Willow Lodge is a cozy three bedroom ranch style cottage that is nestled by the edge of the woods on a working farm, Primrose Dale. It is conveniently located only 11 miles from historic Gettysburg, 45 miles from Hershey Park, 70 miles from Lancaster's amish country, 23 miles from Ski Liberty, and 20 miles from Ski Roundtop and Mountain Resort. The cottage is fully furnished with three beds (one full size and two twins) that sleeps four (4) people and two cots (with mattresses) that sleeps two (2) people. Maximum Occupancy is six (6) people. [Please note that the $99/night rate is based on four people. Add an additional $10.00/night for each additional person above the four up to the maximum of six. Cots are provided only on reservations for five or six people]. The cottage has two newly renovated full baths with linens, dining area and kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, and all pots, pans, utensils and dishes needed to provide for all of your dining needs. A full size washer and dryer is also included right off the main dining area. Truly a place to 'get away from it all', there is no WIFI available but access to the internet or your e-mail can be done easily with a smartphone. There is also no television. Books, board games, playing cards and wildlife sightings are the main forms of entertainment here on the farm. A small working fireplace in the living room (available October through March) provides guests with a cozy atmosphere while taking the chill out of a cool autumn evening. April through November, a picnic table and charcoal grill is provided behind the house with a beautiful view of the farm and picturesque South Mountains. Next to the outdoor dining area is an inviting fire pit where guests may relax while enjoying an evening beverage, pleasant conversation or some quiet time. An especially welcoming feature after a long day of sightseeing or other area activities. (Outdoor seating provided by the owners April through November only. Guests must supply their own firewood as it is not available in or around the property. Grill available for use April through November only and the charcoal must be provided by the guests.)

About Larry and Wendy Shrader

Lawrence and Wendy Shrader are the owners of Willow Lodge and Primrose Dale Farm. It is a working farm that not only produces corn, soybeans and grass hay but is also home to a variety of livestock including purebred Kinder goats, Berkshire Hogs, one Alpaca, one guard Llama, a flock of chickens and a bunch of waddling ducks.

Lawrence was born and raised in Littlestown and Wendy in Gettysburg so they are both native to Adams County. Both have a family background in farming.

Larry and Wendy Shrader purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Larry and Wendy Shrader chose Pennsylvania

Recently married in 2006, Lawrence and Wendy began their search for the farm of their dreams...one that was not too far off the beaten path but far enough to provide the tranquility and pastoral setting they were looking for. Their search ended in 2010 when a 52 acre farm with two houses went on the auction block. Lawrence and Wendy moved quickly and with one swift sound of a gavel, Primrose Dale was born.

By offering Willow Lodge as a guest cottage here on their farm, they hope to share with others the peace and tranquil beauty they found here in upper Adams County.

What makes this cottage unique

Sitting back off the main road, the private gravel lane leads to a farm house and guest cottage. An abundance of wildlife can be spotted from Willow Lodge. It is not a rare occurrence to see a buck or a doe with her fawn grazing at the edge of the woods. The sound of a woodpecker, or a dove; an occasional 'hoot' of an owl is typical. The quiet beauty and the privacy of the location is unsurpassed….a serene place to rest, relax and renew.

Sweet Getaway Retreat!

  • 4 of 5

My sister and I needed a place for a weekend getaway! This place was perfect! Had everything we wanted for the weekend! Beds are super comfy! This is always a plus for me! We loved the firepit and the fireplace! Also it was close to lots sights nearby! Even a covered bridge that we drove to see and Gettysburg of course! Oh, and if you have kids, there is plenty of room outside to safely run around!

Beautiful location! Very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The property is very clean and quaint. We enjoyed time outside by the firepit watching deer come out at dusk and a starry sky at night. Short drive to Gettysburg. If you want a quiet, relaxing stay, this is the place.

Cozy. Clean. Affordable. Quiet.

  • 5 of 5

This house is very clean and the farm/woodland setting is delightful. I wish the weather had been warmer to take advantage of the outside fire pit area.

Larry and Wendy were quick to respond to questions and were quite friendly. They gave us a sweet tour of the farm on the final morning of our stay.

Enjoyed our visit. Nothing fancy but nice and quiet and a beautiful setting. No tv or internet. Beds were a little hard.

Thank you for a great weekend

  • 4 of 5

We were pleased to find a clean and cozy cottage that included comforts that help to create a nice getaway. Our family was able to sit around a large dining room table, play games, and share a meal; as well as to sit outside around the fire pit. These are opportunities you do not have when staying in a hotel. Thanks again!

Great Gettysburg getaway

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was clean & had everything we needed. Convenient to Gettysburg. It was very private & quiet. The space was plenty big for our family of 6 - much nicer than staying in a hotel.
