A STAY WITH A GREATER MISSION The Emerald Den is curated with heart, not cutting corners. As a Navy Veteran and a former military brat, I spent my life learning to find home wherever I landed. I build my properties with the same discipline, honor, and care I learned in the service—ensuring every detail, from the local art to the essential oil diffusers, is pristine.
But our true pulse is giving back. We are building this property portfolio to lay the foundation for a much bigger mission: providing clean, beautiful, and dignified temporary stays for lower-income families and homeless veterans who deserve comfort and respect. Your booking directly fuels this mission. Welcome to the Den—your sanctuary awaits.

Appreciate that. Smooth, easy stays are exactly how it’s meant to feel at The Emerald Den. Glad everything lined up for you—door’s always open when you’re back in town.
Our stay was excellent! The host was responsive and helpful throughout the booking and stay process. The apartment is clean and well appointed. Our son (9) appreciated the Nintendo Switch that was available for his use during our stay. The beds and couch are very soft! While the neighborhood may have been slightly sketchy in the past, it was quiet during our stay.

Thank you so much for staying with us, Gabrielle, and for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. We’re glad your family felt comfortable, enjoyed the space, and that your son had fun with the Switch — those little touches matter to us.
We also appreciate your note about the neighborhood. Like many established areas, it has its history, but we’re grateful you experienced a quiet, peaceful stay during your visit, which is the standard we work hard to maintain.
Thank you again for choosing our veteran-owned home. You were a pleasure to host, and you’re always welcome back at The Emerald Den.
We stopped on our way to South Carolina for the night. It was in a great location - quiet neighborhood. The host was always available when we had questions - no matter how big or small. He had recommendations for local restaurants and things to do. He thought of everything from coffee station to toiletries you may have forgotten. In a good location to the highway. This is a great place to stay for the night or for an extended stay.

About the host
Hosted by James Carr
I grew up a military brat, moving from base to base, learning early what it meant to pack up, start fresh, and find home wherever you land. Later, I served in the Navy myself, and those years instilled in me a deep respect for discipline, honor, and looking out for your crew.
These days, that same spirit guides how I host: making sure anyone who stays under my roof feels looked after, comfortable, and leaves a little better off than when they arrived.
I’ve got a real passion for helping veterans and folks who’ve fallen on hard times. Part of why I’m building this small property portfolio is so it can eventually give back — opening doors to clean, beautiful places for lower-income families or homeless vets who deserve a moment of dignity and comfort. Each booking you make here doesn’t just support my family; it’s helping lay the foundation for something much bigger.
Beyond that, I’m just a down-to-earth guy who loves thoughtful design, a smart layout, and adding little unexpected touches that make you smile. I take pride in every detail — from the art on the walls to the stocked essential oil diffuser — so your stay is more than just functional; it’s restorative. Whether you’re here for work, to see family, or just to take a breather, I want you to feel the intentional energy that lives in this space. That’s the real story behind The Emerald Den.
Why they chose this property
When I was looking for a spot to plant some roots, this neighborhood checked every box: close to the airport, near all the major highways, minutes to downtown Columbia and Fort Jackson, yet still quiet enough to unwind.
Some might call it “country,” but I see it as an up-and-coming gem — a perfect duck-down from the hustle, close enough to jump right back into the action when you want. You’re only 18 minutes to the Vista and all its restaurants, under 20 to the zoo, and 24 to Fort Jackson. But back here, you get to hit reset.
I love the mix here. It feels authentic — real people, neighbors who wave from the porch, and a neighborhood that’s growing in the best way. You’re not stuck in a sterile strip of chain hotels; you’re in a genuine slice of West Columbia. It’s the kind of area where you can slip away and sleep deeply, but also shoot downtown for a craft beer or a concert in under 20 minutes.
This is a place I’m excited to watch grow, and to contribute to thoughtfully. By investing here, fixing up properties with intention, and welcoming folks from all walks of life, we’re building something that serves more than just visitors — it uplifts the community too.
What makes this property unique
The Emerald Den stands out because it’s curated, not cookie-cutter. From the bold colors and local art to the smart kitchen and plush bedrooms, everything was chosen with a clear vibe in mind: a space where you can actually breathe. It’s not just about providing a bed; it’s about offering a setting that helps you reset, slow down, and enjoy the small details.
We don’t believe in doing the bare minimum. We keep this place up meticulously—constantly upgrading features, dialing in the lighting, and even tweaking the flow of the furniture so your stay feels easy and natural.
You’ll find thoughtful surprises here that you won't get at a standard hotel: • A premium, luxurious extra towel set. • Insider notes on where to find the absolute best local peach tea. • Integrated Bluetooth ceiling subs to bring your favorite playlists to life.
But beyond style, there’s real heart here. What we’re building with these properties will eventually circle back to provide quality stays for veterans and folks in tough financial spots — people who rarely get a chance to experience a space this thoroughly cared for. Your stay directly helps fuel that mission.
You aren’t just booking a house; you’re taking part in something that, over time, will spread a little more dignity, beauty, and peace into the world. That’s the true pulse of The Den.
