I reached out to the host the day before arrival to get the lock code. The code and details he provided, including parking information, turned out to be incorrect. There was no mention that we needed to use the code in the lockbox instead of the pin pad. When we arrived, we couldn’t get in and were standing outside in the rain, calling repeatedly until we finally received a call back with the correct code though still no instructions on how to open the lockbox. We were then sent a text with a blurry photo of the lockbox and told to go to the property manager’s trailer, along with a map. When we got there, there was no car in the designated space, and we felt uncomfortable knocking on someone’s trailer in the freezing rain. We ultimately had to look up a YouTube video to figure out how to open the lockbox ourselves. The whole experience was frustrating, and once we finally got inside, I noticed a pair of black underwear in the corner by the mirror that were definitely not ours, and we hadn’t even set our things down yet. This made me question whether the place had been properly cleaned. The trailer itself was fine otherwise, but the issues made the stay far less enjoyable than it should have been.

I’m Shawn, the host and owner of Desert Drifter RV Resort. I’ve spent over 10 years helping people find their perfect getaway properties across California, and this resort is my way of sharing my love for the Mojave Desert. I enjoy meeting travelers from all walks of life—whether you’re a weekend wanderer, a stargazer, or a long-term desert dweller. My goal is to make your stay comfortable, easy, and memorable, with just the right blend of adventure and relaxation.

Why they chose this property

Yucca Valley sits at the gateway to Joshua Tree National Park, surrounded by some of the most stunning desert landscapes in California. The high desert has a special rhythm—quiet mornings, endless skies, and brilliant sunsets that feel different every night. The neighborhood is safe, open, and welcoming, with local spots like Frontier Café, Pappy & Harriet’s, and the Joshua Tree Farmers Market nearby. It’s the perfect mix of peaceful retreat and creative energy.

What makes this property unique

Desert Drifter RV Resort blends vintage desert charm with modern comfort. Each site has full hookups, reliable Wi-Fi, and easy pull-through access, but what really sets it apart is the vibe—laid-back, friendly, and surrounded by wide-open desert views. Guests can relax by the heated pool, explore the nearby trails, or simply unwind under a sky full of stars. It’s designed for travelers who want a true desert experience without giving up convenience.
