Kentigern - Beach House with Penthouse views of Chesapeake Bay

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 6 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 9-11)

Savor dramatic penthouse views in your own private beach house. This light-filled four-story house offers the best in outdoor luxury living. Surrounded by glass and balconies on every level, Kentigern provides bedrooms with private balconies and great gathering spaces, all in one home. Enjoy the fun of your group and then retreat to your own space. Fall asleep to the sound of waves in the background. Wake up to fabulous sunrises over the Chesapeake Bay. This is a house you won’t want to leave.

Kentigern is sited on its own 2 acre sandy lot with a beach at the south end. For the adventurer, 2 kayaks on premise are provided for guest use. Kayak directly on the Chesapeake Bay or in the quiet solitude of one of the creeks where you and the herons may be the only guests. This house is an away destination: Herons are joined by osprey, bald eagles, pelicans and the occasional dolphin or two.

Scotland is steeped in history, too. St. Mary’s City, 10 miles away, is the original capital of Maryland. The area dates back to the 1600s and was one of the early colonies. Only 80 miles away is the nation’s capital, Washington, DC – if you can drag yourself away from the beautiful beach setting. Point Lookout Park, a Civil War POW camp and now a large park and campground, is only a short bike ride away. Nestled between the Bay and the Potomac River, the Park is worth an expedition.

Return to Kentigern again and again.

Great property! Great views!

  • 5 of 5

Great views of the Chesapeake bay. Great beach for the kids. Kayaks were easily accessible and easy to launch from the beach. House is an architectural masterpiece, every day we found something interesting in the design and furnishings. Elevator is used a lot to get things to all four floors. Bring plenty of bug spray for the rare occasion the wind is calm. Loved it!

Our 3rd trip to Scotland and we still find the place magic!

  • 5 of 5

Although for 2 days the weather was less than ideal for serious beach time, we thoroughly enjoyed watching how it changed the Bay and the beach - at times the water sparkled like diamonds and later would be frothy with whitecaps crashing the shoreline.

During that time it was perfect for curling up on the sofa with a good book and still able to enjoy the view from those floor to ceiling windows!

Beautiful property

The house was beautiful. We were here for a wedding at Woodlawn and it couldn't have been better. We were very convenient to the venue. The house had so many amenities and the view is gorgeous.

Another Lovely weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This was out fourth time renting with Scotland Yards Rentals, but the first time at Kentigern. We stayed at the Kentigern Shed 2 years ago and were always curious about the bigger Kentigern next door. The pictures do not do not convey how lovely Kentigern actually is! The kitchen had everything we needed and the water views on every floor could not be beat. We love how relaxing and quiet things are, hence why we keep returning every year!

Dirty and under stocked

  • 2 of 5

We love coming here with our friends for a great long weekend ,

But , there was trash under a bed and the floors were dirty. You wanted us to start a load of wash but there was no laundry soap.

Not enough bath towels, no Windex you have a glass dining table.

No tissues. Just is missing that luxurious feel. We stayed in many of your homes and love them.

Owner's Response: We try very hard to listen to all our guests' perspective so that we can continually make our properties better, but we take exception to this rating. Particularly, because this guest never called our property managers to remedy any concerns they had. Please allow us to address these issues individually but - first - to begin by noting as mentioned above that we have local property managers. Their names and phone numbers are listed prominently on the welcome letter. So, if guests find insufficient laundry soap or other such issues, they are welcome to call and get a quick resolution. Then to supplies: We provide our guests with so much more than the vast majority of vacation rentals, including bath gel, hand soap, shampoo, dish soap, dishwasher pods, paper towels, toilet paper and laundry soap. In other words - all the basics. However, we cannot possibly provide every product that any particular guest might wish to have. As for running out of laundry soap, we try to anticipate supply shortages but if a guest runs out of a basic, they are welcome to call. However, we note that if a guest chooses to use 20 rolls of paper towels, as an example, at some point the responsibility beyond reasonable use becomes theirs. Next to towels. We note that this was a 2-night rental. We provide hand towels, washcloths bath towels. We provide every guest with a bath towel plus at least an extra or two per bathroom. And, access to a washer and dryer. Again, if for any reason, fewer towels than that were in the house, a phone call is all that is needed to remedy the situation. Next to cleaning. We hire professional cleaners after every rental. We note that is is quite possible that a cleaner might miss "trash" under a bed if they didn't get down on their hands and knees. Nevertheless, we apologize. As for the floors not being clean, they are mopped or vacuumed, whichever is appropriate, before every new guest. Perhaps these guests were concerned about the light/near-white stone floor on the living floor level. By its nature, that floor absorbs stains and has some discoloration. It's never going to look completely white but that does not mean that the floor has not been cleaned. We've looked for a way to seal the floor but have not found any product that will do so (including calling the manufacturer). Actually, we don't mind the look. Our rates are reasonable for the services provided. We will keep listening and try to strike the right balance.
