House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
Casa de los Sueños is a 3 bedroom/2 bath home on 13 very private, quiet and secluded acres nestled beside a rainforest reserve in the Escaleras Mountains. The property offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. View year round breath taking sunsets over the ocean from two of the three bedrooms, the great room and pool patio, since the back of the house faces due west. The house sits 1000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by lush rainforest and tropical gardens. Much of the terrain was reforested with native Costa Rican hardwoods, and fruit and flowering trees. There are ample opportunities to spot wildlife on the property such as toucans, white faced-monkeys, howler monkeys, coati, two- toed sloths, the rare ant-eater and the stunning morpho butterfly.
The property has its own private “above the rainforest canopy” observation platform 100 feet above the jungle floor in a majestic Ceiba tree with a girth of around 35 feet at its base and about 12 feet at the level of the platform. The ancient Maya of Central America believed that a great Ceiba tree stood at the center of the earth, connecting the terrestrial world to the spirit world above. The platform can be reached by single rope climbing technique with a hired professional guide. The guide will train you with the skills you will need for this amazing, rewarding and fun activity. Arrangements can be made at the time of reservation for your private platform climbing adventure tour.
The three bedrooms are air conditioned and will comfortably sleep six. The great room includes the dining room, living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and wet bar. A laundry room with washing machine and dryer is located off the kitchen. The house has all new furnishings, Satellite TV service, WiFi internet service, DVD and CD players. The master bedroom suite has a king size bed and sliding glass doors to the pool and patio. It also has a large bathroom with shower and a Jacuzzi bathtub. Another full bathroom is conveniently located between the other two bedrooms, one with queen bed and the other with two twin beds. Housekeeping service is provided once a week, as well as a full time caretaker/gardener six days a week. There is also a large gate at the entrance to the property.
The house is less than 4 kilometers south of the village of Dominical. Located in a very unique region of Costa Rica where the mountains meet the sea, Casa de los Sueños is about 2 kilometers up into the Escaleras Mountains. Therefore, a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.
Whether you choose to go tree climbing or enjoy the many activities available in the area, you will certainly not be disappointed with your stay at Casa de los Sueños.

Spectacular as described!
Beautiful property with a gorgeous pool. House is well maintained, very clean, and decorated nicely. Perfect size for our family of five, and close to many good restaurants. Would definitely stay here again.
Thank you Richard for your very kind review! We always love to hear from our guests. We are so very lucky to have a great team that cares for Casa de los Sueños. Gerardo and his wife, Yorleny, are amazing. Gerardo is the caretaker and is a very, very nice man. He likes to have conversations with guests if possible. He only speaks Spanish but somehow many guests manage to converse with him. Yorleny oversees the cleaning and supplies of the house. We are very fortunate to have her on the team as well since she is so meticulous and caring. Silvia is very helpful for all of our guests and Massi as well. Adriano is behind the scenes making sure that the house is working as it should. Jim and I like to learn about what our guests did during their stay because we like to go try the same thing if we haven't had a chance to go there yet. The view of the Pacific and year round sunsets are a great bonus. Thank you again Richard and we hope you will visit Casa de los Sueños again!!!
We so enjoyed our stay here! The view with the bougainvillea is a picture-perfect setting. We hardly wanted to leave for day trips but we did enjoy Playa Matapolo and one after went to Agua Termales (hot springs) on the bumpy 8 km road but we’re almost alone there in the 35 deg pool. The ride through the rainforest was amazing. The house was very clean! Also the muffin pans were so appreciated as we made fresh pina colada muffins to enjoy with our patio java!
Thank you so much for the nice review Linda! I think it's amazing that you mentioned the beautiful view with the Bougainvilleas because that is one of my favorites too. I have that photo as my wallpaper on my cell phone so I can appreciate it every day. Jim and I bought the house and surrounding properties to ensure that it would have the privacy that we preferred and so many of our guests appreciate as well. I have said this many times, we can't say enough how much that we appreciate the Casa de los Sueños staff. They are very meticulous about the cleanliness of the house and we feel very lucky to have them as our friends. I'm glad to hear too that the muffin pans had some use. We try to keep the house well stocked for our guests. Thank you again for the review! Best, Tracy
The other reviews speak for themselves. One of the best locations in Costa Rica, many attractions and activities. When your day is finished you come back to a secluded private oasis. Perfect get away for a large family or multiple couples trip. Will return again!
Thank you for the great review Stewart! We are so happy you had a nice stay. Also thank you for sending us a photo of the two of you, we love hearing about what our guests are enjoying in Costa Rica. I have always felt that the privacy and large property of Casa de los Sueños is so magical and inviting. One of our goals when purchasing the 3 connected lots was to make a large, very private compound. As a bonus, all of the forested areas on the property attract many animals and birds. Plus, Jim and I had hundreds of fruit and flowering trees and native hardwood trees planted on the property. Please come back in the future and enjoy Casa de los Sueños. Thanks again! - Tracy
perfect combo of jungle, mountain, and ocean
Family of four with with high school age kids all enjoyed the house and the area. our vacation was a great mix of adventure and beach relaxation. it was really interesting staying on a mountain in the middle of a jungle - felt adventurous but with all the comforts of a great house. even though we enjoyed the isolation, we were only a short drive to the cute town of Dominical and many interesting beaches. we enjoyed the diversity of the beaches - some were more touristy which has the benefit of restaurants, bars, shopping all within walking distance versus the locals beaches which opened us up to the culture. the only issue we had was a defective 4wd vehicle so after some rain we got stuck going up the mountain and had to get towed. when we changed out the car for a new one, we had no problems getting up with 4wd even in the middle of a torrential downpour. make sure you have 4wd!
Thanks for the great review! We're happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed the quiet and privacy of Casa de los Sueños and still so close to everything. Our property is located at about in the middle of the area named 'Costa Ballena' which includes Dominical, Uvita-Bahia and Ojochal. Costa Ballena is very popular with beautiful beaches, waterfalls and great restaurants. There are many great things to do in Costa Ballena as well such as fishing tours, horseback riding tours, surfing, hiking, and tree climbing and zip lines as well, plus much more. We were sorry to hear that you had trouble with your 4-wheel drive getting stuck but very happy that you managed to get that resolved quickly, and you are right to state that a 4-wheel drive is necessary. Thanks again and we do hope you and your family will return to Casa de los Sueños in the future. Happy New Year! -Tracy
We had an amazing week staying at Casa de los Suenos. It was more breathtaking than the photos show. You can see up and down the coast for miles. The property is huge, super private and meticulously kept. A toucan family would feed in one of the trees every morning. The howler monkeys could be heard several times a day deep in the jungle, sometimes they seemed to be very close. At dusk one evening we caught a glimpse of an agouti feeding under the trees. We loved waiting to see all of the different frogs come to the pool after dark, especially after a good rain. Everyday we would discover cool new birds and insects.
The house was very nice and spacious. The beds were very comfortable. We cooked several meals and always had everything we needed. The pool was refreshing after long days of Costa Rican adventures. We had a couple issues with the oven and pool light and they were very prompt to find a solution. It took me the entire trip to figure out where they stashed the coolers and other things, they were up high on shelves in the laundry room. We really didn't need them or I would have asked. A very generous welcome basket was waiting for us when we arrived as well. A nice touch.
Also I really loved the location. The town of Dominical is the perfect laid back surfing town. It's truly off the beating path of the tourist crowds. You can make yourself feel like a local for the week. Just down the road is Uvita and the amazing Marino Ballena National Park, very beautiful. We chose about 4 of the activities that Silvia the concierge suggested. Our favorite was the horseback ride to the Nauyaca Falls.
I highly recommend staying at Casa de los Suenos, it was a magical week. Thank you!
Thank you so much for writing a very nice review on Casa de los Sueños! Jim and I always enjoy reading such nice comments about our home. We're glad that you saw the toucans and the agouti plus heard the howlers in the woods and saw so many things. There are so many birds, animals, insects and reptiles around the property that everyone that stays at the house should see some wildlife. We appreciate your comments about the pool light and the oven. We are here at the house as I write this and have already had the pool light timer replaced, that has been in the process of being repaired for several days and the correct timer has been found and installed. We have already been shopping for a new oven. We had that planned as the next appliance replacement. We love the village of Dominical too. It is so laid back and the people are so friendly. There are lots of little sodas and restaurants to eat at including a very good sushi restaurant right there in the village. The complimentary concierge, Silvia, has been so helpful to a lot of guests that stay at Casa de los Sueños. She lives in the area and knows about everything to do in the vicinity. Thank you again for choosing our home for your visit to Costa Rica, we appreciate your comments and do hope that you will plan to return in the future. Pura Vida
Tree climbing tours 100 feet up to one of the very few above the rainforest canopy observation platforms in the Southern Pacific Zone can be arranged for an additional fee at the time of reservation. The platform is located high up in a majestic Ceiba tree, also known as the 'Mayan Tree of Life'. At 100 feet the diameter of the tree is still over 3 feet! The breeze across the top of the canopy is cool, and the views are simply spectacular. Binoculars and cameras are a must. There is a table and 4 chairs up in the platform making it a perfect place for a once in a lifetime picnic lunch. A professional climbing guide and single rope climbing technique trainer can accommodate groups up to 4 for a flat daily rate. All climbing gear required will be provided for this exclusive and very unique Costa Rican adventure tour.
