expectations! This charming home is more than just a villa; it's a living art piece. Perched high in the hills of Caccamo, this beautifully restored 15th-century olive mill is a testament to Paul and David's passion and artistry. Paul and David have poured their heart and soul into creating an artistic oasis, filled with beauty, comfort, and meticulous detail – truly, no stone was left unturned. While the journey off the beaten path is for the adventurous, the reward is immeasurable; I never wanted to leave. The villa served as a fantastic base for exploring western Sicily. However, the highlight of our stay was undoubtedly connecting with the incredible hosts, Paul and David – two truly amazing people we feel blessed to have met. And for an unforgettable culinary experience, be sure to have Bruno cook for you. His meals were another highlight of our stay at Casa Pergola. We can’t wait to come back again and again!!

Paul is A... couldn't be kinder, and an extremely gracious host. Casa Pergola is a true Italian experience. The kids were in the heated pool everyday, thanks to lovely weather, which gave the adults time to relax and enjoy Italian wine and the beautiful vistas. Renting a 4 wheel drive is a must. All things considered, not perfect but still great.

My wife and I stayed a week and really enjoyed the property. The outdoor spaces in particular are awesome. Spacious, varied, shaded, sun, views from everywhere, lovely garden and plantings. The house itself is well done and equipped, cozy but kind of small. I would recommend putting screen doors (yes I know they don't exist in Europe) on the doors so you can get fresh air without leaving them wide open to the creatures and insects. Lastly, the roads leading to the house are pretty rough, and an SUV with a little extra clearance would be wise. The roads also add time to wherever you want to go. Just remember, you are not walking to town, and it is 15 minutes to drive to any town, so if you like convenience over privacy, this may not be the one for you. But it really is a great spot, and definitely have Bruno cook you dinner. Worth every Euro.

Our relaxing accommodation for 10 days in Sicily was nothing short than a piece of paradise. Accommodation beautifully renovated with decor that complimented the old style olive mill. Beds exceptionally comfortable! Surrounding gardens a delight to explore. However, our hosts were beyond super! We loved our stay at Casa Pergola. It is very comfortable as well as beautifully thoughtfully designed, with so many unique features mostly made or created by the 2 artist owners Paul and David. Our favourite place was the pool house— perfect through the scorching hot days and the evenings. Paul was extremely helpful , making suggestions where to go, how to get places even making reservations. We could not have chosen a more wonderful place. A Remarkable Place

We spent a week at Casa Pergola with our two teenagers and had the most wonderful time! We arrived to Paul and David helping us with our luggage and walking us through the amenities of the beautiful home and expansive garden and pool. The views are absolutely breathtaking and you immediately feel that you’ve escaped to somewhere very, very special. As hosts, Paul and David leave nothing to be desired…the house is extremely well-stocked with all that you need, including wine and coffee. They also helped us book reservations at wonderful local restaurants as well as offered insightful advice for excursions. If there was any small thing we needed, they were prompt to respond. Truly exceptional hosts! Also, we followed others’ advice and booked two nights of dinner by Bruno and Giovanni. If you enjoy gourmet dining, THIS IS A MUST DO! The food and presentation are five-star, knock-your-socks-off caliber, not to mention they are both delightful to talk to. Overall, staying at Casa Pergola imprinted on our family in a big way. We will be back, for sure!

About the host

Hosted by Paul Mahoney

Host profile image
We, David and Paul, both come from artistic backgrounds. Paul was a potter in Mid-Coast Maine and David a decorative painter, created murals and hand painted furniture working throughout the United States and Tuscany. We moved to Sicily in search of something unspoiled and authentic. What we found was an amazing island steeped in history, a food culture that honors a tradition of eating fresh and in season foods, and a life style that puts 'LIVING WELL' in front of everything else (with the exception of 'La Famiglia' of course), No one loves 'family' more than the Sicilians. A Sicilian friend once warned me 'You better be careful, if you are liked the Sicilians will drag you into their family!'

Why they chose this property

This is a house for artists, romantics, gardeners and swimmers. Really anyone who searches for natural beauty, a place to decompress, to breath, to be rejuvenated. Casa Pergola is perfect for anyone who wants to reconnect with loved ones. For those seeking an authentic urban experience, Palermo which was "Italy's City of Culture for 2018", is just 30 minutes away. Your time here will be unspoiled and as private as you wish.

What makes this property unique

The house is wonderfully private. Even when the house is full there are always little private spaces to go to when you need to recharge, whether it be the spacious pool house with fireplace, shaded garden courtyard or dramatic roof terrace. When our guests do have to return home they do so with some reluctance, for many of them Casa Pergola was a slice of heaven that is hard to leave behind.
