Our home is a former bed and breakfast originally constructed in 1907. We are proud to be the fourth owners of this special home. The home boasts five bedrooms, plus a sleeping porch, and four full bathrooms (three showers and one claw-footed tub). It is a great family vacation home in every sense.
The home is located in the countryside near the quaint town of Cashmere (approximately 15 minutes to Leavenworth and 10 minutes to Wenatchee) on a former apple orchard. Today, the grounds hold apple, plum and cherry trees, a vegetable garden and an expansive manicured lawn. The property is fully-fenced and is an incredible place for children to play. Our care-taker lives in a separate home on the property and is available for any needs you may have.
A large, private, in-ground swimming pool (seasonal) makes this the perfect place to relax.
The home is located just a few minutes from the Wenatchee River, rock climbing in the Peshastin Pinnacles, as well as the legendary mountain bike trails of Mission Creek and Devil's Gulch. There is great jogging and cycling on quiet country roads out the front door. Beautiful public tennis courts are located less than a half mile away. Skiing is available at both Mission Ridge (35 minutes) and Steven's Pass (45 minutes).
The Bavarian village of Leavenworth is just a short drive away, as is the small city of Wenatchee. Cashmere is a quiet town, and a great place to relax. It is also the home of the world famous Aplets & Cotlets candy factory and the fascinating Pioneer Village Museum.
The house has hosted families and travelers in comfort for more than a century. The master bedroom is located on the main floor with French doors opening to the pool. The second floor holds four additional bedrooms, and three more bathrooms.
The kitchen was recently remodeled with stainless steel appliances and beautiful concrete counters.
The home is heated with both central heat and classic radiators. There is a wood-burning stove in the kitchen as well as a large brick fire place in the living room. There is also central air-conditioning and ceiling fans in every bedroom.
The porch room is equipped with comfortable sofas for lounging and a large flat screen television. Cable TV and DVD/VHS player are available. Wireless internet is also available throughout the house.
Clothes washer and dryer are available for use and located in the basement.
There is a large dining room table, which seats at least ten. The dining room also holds an upright piano.
In full disclosure, this home is not new. It is well over 100 years old and with those years come many marks of character. The home is exceeding comfortable, but not luxurious. It is clean and well-kept but not flawless. Above all else, it is our home, and we are happy to share it with you.
We (Ian & Wendy) purchased this property in 2000 when we moved to Cashmere from Seattle to practice law and raise a family. Ian is a third generation Cashmere resident and we have always felt like this is our 'place.' Our life has taken many twists since this original move, but one constant has been our home.
We now have four children and are working as educators in South America. Ian is the head of school at a school in Bogota, Colombia, where Wendy is also a teacher. We try and return to our home as frequently as possibly, but when we are not able to we would like to share it with others.
Ian & Wendy Crossland purchased this farmhouse in 2000
The Wenatchee Valley is a special place to us for many reasons. Individually, Ian has roots in this area, but for our entire family, this has become our center. It is the place we go to relax, to recreate in the mountains and rivers, and to spend time with family and friends. We love this home in all four seasons, whether swimming in the pool on a hot summer day, playing in the snow in winter, harvesting apples on a cool autumn day, or enjoying the beauty of apple and cherry blossoms in spring.
Our home served as a B&B for many years and is well-equipped for long weekend or week of relaxing and recreation. The combination of unique character it possesses as one of the first homes in the valley, along with the benefits of the large lawns and swimming pool make every visitor feel at home.
We love getting to know your family through your lovely photos, signs, pictures and mementos of your family travels. Thank you for sharing your warm, loving home, beautiful and peaceful yard, red and green apples, grill and hot tub with us. Many blessings to you.
Thank you for making your home available for us to have our own Cashmere get-away. We enjoyed the homey atmosphere and welcome ambiance.
Thank you for letting us to stay at your farmhouse for a few days. It was a very pleasant mini vacation.
Here are the things we liked:
Very nice, big and very warm pool (was heated by the warm weather).
Huge backyard for kids to run around.
Kitchen with everything you need for everyday living.
TV with cable and WiFi.
Very nice refrigerator/stove and dishwasher.
Washer and Dryer in the basement--thank you :)
The things that we didn't like: :)
Couches in the living room looked really bad and old--sorry, didn't want to seat on them.
The doors in the bathrooms don't lock and some don't even close.
Shower heads are hard to take a shower with if you have small kids that you have to wash yourself.
I would recommend this house to my friends, it was a pleasant stay with minor minuses.
Thank you Ian and Wendy,
We had 8 adults and 4 kids in our party, and the house was more than we could have imagined. Everyone was comfortable in the beds. The pool was surprisingly warm and immaculate. The entire house was very clean and we all loved the decorations and family photos. We enjoyed the piano and had a great time making dinners together in the kitchen. The huge lawn was perfect for croquet and I think everyone took a turn swinging in the hammock. The yard was perfect for kids to be able to run around and explore country life. We loved the fresh raspberries, and other fruit that was ripe during our stay. I have rented many houses through VRBO, but this was the first home I rented and it was a wonderful place to bond with good friends. We all left wishing we had one more day. I could easily do a week in this house and I'd still wish for more time.
It was a great place for our family getaway. There was plenty of room for 3 couples and 6 kids. The back yard was huge and the kids loved the hammock, pool, and all the room to run and play. The front yard facing the street was charming. Fencing around the entire property, including a gate on the front walkway provided an extra feeling of protection for the toddlers--keeping them from wandering out or into danger if you happened to look away for a moment.
We felt very secure at this location. It's close to the city of Wenatchee for shopping, and close to Leavenworth and the cascades--we really enjoyed Icicle Creek: what a spectacular drive and hike!
The mattresses have been upgraded and everyone enjoyed comfortable nights of sleep! :-)
The home is more than 100 years old, but was clean, well maintained, and very adequate for our needs. We never ran out of hot water either. :-) And it even had a piano that was pretty much in tune. We're glad we stayed here and would recommend it.
We had 3 families staying here and loved it! The pool was amazing, as well as the yard and fruit trees! The house was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely plan to return! The only thing I can say that isn't 5 star, is that the mattresses were very thin and hard... next time we may bring air mattresses. Other than that, the place was excellent and the owner was very flexible with us for arrival and departure. If you are looking for a fancy posh modern day place, this isn't it, but we loved the old farmhouse charming feel with touches from world travels and character throughout. Can't wait to return!!
I stayed here with a group of friends for a wedding that was in Wenatchee. Best. Place. Ever. More than enough room, the kitchen was fabulous, dining room great for card games and the back yard a dream for bocce ball, soccer, swimming and hot tub. The hot tub broke one night but Marta the next door neighbor knew how to fix. Will be back. Fabulous old home. Wish it was my own.
Our family was meeting to celebrate a 40th & 60th birthday. We had 5 adults and 3 children ages 4,5 and 6. Upon arrival, walking into the living room, the first impression was how filthy the couches were. This was remedied by using sheets as slipcovers. Great until you sat down. Very broken down and uncomfortable to sit in. But hey, there is a pool, the weather was great so we sat outside. We're good until bedtime. In reviewing the listing, it does list the beds upstairs as doubles and bunks. This is true. What it doesn't say is the mattresses are no more than 2 inch pads on plywood. My 60 year old back suffered greatly. Instead of a week of relaxation, I was exhausted by the time we left due to not one night of decent sleep. My husband could not tolerate the bed at all so after the first night, slept on the couch downstairs. He tried the bunk beds but truly, they were very hard also. Fortunately, the three kids aren't as picky and slept well. The best night of sleep on vacation came in the form of a Super 8 hotel room with six bodies that we stayed at on the way home. The second day we ate at the dining room table. As I was washing the table afterwards, it dawned on me that the uneven coloring was due to filth, not stain. I had a white wash cloth and as I scrubbed, the grime balled up and soon my cloth was black. We ate outside after this. Which was a huge plus. The fenced yard was great for the kids and having the pool totally fenced in was a huge stress reducer. We spent hours there and two of my grandbabies learned to swim! The disappointment here was the hot tub. We were warned to wear flip flops due to needed repairs. However, it's difficult to tell a child they can't go back and forth. Two of my grandchildren have Down's Syndrome (owners were told this in advance)and one is pretty unsteady on his feet. All three children fell going up and down the stairs to the hot tub due to half a stair missing. The water was very dirty also (it was cleaned mid week so that was great!). Finally, the front door had to be locked to stay shut (to keep the two littlest inside). With two families coming and going this was an inconvenience. All in all, I loved being able to be with my kids. This was a huge splurge for us ($400 per night with taxes) and a little luxury would have been nice. (The kitchen was pretty nice) But it did have a great pool and we loved Cashmere. It would be great for a frat party or young/healthy adults.
The Wenatchee Valley is a recreation paradise. We enjoy four distinct and beautiful seasons, and endless opportunities of recreation.
