About John Kirkelie

I grew up in North Dakota and my wife's family is from the Portugese colony of Goa India. She was born in Nairobi, lived in London and moved to Alberta where we met. We enjoy the quiet at the 'cabin' and the deer in the yard and being able to see the milky way and all the stars at night.

John Kirkelie purchased this cabin in 2005

Why John Kirkelie chose Condon

We were stationed in Edmonton, Alberta and we were looking for a replacement property for a rental we had in Denver. My niece lives by Flathead Lake on the west side of the Mission Mts and we started looking there but expanded our search and found this beautiful log home over the Mt.

What makes this cabin unique

This Swan Valley corridor is a true wilderness area where development is limited to provide corridors for the Grizzly Bears to transit between the Bob Marshall Wilderness to the East and the Mission Mountain Wilderness area to the West. At the property you feel isolated but are actually close to the highway. You will see deer out the window daily and possibly other wildlife. A great place to take a break from a hectic pace. There is no TV(bring DVD's-video games etc), internet or cell phone service at the cabin. Cell phone service is nearby. On a clear night there are more stars visible than you can imagine.

Lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

This was a great find. Very nice landscaping, comfortable and very clean place, with lots of room, in and out, to kick back. I initially had the dates wrong, and John the owner was flexible in changing them for me. We'd book it again.

Perfect accommodations in a lovely area

  • 5 of 5

We had a family of 10, ranging from 5 months to 87 years over the 4th of July weekend. It was a great spot to be at a cabin without seeing neighbors (other than the wildlife), yet relatively close to the road and nearby Holland Lake. We enjoyed a couple days at the lake where we could rent kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and hike. They also served a nice lunch at the Lodge. The cabin provided a perfect setting for the family to unplug, play cards, pool and other games. Very relaxing with all that was necessary to cook if we wanted and access many activities. Would definitely stay there again.

It is nice to hear that Holland Lake has all the things you mentioned to make your visit there a pleasant one, and it is so close to the cabin. we look forward to your next visit.

Spacious living spaces and the pool table was a plus as entertainment for our family. The house sits in the woods and there was lots of wildlife viewing. We would definitely come back.

Great weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5

Some good friends got together to have a ladies weekend away and to do some snowshoeing, already living in Montana we try to find a place just far enough from home. This home was a perfect place for a get-away. The kitchen had everything we needed, we threw everything into the crock pot for soup and went down to Holland Lake, a nice snow shoe hike to the water falls was so rewarding. Coming back to the cabin the fireplace was so nice to warm up to, and dinner was ready. We really enjoyed the space as we all had our own bedroom, with comfy beds, with lots of peace & quiet. Several of us are considering another stay this coming summer to do some kayaking, the only problem is not being able to bring my dog as protection.

Owner's Response: Dena thank you for your great review. You are the first snowshoers to use the cabin. It is nice to hear about new ventures and that trip to Holland Falls sounds like a real good one. We look forward to having you back for that Kayaking trip this summer.

Beautiful way to spend Christmas

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was spacious with plenty of room for our family. The large table allowed us to all sit down to dinner together. The pool table was a bonus. It snowed while we were there which added to the magic. We will certainly come back in the future. The pictures in the ad do not show how wonderful this cabin really is. The only downfall was the faucet in the bathtub. If we would have had an Allen wrench we could have easily fixed it. We were still able to draw water for the children's baths. The kitchen is more than adequately stocked. Very nice.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mary Lou for the nice review. I am so glad your Christmas stay was "magical". I think the winter is a special time to be there. We would appreciate your return visit any time of the year. I apologize for the faucet troubles. That faucet operates with a T motion. It does not rotate. It has to be lifted straight up and then pushed left for hot or right for cold. And back to center to pull it down for off. I need to put a sign there again. I need to change the whole faucet unit but it means cutting into the wall from the other side to get at it. A project for my next trip there.
