About Hans & Norma
We are a family of 5. We love to travel the world. Colorado is one of our favorite places with its wide open spaces and soaring mountains.
Hans & Norma purchased this Lodge in 2013
Why Hans & Norma chose Pagosa Springs
When we first visited Pagosa Springs we fell in love with the majestic mountains and the friendly nature of locals. We decided to build a log lodge here so our family could enjoy the wonderful surroundings and all the healthy activities such as biking, hiking, rafting, horse riding, cross country skiing, fishing etc. We enjoy sharing our cabin and it surroundings with a diversity of guests and so we have set base rates for the main lodge cabin to be affordable to smaller families with 6 or less guests and at the same time accessible to larger groups via an additional fee per person per day. The property is idea for families and friends who wish to make lasting memories in this luxury custom build lodge cabin.
What makes this Lodge unique
We are surrounded on 3 sides by the San Juan National Forest, on the continental divide, in the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains. Just 30 minutes away is the Wolf Creek Ski Area providing a world class skiing experience and the most snow in Colorado! The town of Pagosa Springs is located just east of here and is home to the Pagosa Hot Springs, the deepest and largest natural hot springs in the world nestled beside the San Juan River providing a a perfect respite after a day of outdoor adventure. Nearby is Chimney Rock National Monument (the newest in the U.S.) providing an archeological adventure into the history of ancient civilizations that occupied our area. Other attactions include the Southern Ute Indian Reservation and its Sky Ute Casino and Resort. Durango, Colorado is 60 miles west and is home to the historic Durango-Silverton narrow guage railway, Fort Lewis College, and the Durango/La Plata County Airport which offers commercial airline service to major cities and international connections. Also not far away is the 25 mile-long Navajo Lake which offer many water sport and boating choices. This area of the country also allows access to many attractions within a day's drive, such as Great Sand Dunes National Park to the east and Mesa Verde National Park to the west. We have found that our guests enjoy the remoteness of being in the mountains and away from it all including associated distractions of daily life and as such, although we do provide WIFI and access to movies on Netflix, Amazon etc., there is no live TV on the property.

Great location no local channels on tv got locked out several times garage code too sensitive not enough towels wash cloths always washing
We are glad your family of 5 enjoyed our location. We have been upgrading the cabin with all new couches, a new dining table, light fixtures, door locks & keypads and various decorations.
We really apologize for the glitchy new garage keypad. We immediately called for service and it was replaced by our garage technician. We now also have the ability to let guests in remotely :)
We leave towels for up to 10 guests but can provide more upon request. On our arrival instructions, we encourage guests to call us immediately if anything needs attention, so we wish you had let us know. We have the washer and drier for the convenience of our guests should they wish to wash their personal clothing.
Given we are in the San Juan National Forest and surrounded by mountains there is no local TV available (as is stated on the VRBO website). However, we have found that our guests enjoy the remoteness of being in the mountains and away from it all including associated distractions of daily life. We do provide WIFI and access to movies and TV shows on demand on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. on all our smart HDTVs in the cabin.
We would love to have you back with us again!

Very comfortable home with well equipped kitchen. Overall, we enjoyed our three-week stay.
The house has numerous security cameras on the exterior and two inside the garage. I could not tell whether any cameras were equipped with listening devices. Owners should assure future guests their conversations cannot be heard or recorded by owners or owners' security company and that there are no monitoring devices devices inside the house
The two-story tall windows in the family room face due west. From mid-afternoon until sunset, sunglasses and a ball cap are a necessity in the family room. Otherwise, the view of the valley and distant mountains was quite nice. We particularly enjoyed watching the horses in the distant pastures. Lots of mule deer also.
The deck was delightful after sunset. The propane grill on the deck was very nice, but the temp gauge needs replacement .
Owners should advise guests in advance of their "no shoes inside policy".
The dispenser on the coffee maker does not work properly.
The elevation at the property is 7500 feet.
Owners should promptly call when requested and reply to emails. We were left with the impression that owners were a bit unfriendly toward guests. Unfortunately with all the owners' rules and warnings, we never felt welcome or appreciated.
we are glad you enjoyed the cabin amenities including the comfortable furnishings and well equipped kitchen. Our past guests, as you did, find particularly wonderful the panoramic views, the porch grill and the spacious deck where they can dine and watch the sunsets with family and friends. We pride ourselves with a very clean property and we believe past guests appreciate this too. We do ask guests to remove their shoes to keep snow, road salt, and pebbles off the beautiful wood floors. The salt is particularly corrosive. This allows all our future guests to enjoy the same beautiful floors.
From past guest reviews we do encourage guest inquiries during their stay and should guests have any questions we are always available via phone or text within 2 hrs. Our driveway facing cameras which our security company installed many years ago are, rest assured, for security purposes.
Mobile phone service is quite spotty given we are in a mountainous area of the San Juan mountains. We are sorry you did not receive all our messages or phone calls. Our welcome packet and home & area guide that is e-mailed prior to guest arrivals recommends connecting phones to WIFI during your stay and states guests are very welcome to use the available free domestic phone service.
Please come see us again, we would love to welcome you back next year!

Super clean & well appointed home!
Super clean! Laid out beautifully for a group. Spacious kitchen which is well appointed. Location is great—beautiful views, house not on top of neighbors yet 10 minutes to stores & to old town Pagosa Springs, 20ish minutes to beautiful hikes...recommend 4 Mile Falls trail. Would definitely stay in this lovely home again—
What a beautiful home! Clean and well maintained. We did not have any issues with the location or the property.
Annual Girls Trip
The cabin was beautiful, clean and very well appointed. The views from the decks were incredible, as were the stars at night. The pictures, as nice as they portray the property, do not do it justice. You must experience it in person!!
As a group of seven women, we really enjoyed the four bedroom suites, each with a private bath (we made arrangements to add the "Lodge Suite" making 4 bedrooms).
Our group was very comfortable in the home, which could probably handle 2-3 families without a problem. The loft looked like such a great place for kids!
We enjoyed the local's favorite eateries and were close enough to include Silverton and Durango as destinations to enjoy during our stay.
The owners, Hans and Norma, were absolutely great to deal with! They were responsive when we had questions and helpful when we were technically challenged. They also provided some great suggestions for what do enjoy locally!
Because the owners stipulate no street shoes in the home, and asks that only slippers be worn in the house, to protect the floors, (which are beautiful real wood, well cared for, floors), the only suggestion we would make, to improve the property and a stay, would be to install some sort of attractive slip guard strips on the stairs. The Cabin is three stories, with a lot of stairs. We had a couple of close calls with "slipper slips", so an extra layer of slip protection would have been a help and a bonus.
If we're ever back in the area we would definitely arrange to stay here again.
Hans and Norma you did a beautiful and outstanding job creating and remodeling this jewel of a cabin, thanks for sharing it with us!!
Lovely, cozy home and perfect for two families
We've started an annual tradition of going to Pagosa Springs and Wolf Creek over President's Day weekend. We found this house last year for that same weekend but it wasn't available so when we decided to return this year, I booked it right away and we certainly weren't disappointed. We were two families totaling 9 people including three teenage girls who need some privacy and the house worked perfectly for us. The layout of the home is both cozy and spacious with at least one bedroom on each level and plenty of beds and bedrooms on the top floor. We used all four bedrooms and two beds in the loft, where there was still space for two more in the loft. You can tell the owners love their home and are very proud of it but are also kind enough to share it with others. It is very well maintained and has just about everything one needs for a very comfortable stay, so much so that we decided to eat in every night although originally we had planned to go out. It was simply too enjoyable to stay in after a day of skiing and enjoy the ambiance and good company. The location is convenient but remote enough to still feel like a cabin and the views across the snow covered fields are beautiful, definitely one of the better views we have enjoyed while in Pagosa. Wifi might be slow for some but worked just fine for our needs as we all tried to get away from work as much as possible. We would love to return to this property. The owners are very, very responsive and the check-in/check out instructions are very clear and thorough. Highly recommended.
