Estero Bay Preserve State Park was established to protect the water, inlets, and islands along 10 miles of Estero Bay, and provides a crucial habitat for many species. Visitors can enjoy the preserve from land or by water. Another attraction worth a visit is the Koreshan State Historic Site. Settled by member of the Khoresan sect in 1894, this religious settlement once had 50 buildings, 11 of which remain, including the restored home of founder Cyrus Reed Teed.
It's hard not to take it easy in laid-back Estero
You can shop till you drop in Estero. In Coconut Point Mall and Miromar Outlets, Estero has 2 of Florida's premier shopping destinations. With more than a dozen golf courses in the area, golfers are also particularly fond of Estero. And if catching some rays is on your agenda, Fort Myers Beach is only a 25-minute drive away. Its 7-mile beach attracts sun worshippers from across the U.S., and offers a whole host of water sports activities, including kayaking, jetskiing, and scuba diving. There are also numerous nearby national parks and nature preserves that are worth your while seeing.
Estero, where year-round sun means year-round fun
"Pretty, pretty, pretty good" is how Larry David would describe Estero's climate, and he wouldn't be wrong. The sun shines almost every day, and the annual average temperature is 75 degrees. Even in December and January, you can expect average highs in the mid-70s, which means that Estero vacation rentals are in demand all year round. Of course Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary has its fair share of alligators, plus hundreds of otters, white-tailed deer, and red-bellied turtles.
How to get to and around Estero
Fly into Southwest Florida Intl. Airport (RSW), the closest airport, located 7 mi (11.2 km) from the city center. If you can't find a flight that's convenient for your trip, you might consider flying into Charlotte County Airport (PGD), which is 35.1 mi (56.4 km) away.
