La Tortuga Azul was everything we hoped it would be and more! We stayed for 10 days and also rented 'The Cottage' for our group of 9. Both houses were beautiful, clean and had everything we needed. We'll definitely be staying here again!
Our stay at La Tortuga Azul was everything we could have hoped for and more! The house was spacious, clean and had everything that we needed for our stay, and the pool is fantastic (we spent every morning and evening enjoying it). The property is close enough to the downtown area, that you can simply bike everywhere, but far enough away that you aren't being kept up at night by loud music and talking from the bars. Perfect location on a quiet street.
The property's staff is top notch too! Any question we had, they immediately helped us with, from bike rentals to ordering extra jugs of water for the house. They were prompt, curteous and went out of their way to make our time there as carefree as possible. They even delivered our bike rentals to us so that we didn't need to walk to the rental office, and they set us up with taxi reservations for our departure so that we wouldn't have to worry about it on our last day.
I would recommend investing in some bug spray, as the mosquitoes love to pop out and nibble on anything they can get their hands on, and I would also recommend renting bikes for your stay.
Over all, we could not be any happier with our stay. The only disappointing part of our trip was when we had to go home. Thanks for a wonderful time!! We would return in a heartbeat!
I don't even know how to start my raving about this trip. I guess it would be with the house itself. What an amazing house! We stayed for 15 days and I could have stayed for the rest of my life. The house is beautiful, fully stocked, and like being at home only on an amazing tropical island. Caye Caulker in and of itself is a paradise with wonderful people. The first few days we were there was the end of the monsoon season so we spent a lot of our time in the house and I can't think of a time when I have been so happy to be inside reading, sleeping, watching movies. I enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the rain and then when the rain stopped, watching the bats and birds! The pool was always clean and available for all but two days to just us. Anytime we needed water, clean towels or sheets, beer even, it was there within no longer than an hour during reasonable hours. Michael, Ceci, Alfonzo, and everyone else that worked with Michael were wonderful and always kind and pleasant. They even remembered my name and used it with every interaction. My only criticism of the house would be the loft. It was so hot that it became impossible to sleep in except between about 2am and 5am, even with the ceiling fan. Three of the people on the stay had to squeeze into the upstairs room that had two twin beds with one person taking the cushions off of one of the couches to sleep on the floor. But not one of those folks complained because everything else about that house is phenomenal!
I didn't have a whole lot of interaction with the owners over the year I was making payments but Amanda and James gave me a discount because I booked so far ahead and stayed for a long time. I really only communicated with Amanda and for the most part she was incredibly helpful and gracious. I would definitely recommend this house to EVERYONE! In fact, myself and a couple of family members that were on the trip with me are considering having our next family reunion on Caye Caulker and would LOVE to be able to book the house as one of the places to stay. My favorite activities were fishing, snorkeling, and best of all, the sunset sail on the second night of the super moon with Ragamuffin Tours. Our favorite tour guides were French Angel and Ragamuffin. And PLEASE use Max for taxi service! He is the most wonderful human being ever and his phone number is in the book at the house!! I highly recommend Paradiso, Maggie's, Meldy's, and Rose's for food. Go Slow!
We stayed here for 6 nights and had a fantastic time. It is very close to the airport, so a bit of a walk to town. It took me about 20-25 min to walk to the split. At night we would get a taxi and for the 5 of us, it was $20 belize each way which was reasonable we thought. Our kids LOVED the pool. I didn't realize the pool is shared with a small cottage, but they were a nice group of people (hopefully not too traumatized by our kids!) and we all got along. The house is beautiful and well stocked with the basics--toilet paper, etc. Ample towels for the pool/beach and for the shower. We had plenty of room and enjoyed hanging out on the pool deck, as well as the upstairs porch. We used the AC sparingly, but was nice to have for the nights. Michael is the manager and was amazing. An incredibly friendly person and very helpful with recommendations and little things like fixing a really squeaky bedroom door. Now it is smooth to open! Caye Caulker was a wonderful place to vacation--I like areas where one can mingle with the locals and it isn't tourist central. CC is what it was like when we went to San Pedro 15 years ago. I would definitely stay here again and probably rent a bike next time, although the taxi system worked fine for us. The restaurants would call our driver --we used Max, who is on the list provided at the house, and he was fantastic.
This was the second time we have stayed in this home in two years. We love this home, it is roomy, comfortable and clean. We love that they have added palm trees on the pool deck for some shade. It is in a great location. The only down side for us is the cost of renting bikes each day. We were there for two weeks and it really adds up.
Have been to Belize over a dozen times, this is our first time staying in Caye Caulker. This is the way San Pedro used to be - laid back, sand streets and delightful in every way. The home was perfect for our needs - Grandma, Mom, Dad and three girls 7, 9 and 11. They loved the pool and their privacy upstairs! The house has all the amenities you would expect - plenty of seating hanging out at home in the evening watching DVDs. Mr. Michael, as the girls called him, is helpful for anything needed - golf cart, bicycles, activities (the house didn't need a thing!). A charming host! We loved our time here, and were sorry to leave.
