About Matthias MacLellan

I am a carpenter and a young man from the area, I rebuilt this house with help from my father in 2012. I have been around the world and the rugged, pristine coastline of Nova Scotias South Shore is a truly special place. Summer rentals allow me to pay the mortgage and I am happy to share my slice of paradise.

Matthias MacLellan purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Matthias MacLellan chose St. Margaret's Bay

I choose to buy this property because of the spectacular location and having the skillset and energy to turn it into something beautiful. I am a wooden boat owner and sailing enthusiast and hope to still be in this house as an old man.

Good location to Lunenburg and Halifax

  • 3 of 5

It's a good location- easy drive to Lunenburg a must see and Halifax which we loved. No wifi or cable networks. Enjoyed watching the tide changes.

Owner's Response: Hi there, I am so sorry you were unable to connect to the wifi. I included network information with your access instructions. I have had high speed internet at the cottage for 5 years. I am glad you enjoyed the area! Best wishes. Matt

Charming

This is a beautiful location! It was so easy to explore the south shore and still relax in comfort when we returned. We enjoyed morning coffee and evening drinks on the deck watching the wildlife and sailboats. Very peaceful

An awesome retreat

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cottage and would return! We have 3 small kids and they loved playing on the rocks, (so much space to explore when the tide is out) as well as enjoying the canoe and kayak.. (we brought our own kid life jackets as there wasn't enough at the cottage... lots of adult life jackets)!.. the water was warmer than the beach across the bay as well as any other beach we went to so that was awesome. There was a lot of seeweed but that didn't deter my kids

The cottage itself is an older style with lots of charm and it fit all of our basic needs. We could see the work Matt has put into his home while keeping that cottage feel. Matt was very responsive to our inquiries before, during and after our stay. If you are looking for a low key cottage with lots of charm and water access this is definitely the place!

More than I hoped for!

  • 5 of 5

If an outstanding view, the smell of sea air, eagles soaring overhead, abundant wildlife, comfortable accommodations with plenty of room and extra parking and a village close by are what you want from your Nova Scotia vacation, this is the place to be! I loved every minute of my stay here, leaving with regret that I didn't stay longer! Can't wait to return!

Relaxing and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

My family and I travelled to the Halifax area for my niece's graduation. We wanted to make it a relaxing family vacation at the same time. It was such a beautiful location and so peaceful. We loved watching the tide come in and out, the boats go by, the morning fog, finding shells and seaglass, bird watching... it was great. We also loved being able to cook dinner right at the cottage and eating meals out on the deck. Plenty of space to accommodate our family. Our children loved it too! Thanks for a great vacation! Hope to visit again in the future!
