PLEASE VISIT OUR OTHER TWO OCEAN FRONT PROPERTIES IN RODANTHE: VRBO # 584841 AND 426760.

Beverly & I grew up in central North Carolina, but we've called Hatteras Island our second home. 'Rose Cottage' is just steps away from the sandy beach. One of our favorite things is sitting on the porch watching the dolphin (yes, we see them just about every day) and of course the sunrises and sunsets. On the main level is the great room, full bathroom, washer/dryer, dining area and full service kitchen. (There is a Keurig Coffee maker and a 10 cup Mr. Coffee at Rose Cottage). The sliding glass door near the dining area leads to the back deck with picnic table. The front deck has a porch swing overlooking the ocean and several benches. All three of our bedrooms are upstairs, the master has a king bed with connecting bathroom and a view of the ocean. Another bedroom, very spacious with a queen bed, has two windows with a view of the ocean. The third bedroom has a queen bed. While staying at our cottage, exploring is a must. Hatteras Island is simply the most beautiful place on earth - where the Atlantic Ocean and Pamlico Sound is separated by a thin, fragile slice of land. Hatteras Lighthouse, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, small villages of Avon, Buxton, Waves, Frisco and Salvo are all within a short drive.

In Rodanthe, explore the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Museum, Civil War Battle of Chicmacomico Races, and try to identify each of the over 400 species of birds. Or simple lay back and enjoy reading and watching the surf.

FREE Wireless Internet access via Silicon Travel for this property (computer not provided, bring your laptop).

FULL CONCIERGE SERVICE: Grocery shopping, dinner delivery, in-home catering and chef services, party planning, activities planning, mid-stay cleaning available through our Property Management Company, Shore Details.

PROPERTY DAMAGE PROTECTION: No security deposit is collected. Over years of renting our property, we have found guests prefer to pay a Property Damage Protection fee ($69) which covers all accidental damages to the vacation rental up to $2,500.

About frank henson

Frank and Beverly are the proud owners of 'Rose Cottage' as well as two other properties closeby. We have been vacationing/living on the outer banks for years and will retire in Rodanthe someday. It is the perfect place to be. Both Frank and Beverly are NC licensed builders. Frank retired from the US Marine Corps. We have three Brussels Griffons, Frankie, Annie Rose, and Scout - they always travel with us to the Outer Banks.

frank henson purchased this cottage in 2012

Why frank henson chose Hatteras Island

The Outer Banks has been our favorite vacation spot for years. This is the third, and most recent, property we have bought in this area (The others are VRBO #426760 and #584841, a short walk down the beach). It's easy driving from our home in Greensboro, NC. It's close to great restaurants, shopping, golf, sightseeing yet very remote and very casual. Also, the Outer Banks is routinely rated in the top five US beaches by US News, National Geographic, ABC News and CBS News.

What makes this cottage unique

Sitting on the front porch in the evening while enjoying a glass of wine or ice tea, feeling the ocean breeze while watching late surfers and swimmers has become our most treasured time. Early in the morning, we'll catch up on news and sports via wifi while sipping coffee and snacking on delicious pastries.

Seven wonderful nights in Rodanthe

  • 5 of 5

We all had a great time at Rose Cottage! And yes, I had to watch the movie Nights in Rodanthe while I was there.

Our thanks to Frank and Beverly for allowing us to rent for the week. We had great weather, it did rain here and there, but moved out quickly. Beautifully decorated, shabby chic (my favorite) and the attention to detail, right down to the glass beads on the blind pulls! I wanted to find those to put on my own, but time went by so fast there wasn't time to shop for them.

The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. The only disappointment was to find dirty knives in the drawers. ( I know it's hard to find good help. )

We were up early to see the sun rise and my daughter and her husband tried to be the first on the beach to find that perfect conch shell. Our dog Gizmo loved chasing the crabs. Our granddaughters had a great time walking the beach and shelling and of course shopping.

I recommend the Top Dog Cafe to eat. We got shrimp and steaks from from Waves Seafood and Steaks to cook on the grill that were awesome!

As we were leaving, we all had tears in our eyes 😢 We are already talking about coming back next year, maybe for two weeks!

Owner's Response: We appreciate very much the nice and comprehensive review written on Rose Cottage. We are most happy your full experience was a pleasant and memorable one.....also, pleased that your special "Gizmo" was not left at a kennel and that your dog spent time chasing the crabs. Shelling is something we always have time for when we're in Rodanthe....so amazing! Beverly does all of the decorating , and she has a special talent and devoted interest in making Rose Cottage a wonderful place for guests to spend their hard earned vacation. Please return to the Outer Banks, Rodanthe and Rose Cottage soon!

We try so hard to make this small cottage special, and your comments will help others decide whether or not to visit Rose Cottage and Rodanthe....both very special places. Take care and hope to see you back again soon.

We will miss the Rose Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it here! Upon arriving we found the cottage welcoming and clean. The kitchen has everything we needed , the fridge was spotless! The first few days were very windy but when the weather calmed down we spent every day at the beach. It was great to have our own private path to the beach..literally steps away from the beach. The decorations were so cute and felt cozy like home. Solar lighting so you could see outside at night. We spent every evening on the porch for "happy hour". Our labordoodle's first time to ocean......she loved it. All we had to bring is clothes and food, the kitchen had everything we needed. Little store at the end of the block had everything you need , including the best breakfast ever. The Rose Cottage will be a wonderful memory for us. Frank the owner was very responsive and helpful with any questions. Sad to say this is our last day.....back to the real world.....this was so peaceful and relaxing.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to write a very nice review of Rose Cottage. Our Property Manager does an exceptional job of cleaning and maintaining the property in perfect order for our guests....we are so thankful of them...when things aren't perfect, they always make things right///never making excuses why this or that wasn't done right....the "little" store you referred to is Liberty Convenience....very local and very convenient with great provisions...of course, a Food Lion is about 15 miles south in Avon for a bigger selection. Thanks also for mentioned "Frank" being helpful....a native of NC for 67 years...always trying to help folks visiting to the Outer Banks and "suggesting" nice to know things, etc. Please plan a return visit some day!

Scenic, Delightful, & Charming

  • 5 of 5

We ABSOLUTELY loved the Rose Cottage. The morning sunrises over the Atlantic from the master bedroom were picturesque and breathtaking. The dancing sea oats out front were almost conversational as you walked the short oceanfront path lined with nautical posts and rope. Enchanted from the moment we pulled up, our kids were often found in their imaginary play world beneath and around the cottage. Currently writing a pirate-themed book, I often found myself looking up from my dalliance with the keyboard, delighted to see dolphin at play outside the den window. The Rodanthe Pier is only a short ten minute stroll from the front door. The interior was very comfortable with the essentials provided. Just across the street is the Liberty Convenience store and gas station. Nags Head is a short thirty minute drive. What a perfect place to stay on Hatteras Island. Booking the cottage was a very efficient process. Mr. & Mrs. Henson were very responsive, gracious, and hospitable. We will be returning again very soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the very nice, descriptive review. We can tell you are a writer...and we would love to purchase and display your book on "Pirates" once finished...please keep us in mind. So very right about the sun rises, sea oats and Rodanthe Pier...Rose Cottage is also kid friendly as described...so much imagination on the beach! Thanks also for mentioning Liberty Convenience (right down the street)...we also venture to the Dollar General for quick pick ups. We are very happy you found Rose Cottage to be right for you and your family...plan to return anytime.

Rose Cottage is a gem!

  • 5 of 5

Many thanks to Beverly and Frank for allowing us to stay at Rose Cottage. My adult daughter and I, along with our dogs, spent a peaceful, relaxing week in late January. The kitchen is tidy and well stocked with any kitchen item you may need. We cooked all of our meals during our stay and not once did we reach for something that was not there. Watching the sunrise from the windows on the comfy furniture was a delightful treat on the cold mornings, but when the day warmed up, the beach was steps away. Seashells were plentiful and we were able to watch the dolphins swim along the shore each day, even from the porch. Rose cottage is a gem!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking time to write a very nice review....our favorite time of the year at Rose Cottage....wildlife, seashells are abundant. We have even seen whales that time of year! Rose Cottage is a gem and we were very lucky to find it and turn it into a VRBO rental property....designed and suited especially for small families. Thanks also for pointing out that the kitchen is equipped for perfect meals....lots of folks prefer to do all of their cooking "at home" and it's important to be ready/prepared for guests to do just that....we welcome you back to Rose Cottage and the Outer Banks soon.

Beautiful. Thoughtfully decorated, I took photos of many details before leaving.

Private walkway to the beach which is very close. Lovely porch swing. Well equipped kitchen. Fantastic views of the ocean. We don't want to leave and we will certainly be back, for a longer stay next year.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to write a very positive review on Rose Cottage. We love that you mentioned the porch swing, as that is one of our favorite amenities...we have two other ocean front properties in Rodanthe and each has a porch swing, even though we replace them about every other season due to the elements. The short private walk to the ocean is also a nice plus for Rose Cottage. We try very hard to re-think everything for what a guest might expect/want upon arriving at our property. The kitchen is important, as you mentioned, but also the living area, bedrooms, dining and on and on. We evaluate each of our properties every season and always try to put ourselves in the position of a traveler. Thank you again for you comments and hope to have you back soon.
