About Debra

I am a close friend of the owner and live full time nearby in Nuevo Arenal. The owner bought the property in 2004 and tries to visit as often as possible from her home in Houston. This 1B, 1BR home was built on the ten acres in 2010.

Debra purchased this villa in 2004

Why Debra chose Tierras Morenas

Story from the owner: My breath was taken away the instant I drove onto this property for the first time. The property is nestled on 10 acres or exquisite rainforest and has a fabulous view of Lake Arenal. I am not a birdwatcher however, am mesmerized with the technicolor parade that constantly goes by. The sounds of the jungle, both day and night are soothing to the soul. This is an ideal location to either come relax or use as a home base for your Costa Rican adventure.

What makes this villa unique

From the owner: The first time I heard the howler monkeys in the distance (and even more exciting, up close!) and saw the Arenal volcano in the distance from the top of the drive, I was hooked. With the amazing array of flora and fauna at your fingertips, this tropical refuge will absolutely thrill your senses.

This is a beautiful property over looking Lake Arenal

  • 5 of 5

We have spent several winters in this part of Costa Rica and love the area. Our visit this year is shorter than usual as we are exploring other areas of the country. The guest house on the property was clean neat and very new. The woodwork was hi quality and is typical of Cost Rica. Nice linens and towels. Our first morning we rigged up feeding station for the birds and within days had many birds including Toucans visit most mornings. If we slept late the toucans would bang on the patio door looking for some fruit. The plunge pool was great too. We took advantage of the main house being empty and spent many late afternoons sitting on the front porch mesmerized in a very tranquil way by the beauty of the garden in the late afternoon sun with the lake as a back drop. The electric gate was appreciated adding a little security to the property. Debra the property manager was very pleasant to deal with. My wife and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Beautiful setting and accommodations

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable rental, with attentive host. Well appointed, spacious and great views. Short drive to Arenal.

Debra was great to deal with and responsive.

Would definitely recommend.

Well appointed kitchen.

Gingerbread restaurant was great, would recommend. We opted not to order, but tell the chef to stop bringing items of his choice when we were full.

1.5 hours from Liberia airport.

Tropical garden casa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a month and really enjoyed the beauty and solitude of this retreat. Distant lake view, beautiful flowers, birds and sunsets.

Debra the caretaker was very friendly and responsive and the locals don’t mind our stumbling Spanish on bit. It’s a very lovely area. I expect we’ll return!

This is a dream come true for folks who want to sit, watch birds and enjoy a morning coffee overlooking a peaceful garden! Jump in the car and you are 5 minutes from Arenal, a short drive around the lake for wind surfing if that's your thing, an hour to touristy "stuff" in la Fortuna. The location couldn't be better if you are looking for peace and quiet.

The little home is spotless and has every amenity you could wish for to cook for yourself if that's your 'druther. There's a lovely little pool if you wish to take a dip. The feeling of security and tranquility surrounds you in this home.

If there were 10 stars that would be my choice.

Wonderful View!

  • 4 of 5

Casa Tranquila looks exactly like the pictures and the view is incredible! The house is one bedroom but very roomy and has a larger feel to it. My favorite part of the home was the shower! It's a large walk in stone shower and I just loved it. The property grounds are very well kept and the description indicates 10 acres, but you can only walk around a 1/2 acre or so. When I booked the place, it did not indicate 'car recommended' (but it does now) and it's important for anyone who is interested in staying there to have a car. The walk to town is about 5km on a narrow two lane road without a shoulder to walk on. Tico's do it all of the time, but I think most visitors would not feel comfortable. One other recommendation, is to have lounge chairs by the splash pool. The pool is small but very relaxing and had a view but it would have been nice if there were lounge chairs to get some sun since the pool is not next to the house but in front of the owner's home (who was not there when I visited). Otherwise, there are no neighbors that you can see. The home does have wifi, but being in Costa Rica, it's not the most reliable. It's fine for checking email and doing small stuff but I had trouble streaming due to interruptions and my MacAir was brand new. There were places in town that had great wifi reception. Moya's place was one of them and I especially enjoyed eating there if Costa Rican food isn't your style. They have a great menu (vegetarian, burgers, pizza, and yummy salads), the food was reasonably priced and very tasty! But what I loved most of all about my visit, was the collared Aracari (toucan) that visited almost daily. There is a picture of him in the home description and he really does come by and either sits on the terrace waiting for you, or knocks on the windows to wake you up early in the morning. He loves to be fed little bits of fleshy fruit and watermelon seemed to be his fav. I even gave him a name (Rico) because he was like a pet bird and even ate out of my hand a couple of times. Sometimes I called out to him and he seemed to know Rico was his name. It was too cute! This home is very lovely and probably best suited for a couple. I highly recommend the property for it's view, listening to the sounds of nature, and overall surrounding beauty.
