About Larry and Wendy Shrader

Lawrence and Wendy Shrader are the owners of Willow Lodge and Primrose Dale Farm. It is a working farm that not only produces corn, soybeans and grass hay but is also home to a variety of livestock including purebred Kinder goats, Berkshire Hogs, one Alpaca, one guard Llama, a flock of chickens and a bunch of waddling ducks.

Lawrence was born and raised in Littlestown and Wendy in Gettysburg so they are both native to Adams County. Both have a family background in farming.

Larry and Wendy Shrader purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Larry and Wendy Shrader chose Pennsylvania

In 2006 and newly married, Lawrence and Wendy began searching for the farm of their dreams...one that was not too far off the beaten path but far enough to provide the tranquility and pastoral setting they were looking for. Their search ended in 2010 when a 52 acre farm with two houses went on the auction block. Lawrence and Wendy moved quickly and with one swift sound of a gavel, Primrose Dale was born.

By offering Willow Lodge as a guest cottage here on their farm, they hope to share with others the peace and tranquil beauty they found here in upper Adams County.

What makes this cottage unique

Sitting back off the main road, the private gravel lane leads to a farm house and guest cottage. An abundance of wildlife can be spotted from Willow Lodge. It is not a rare occurrence to see a buck or a doe with her fawn grazing at the edge of the woods. The sound of a woodpecker, or a dove; an occasional 'hoot' of an owl is typical. The quiet beauty and the privacy of the location is unsurpassed….a serene place to rest, relax and renew.

Lovely clean lodge in a secluded rural setting

  • 4 of 5

This house was very clean and nicely appointed. It has a fire pit and outside furniture. In the evening deer wandered around the house. The birds were wonderful and the stars at night so bright! The lack of internet was the only downside...but this was expected and our Verizon signal(2-3 BARS) was strong enough to get to our hotspot for use. Gettysburg was 20ish minutes away and an easy drive. We gave 4 not 5 stars only because no internet. Other than that it was PERFECT!

The owners Larry and Wendy were friendly and very easy to get a hold of and accommodating when we needed to stay another night! Thanks again for a great stay!

Wonderful quiet retreat location

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to visit Gettysburg but did not want to be in the middle of the busyness of the town. We were looking for a farm location located near the Gettysburg National Military Park and Information Center. For our needs the Willow Lodge was perfect. It is a three bedroom two bathroom home located on an operating farm north of Gettysburg. It was about 25 minutes to the Gettysburg National Military Park. Eisenhower Homesite Tour is also initiated at the Gettysburg National Military Park information Center. The house was clean, registration and access were very easy, and the stay was great. We highly recommend this if you don't want to be downtown. We found it affordable and well equipped. Come prepared (meaning bring groceries) to eat at home because there are not many restaurants anywhere near and Grocery stores are in town. We loved it.
