Why Tennison Long chose Three Rivers

Three Rivers is a very special place, and for some a hidden California gem! Nestled in the foothills, you can be at the sequoia trees within 45 minutes, or be on the lake in 15...the nights are star-filled, the weather is always amazing, the hum of the river slides you into immediate relaxation! The town has a population of roughly 3,000 people, so it is small yet still provides many necessary amenities...a few restaurants, two markets, gas stations, art galleries, video store, gift shops, organic farm, and more...the house is a couple of miles from the entrance to Sequoia National Park and one mile from entrance to Mineral King! The Kaweah Lake is a man-made reservoir lake which provides for great bass fishing, recreational water skiing, jet skiing, houseboat rentals and more.

What makes this house unique

The 'White House' has its own private swimming hole, perfect for sunbathing, swimming and fishing! The house was built with views in mind...most windows and decks face east toward the park. The granite rocks at the entrance to the house have the original 'grinding holes' by the local Indian tribe, the Potwisha, who would grind acorn into maze, their most common food! The house is awesome in many was built with entertaining in mind, there is a very nice flow of spaciousness and can support many guests comfortably, or be the perfect getaway for a couple! FYI AT&T is only cell service in Three Rivers, but the house does have wifi and a landline!

Guestbook comments from the manager

The White House of 3 Rivers is the perfect getaway for family and friends. Perfectly situated near the giant Sequoia's, the house has all the amenities of home. Waking up to the beautiful river below, taking family hikes, playing in the water hole were just some of the highlights of our trip.

The White Castle is highly recommended from me. We had a large group of people and there was plenty of space. I arrived at night, and when I woke up, I had the most amazing views from my bedroom window. What a way to wake up. The balconies are great..the river sounds are calming and relaxing..It is beautiful. Tennison is great. the house is fully loaded..plenty of cooking ware, blankets, and just things you do not usually find with other rental homes. The house is "lived in", and I appreciate that. I really hate to rent a home that is "model perfect" and you feel like it has to stay perfect, so you stress out on keeping it that way, The home is comfy, I slept really well, and I just found it very relaxing.. Three Rivers is amazing as well.. I guarantee you will want to go back.. I do, and I will.. Thank you Tennison for letting us stay at your great home... From the Davis ..Feliz..Gridley.. and other bunch!!!

Castle with the best river view

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this castle for 2 nights total 13 members (9 adults, 4 kids). We found the castle is really good with all amenities. 1st floor has one open bath room which we didn't like because the bath room has no door. Because of the nature of the place, there was insects around the house. The insects are found even inside the house as well. Though it has all the amenities but things are quite old. But the overall architecture of the house is really good. One last this to mention, the castle opposite side river is a private property for the neighbor and they continuously keep an eye on the river, if someone comes near to that they start announcing with the mike. The white castle has a dedicated river access place which is the other side of the entrance road.

Owner's Response: Hello, thank you for your kind words. To clarify, when you say the bathroom does not have a door, that is not true. The bath room has an open sink/vanity area, with a private shower with its own door, and a toilet with its own door. That way it allows someone to shower, someone to use the toilet, and someone to brush their teeth all at the same time, privately. The river access is all private property throughout the town and the owners do a diligent job of protecting it from trespassers, with that said, the White House has nearly 1 acre of waterfront private swimming hole directly below the house and for several hundred yards downstream (as pictured). Thank you!

Great space but house needs TLC and cleaning

  • 3 of 5

We had a 4 night stay at this property in August. I am not one to write reviews particularly if there are not so positive things to say. I have booked several times through VRBO, Home Away and this is the first time that I visited a property that was so badly taken care of. It is a beautiful space but it was very dirty,, no exaggeration. Luckily I was able to get there ahead of the other 7 people so that I could try to add a little furniture polish and get a better scent in the air. But that's all that I could do. Cleaning this house would require at minimum two days from top to bottom. The doors are filthy, all the doors in the house, they need wiping down really badly, the windowsills were dirty, the walls were not only dirty but had damage, there was a hole in the wall in one of the bedrooms. I was a bit embarrassed quite honestly. The refrigerator was dirty, underneath the vegetable drawers were so dirty. The oven dirty as well. I tried to clean things up so that we could feel somewhat comfortable. The upstairs bathroom shower wall was stained. I am still itching just thinking about how dirty the place was. Yet it is such a beautiful piece of property and a great house. If nothing else what I suggest is to at least hire a really good house cleaning team to scrub down the house properly. I am so sorry to have to write this review but I am doing it hoping that the owner will really consider paying someone to do a proper cleaning. The house also needs painting really badly on the inside, and water damage to the ceilings in living room. The dishwasher is also missing. The trash cans in the kitchen need to be cleaned properly and around the faucet in the kitchen. Again this is no exaggeration . This is the first bad review I have ever written.

Yes it is a business but it cant always be about just grabbing the money, we must care as well and show gratitude to those who come to relax and enjoy the space by paying for it. It is so important that we care. I had seen some of these reviews after booking but I had hoped that it would not be that bad and sadly it really was. I want this to continue to be a thriving business for the owner and also a place of enjoyment for those booking this space in the future. The business will thrive even more with more TLC.

Despite all of that we had a great time in being able to view the river through the windows and to hear the water rushing by was really awesome!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and kind words about the house. I can assure you that the house is professionally cleaned prior to each arrival. Furthermore there is a linen service for all bedding. The house is rustic and in the country and sometimes things like cobwebs will suddenly appear (the crew has been sent your concerns). The house is scheduled to be painted now that it is off season (Sept 17). There is no dishwasher, and there is not a dishwasher advertised, as in the past it would be broken quite often from misuse. Thank you for your stay!

Wonderful vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Our group consisted of 14 adults and 11 kids. The top floor master suite has a king bed and plenty of floor space for 4 blow-up mattresses. The bathroom is dated, but clean and accommodated the family well.

The main floor dining table seats 8, but we brought two 5-foot folding tables and folding chairs. We had ample room and stored them on the balcony when not in use. There was a large flat screen TV on the wall in the living room. The pictures also show a cutting block in the kitchen, but it wasn’t there when we arrived, which made the kitchen space larger - plenty of room for 3 or 4 people to cook, prep and wash, while 2 drank wine and watched. The larger balcony was great for 3 or 4 of the guys to bar-b-que. (We brought an extra Weber, which was good, because the one there is small.) There is also a sink and toilet on this floor.

The bottom floor has 3 bedrooms. We had a family group of five in each room. It was cozy, but it worked. There is only one bathroom on this floor, but since the shower and toilet are each in separate rooms apart from the sink area, 3 people can use it at the same time.

The path to the river is steep, but you can station a couple of people along it to help the little guys and less steady adults. This year (2017) had a lot of snow pack, so the water was still moving in late July. There was a large area where we set up EZ-ups and a table and coolers for snacks. We spent 2 entire days in that spot, hiking up the river and rafting down. With adult supervision for the littles, it was safe and great fun.

The home page says that there is parking for 2 RVs. A camper, Class B or small Class C would work great, but we took a small towable travel trailer and that was a bad idea for us (we have a long-bed Ford F250 and a 22 foot trailer). The driveway is narrow and steep, but for a shorter vehicle than ours, it is do-able. If you do take an RV, plan to dry camp. You do have water access downstairs at the house, but will need to bring a 100 foot hose to reach it.

Tennison was very accommodating. We had one question, and he responded quickly.

The interior of the house could use some new paint and the oven could use a good cleaning, but neither are deal-breakers for us. We highly recommend it.

An awesome house, great view, tons of space!

  • 5 of 5

My family loved this house. There was plenty of space for my entire family and the house was perfectly stocked. We enjoyed the many balconies and the access to the river turned out to be perfect after leaving the Park because it was quite hot. I was kind of the star of my family for finding this place! Thanks Tennison!
