Ennis Lake and the Madison River are only minutes away, providing great fishing and water recreating opportunities for the whole family. If history is your passion take a 30 minute drive to historic Virginia City and tour the town in a horse drawn wagon. Listed as a state historic site, there are daily tours available along with two play house venues and panning for garnets available nearby. The charming rustic town of Ennis is only 15 minutes from Elk Hills Haven. There you can enjoy a round of golf, great dining, art galleries and shopping, a new library and hospital and several terrific fly fishing shops. Known for the phenomenal fly fishing on the Madison River, you can easily book a float trip with some of the best fishing guides in the industry. Madison County is also known for its great elk, deer and antelope hunting so plan early!

Second year in a row!

This place is fantastic. Close enough to town yet far enough away to get away from it all. Great place for friends and family. More than enough room to hang together inside and outside comfortably, yet plenty of privacy.

Excellent

  • 4 of 5

Elk Hills Haven was more than adequate for the needs of our group of 12. The cabin provides beautiful sunrises and sunsets that highlight the beautiful surrounding mountains. It was wonderfully decorated and the kitchen had every conceivable item needed to produce fantastic meals.

Unfortunately it was unusually hot during our July stay which made it a bit uncomfortable due to a lack of air conditioning, therefore I rated it a four star instead of a five. The bottom line is we could have not found a better place for the price and the convenience. Thanks--Jimmy Porter

Just OK

Nice location and beautiful view. Cabin is surprisingly large, with plenty of beds for a large crew of people - although not sure the water pressure could handle any more than the 2 couples. Problem for the price charged, there was no internet, the front yard had been ripped up awaiting for grass to grow in the middle of hot summer with no water. Also, there are no windows that open on the east side of the house and only a very few that open on the west, making for a stuffy time when everyone is in the house at night. It was, however, very clean and the views were lovely.

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean and comfortable. For the first time ever, our large party had enough room to sit in the living room and hang out with old friends. The views were fantastic, the night sky is unbelievable and the view of the sunrise from the deck was gorgeous. The deck also had more than enough room for all of us to be together. Getting in and out of the area was a piece of cake, only a few miles to Ennis (small town America, lovely main street). All the appliances worked, the refrigerator/freezer was actually very cold (we've stayed in places where the cooler we brought worked better). Our weekend was spent fishing/floating the Madison and we had more than enough room for the three truck/raft trailer combos, plus parking for the rest, and it was an easy drive to the fishing access sites.

Would definitely recommend this home if you have a large group of friends/family getting together. We do a trip like this every year and will be looking to book this house next year.

Thank you for letting us borrow your home to make memories!

Located in Southwestern Montana, 10 miles south of Ennis, Elk Hills Haven is only 60 miles from the town of Bozeman, known for The Museum of the Rockies and its one of a kind dinosaur collection from Eastern Montana and beyond. Yellowstone National Park is an easy hour and a half away to the South. The drive is absolutely stunning as you follow the Madison River and travel past Hebgen and Quake Lakes. Cliff and Wade Lakes are along the way as well, about 20 minutes from the highway. The town of Ennis is quite quaint but don't let that fool you. There is world class dining to be found at the Continental Divide and Banditos Restaurant. Local artists work can be found at the Depot Gallery, along with many others. If fishing is your passion you've come to the right place. The Madison River is known world wide for its phenomenal fishing.
