|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Completely renovated with custom windows, gourmet kitchen, hardwood floors, and artistic trim. Two full beds plus queen futon in sleeping loft. Pets welcome!
Our family lived in this area for decades and now we enjoy returning to our new mountain retreat to take in the beauty and history of the surrounding countryside.
Pamela Kellett purchased this cabin in 2012
Secluded and peaceful yet convenient to area attractions. We love hiking the miles of trails at nearby Strawberry Hill Nature Center.
Stream side forest location, beautiful artistic design.
My wife and I stayed in this cabin during our weekend visit to Gettysburg, and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was quiet, comfortable, and close enough to make visiting Gettysburg easy, but getting away from the traffic and tourists easy as well. The owner and her representatives were responsive and helpful too. We're happy to recommend this cabin and plan on staying here again the next time we visit Gettysburg.
This cabin was PERFECT for a weekend get away. Great location - easy enough to get to nearby Gettysburg or just relax by the stream. We could not have been more pleased with the accommodations. Just lovely - we would definitely return.
My wife and I had a very relaxing vacation, and this cabin was icing on the cake. The cabin was very inviting and peaceful. We explored Gettysburg everyday and enjoyed returning to the cabin and the country setting. I would recommend staying here and look forward to coming back.
First the good stuff. We loved the stream out back. It was lovely going to sleep each night with the soft music of the water. The cabin was nicely stocked. The owner left us a huge Hershey bar and creamer in the fridge. She communicated well with us before and during the rental process. We did have to pay a $150 deposit which we will have to wait to get back. We have never had to do that before. It was right off the road but not a lot of traffic. It was quiet. I really don't think you could get three cars in the yard though. It was close to Gettysburg and surrounding sites. Mckesson's Polish pottery was right down the road and awesome. Now the not so good stuff. We had a horrible time getting the key out of the lock box. It took both of us. It's old and needs to be replaced. We found another key laying on the wood bracket by the door. The patio door was unlocked. Not very safe. The cottage was marginally clean. There was trash all over the floor, especially in the dining area. All the towels and linens smelled very strongly of perfumy detergent (probably gain). While some might like it, others like myself have allergies to strong scents. It was a good thing I brought my own sheets, but I could still smell it from the pillows. I awoke with a headache every morning. It looked to be furnished from someone's castoffs or possibly from yard sales. Many different styles and colors. The couch will eat you when you sit on it. I understand that mice can come in anywhere, but we found a drawer full of bathroom stuff (shower caps, floss, etc.), dog food, and mouse dropping in the bathroom vanity. It looked like it had been there a while, but we dumped it out. The cabin was cute, windows and view pretty, but it was just sloppily built. There were water pipes running across the ceiling. It just looked like with a little more effort it could have been much nicer. Probably won't stay there again, but we still had a good time.
We spent our 5th anniversary at the cabin, after looking for somewhere we could get away and take our pup. It was perfect! We skied and tubed at Liberty, hiked in the nature preserve, baked pie and watched movies. On our last day we visited Gettysburg - there is way more to see than I expected, so we will have to go back.
We also picked up local eggs and beef to take home at a really cute nearby farm where they were very friendly (Weikert's).
The views from the bedrooms are stunning. We are normally the types to sleep with a white noise machine, and I have even been known to travel with one. You won't need it here! The babbling of the stream can be heard clearly in the cabin and is so soothing! The beds are comfy, if a little small (though I think we slept in the smaller bed?) The sleeping loft was so cute! We didn't sleep there and I think it would probably be a little too firm for most adults, but kids would love it! There is a TV and DVD player, with HBO, and WiFi, so you can snuggle up after a long day with a film.
Everything you could need in the kitchen for cooking/baking. Above all the location is really great, and it is so wonderful to feel welcome with our dog. She loved all the smells!
Oh, and no bobcats, but we saw an owl fly past our head! :)
This cabin was a great escape for our family. Loved the bedrooms with floor to ceiling windows. It was awesome waking up to the forest and sound of the stream. The sleeping loft came in handy as our other son decided to join us for a few days. We enjoyed the short drive to Gettysburg and Adams winery close by. We took the dog on a trail at Strawberry Nature area too.
Whether your interest is touring local Civil War battlefields or exploring South Central Pennsylvania's natural areas, our cabin is the perfect place to use as home base!
