Hacienda del Sol rests on the shore of the beautiful Sea of Cortez with miles of white sand beaches, diverse sea life and spacious tranquil surroundings.
The Hacienda is located just outside of La Ribera, a quaint traditional Mexican fishing village, an hour’s drive north of the Los Cabos airport. This is the ideal location for a relaxing vacation, away from the fast pace of everyday life. La Ribera is home to a number of small family run restaurants, grocery stores and shops. The local people are very friendly and helpful.
Working with an award winning architect and builder, Hacienda del Sol was created to reflect the finest in authentic Mexican style, which is apparent throughout the house. The Hacienda has been created with comfort and convenience in mind with traditional architecture, Mexican finishes, such as specially selected Talavera tile and a spacious interior that opens out to a large veranda and welcoming pool.
The two master suites have luxurious king size beds with perfect views of the Sea of Cortez through the expansive sliding glass doors. Each bedroom has a large adjoining bathroom that has a walk in shower with a bench, as well as a double vanity. The sliding glass doors can be left open at night, allowing you to fall asleep to the gentle sound of the lapping waves.
The third bedroom has two queen size beds and a large walk-in closet. This bedroom also has views of the Sea of Cortez with its own sliding glass door and small private patio. The adjoining bathroom has a double vanity and large walk in shower with a bench.
The large central great room is perfect for gathering at any time during the day. The seating area provides for easy conversation and there is a television and DVD player with a large variety of movies.
The professional, chef designed kitchen is spacious and comfortable, allowing guests to gather during food preparation and dining, as there is island seating for six. Another special feature is the large traditional Hacienda style dining table.
The veranda spans one entire side of the house, with a fantastic view of the Sea of Cortez. This is where the pool and gas fire-pit are located, where you can spend many relaxing hours during the day and night. A sun sheltered outdoor dining area is another option for enjoying the tranquility of Hacienda del Sol. If you enjoy cooking on the BBQ, there is a large outdoor gas grill only steps away from the kitchen.
The Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park with its spectacular living coral reef and abundant marine life is located 16 miles south of La Ribera. There is a small village with facilities that can set up dive tours, and provide diving or snorkeling equipment if you do not have your own. There are also a few small restaurants in Cabo Pulmo.
Twenty five miles north of La Ribera is the tourist town of Los Barriles where wind surfing and sailing are popular sports. There are restaurants, shops and hotels, as well as a larger grocery store. Live music and art festivals can occur during the tourist season.
The Sea of Cortez is one of the best bodies of water for fishing in the world. Locals and tourists alike love to seek out theRooster Fish from the shore and have named the coastline 'Rooster Fish Alley'. Sierra, Dorado, Marlin, Red Snapper and Tuna are a few other species that are popular with the fishing crowd. If you prefer, arrangements can be made for a panga boat to pick you up directly in front of the hacienda for a day of fishing. Charter boats are also available for hire for deep sea fishing.
Hacienda del Sol is a unique accommodation located in a safe part of Mexico and we look forward to sharing the experience with you!
We've traveled in Baja for many years as it is one of our favorite places to visit. We have always loved what the small towns in Baja have to offer; quiet and relaxing environment, beautiful coastline and the rugged desert. We purchased the property in 2011 and construction was complete in November of 2012. During this process, we became great friends with our architect and builder, and other locals, and are thrilled to be apart of such a great community.
Hilary Blatz purchased this villa in 2011
The Sea of Cortez has been apart of our lives for many years and we wanted it to become 'home' for our family.
The quiet and tranquility of this small fishing village was alluring to us.
Thank you so much for letting our family borrow your beautiful home on the Sea of Cortez! We had an incredible vacation that will be remembered for years to come. Sergio and his wife were very helpful, and the authentic Mexican dinner was delicious. A cold front blew through one night and the tide left a short 4' cliff edge in the sand at the shoreline. The kids had a blast falling off of it into the surf, playing in the sand and watching the wildlife on and off-shore. We are hoping that we may return again some time in the future.
Thank you and have a blessed New Year!
The pictures of this amazing paradise although beautiful, don't even do it justice. The house is extremely comfortable and true to Mexican architecture. Property manager Ramon was so helpful and his wife Lucia cooked us some amazing Mexican dishes, worth having as much as possible and was very affordable! The beach is essentially yours for miles with the most amazing whale watching right from the back porch. Restaurants in la Ribera were all fantastic as well. The food at Efrens although slightly more expensive was definitely worth it with huge portions. Highly recommend renting from BBB rent a car and if you plan on excursions get a truck or SUV, the dirt roads are very bumpy. For day trips must dos are snorkelling in Cabo Pulmo, Santiago waterfall and Los Barrilles market on Saturday morning. Thank you so much Hilary and family for sharing your most amazing piece of paradise, we are sure to be back!
The house was perfect; large bedrooms, roomy bathrooms, a fantastic greatroom for your group to gather, a large kitchen, and a fantastic little swimming pool that is an absolute godsend in the summer. the views of the Sea of Cortez are stunning from the master bedrooms. Ohh, I forgot to mention that this house has TWO master bedrooms!
There are no houses on either side of this house, so you have that secluded feeling and the gorgeous beach in front of the house to yourself.
It is best to rent a car at BBB rentals in Los Cabos and drive to this house - the same price as a taxi ride both ways with the added flexibility of having your own vehicle for shopping, eating out, or fishing trips to the marina. I have been coming here since the 1980s, and assure you that every other car rental company EXCEPT BBB will rip you off.
The directions to the house will be confusing right now, because the sign for the turnoff to the house is gone. I have been driving in Mexico for 25 years, and am very familiar with the fact that signs are constantly disappearing and streets are constantly being renamed. When driving past the Pemex in La Ribera on the paved road, go up the hill and down into the first wash (arroyo) as instructed. In the sandy wash, there will be a well-traveled dirt road to your left with a sign that currently says "ATV RENTALS"; turn left here. Drive down this dirt road for a couple miles, then you will come to a "T" intersection with no signs. Turn right on this graded dirt road with a rusty old post on the corner. Drive down about a mile or so, and make a left through the "PLAYA COLORADO" gate. Drive straight past the dirt intersection and drive up the little hill to the house.
Renting quads and side x sides at this house is a breeze. Call Quadman in Los Barriles and they will deliver right to this house. Tell them to deliver to "Hacienda Del Sol" and they know exactly how to get there.
The owner, Hilary, is a joy to deal with and really goes the extra mile to help out guests.
This wonderful property is located on an beautiful beach in a very sparsely populated town on the East Cape of Baja. Great weather in early May. Not for you if you are looking for lots of people, American restaurants, or tourist attractions other than beautiful water, use of a sea kayak and paddleboard, fantastic fishing and a nearby(35 minutes) underwater national park.
The house is very spacious, nicely furnished, with a gourmet kitchen. All of the people we encountered, from the owner to the property manager, housekeepers, chef, and the fishing guides were very accommodating and professional.
I HIGHLY recommend this property and plan to return.
What a wonderful property, the house was clean and Sergio was attentive yet invisible. The house is beautiful and well appointed. My teenage son and two of his friends were with my wife and I. My concern was the kids would not have enough action, my concerns were unfounded. Fishing was off the hook 4 marlin and 1 sailfish released and we missed 4 other opportunities, that was one day of fishing. Cabo Pulmo was windy so the guide took us around the point to Fralies and we snorkeled there. We rented a ATV side by side for the week and fished/cruised the beach. The pool also kept everyone happy, and we spent evenings star gazing (star gazer applications on the smart phones are great) and watching movies from the movie library at the house.
The food options Hilary offered were very helpful, we visited La Trinidad, great steak, and Vianey's. We also went up to Los Barilles and had dinner at Tio Pablos, it was prime rib night. If you do dinner in Los Barilles, I would caution any drivers, highway 1 is tough during the day, it's tougher at night, be careful. I suggest getting off at the Rancho Leonero sign (right side of road) and taking the dirt road.
I've been traveling to East Cape since 1985 and have rented several homes, by far Hacienda Del Sol was one of the most beautiful properties I've stayed at! We hope to return very soon.
Wow. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well appropriated. Sleeping and waking up in the beds were a joy. Sunrises out the bedroom doors and tasteful decorations throughout the Mexican themed home.
Our three families (3 kids under 2 years old) were able to have privacy and enjoy each other's company with ease. The large open floored kitchen/dining/living room that opens out into a covered outdoor table and the pool was ideal. The beach is a few steps from the pool and the sea is right there! We went in mid February and only saw a handful of other people on the beach.
The town is close by and easy to get supplies from. La Vista restaurant serves some tasty food and blended margaritas with a view. We hired a chef the first night and it was stellar. So convenient and delicious.
Hillary (owner) is very communicative and saw that all of our wants/needs were met. The house manager popped in to clean the pool and take out the garbage. He gave us our privacy and fixed anything quickly. The kitchen supplies are bountiful and the snorkel and water toys make the trip that much more fun.
Be prepared for dirt roads, some windy days, and a strong desire to drink Mexican beer all day. Thank you so much for creating a space that felt like our "Baja Home," even if just for a week.
Hacienda del sol is simply amazing. There is no other way to describe this hidden jewel on the Sea of Cortez. Everything was exactly as described and there were no surprises. Although off of the beaten path, it is well worth the drive to La Ribera and as far as we could tell, as safe as any tourist area.
Our party of 8 included my SO, his 18 y/o daughter and 14 y/o son, my sister, her husband and their 14 y/o son and 12 y/o daughter. There was ample room for all and plenty of beach activities and toys to keep the kids busy. It is a little chilly in December so at least a shorty wet-suit is highly recommended. The beach is beautiful, clean, and felt private. We did snorkel, paddle board, and kayak but the best activity, by far, was watching the whales frolic not far from the coast.
Hilary recommended that we hire her chef for the first night and that was great advice. The meal was tasty, authentic Mexican fare, very reasonably priced, and served promptly when we arrived around 6:00 pm on December 19.
My SO and I have traveled all over Mexico and we take his children with us over the Christmas holidays each year. The Hacienda del sol, its amenities, and superb customer service from Hilary and her staff was definitely a five star experience.
