About the property

Beautiful Home, Nature Lover's Paradise, Infinity Pool, Walk to Secluded Beach

We have it all, Ocean and Mountain views, Green Conservation Area, Mangrove forest, and Pasture lands. Quinta de La Paz is located in an absolutely incredible setting in Playa Buena Vista, Esterones. With just a short 10 minute drive to the lovely coastal town of Samara, 30 minutes to the fishing port of Carillo, and 10-30 minutes to world class surfing beaches on the road north to Nosara. The property is 800 meters from the beach, a short stroll down a peaceful country lane where you'll be entertained by exotic birds and monkeys playing overhead as you walk.

One of the best parts of 'La Quinta' is the layout which is perfect for multiple couples or families - close enough to enjoy each other but with independent buildings/balconies/bedrooms to have privacy when it's desired. The home is situated to catch breezes while maximizing the views. It's tranquil and secluded without being isolated and not at all far from 'town' nor from things to do. A nature lover's paradise awaits.

About Day

We jokingly refer to ourselves as an Art and Engineering Collective because it encompasses a vast aray of ideas and leaves us free to explore just about anything. We are in truth, an artist and an engineer with oh so many things rolled in there...sailor, chef, software developer, restoration artist, photographer, eco designer, entrepreneur and the list goes on.

We are both passionate about travel, conservation and preservation of the natural environment, organic gardening, supporting local economies, learning, reading and travel, travel, travel

Day purchased this house in 2013

Why Day chose Sámara

We have had the good fortune to travel quite a bit and while many places have left us yearning to return, there is no where quite like Costa Rica and particularly this house. The first time we rented we were totally smitten with the house, the grounds, the people, the food, and the beach. We loved it so much that we returned the next season and felt like we belonged there. As fate would have it the house came up for sale and the rest is...Being written. We hope you love this house and area as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

One of the best parts of 'Quinta' is the layout which is perfect for multiple couples or families - close enough to enjoy each other but with independent buildings/balconies/bedrooms to have privacy when it's desired. The home is situated to catch breezes while maximizing the views. It's tranquil and secluded but not at all isolated nor far from 'town' or from things to do. Walking to Playa Buena Vista or Playa Barrigona will reward you will breathtaking views, incredible bird watching and an opportunity to experience the "real" Costa Rica.

Amazing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our multigenerational crew. Patio with rocking chairs is great for views and group meals, separate buildings nice for different bedtimes, and we used the pool multiple times everyday. The nearby beach was wonderful for playing in the waves (surfing and boogey boarding), strolling under the full moon and chasing hermit crabs. But, the highlight was the visitors in trees. We loved the daily visits from the howler monkeys, amusing call of the trogans, and the parakeets flying through. Oh and we got our fill of mangos from the tree in the yard, so delicious!! The driveway is a little intimidating, but manageable. Thank you for sharing such a magical place.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review, and such a lovely one at that! It sounds like you all enjoyed the area and our property to its fullest. I'm glad you were lucky enough to get some mangoes before the Congos got them ! Lol It was a pleasure to have you as guests and you are all welcome back, anytime! Pura Vida, Day

Beautiful house.

  • 5 of 5

The house and view were beautiful. If we were to visit again, we would certainly stay there. The driveway is a fun challenge, but if you are in 4wd is no problem if you are not overloaded. The house was very well kept, clean with a beautiful pool. Monkeys added a lot to the visit, and the close walk to the beach and local eateries was great.

Pura Vida

  • 4 of 5

You will truly experience the "pure life" of Costa Rica in this beautiful, secluded home. It felt like our own little private resort. Gorgeous views, close to many stunning beaches and Samara, and the joy of having a pool to dip into whenever you choose. Perfect vacation destination if you want to kick back and relax. Day was a great owner to communicate with. Always quick and helpful in her replies and she provides a lots of great tips for things to do and see within close proximity of her home.

WONDERFUL property away from it all. Every day a slow start, reading and brunch, then the pool, a little later a drive to discover a new beach, a long walk, maybe a cold coconut 😎👙🍍Lovely

Enjoyed meals at Coco's, MaMa Gui, Lo Que hay.

Favorite experience: sharing space with the monkeys who come to eat in the trees above the pool. We would just sit quietly snapping pics while the moved though the trees.Very peaceful.

Fabulous home for a family!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Day's home in mid March. Family of 4 - mom, dad, 2 daughters, 9 and 13. It was an adventure getting there, because we chose the wrong route from Liberia (do NOT take the coastal road!). It was very easy going home, when on the proper road. But once we got to Samara, it was fab! You are about 10 mins outside of the town of Samara. Very easy drive through the "shortcut", if it's dry season. House was clean, everything worked great. Was breezy up on the hill, so didn't feel too hot, but having the AC in the rooms at night was great. Pool was perfect and clean and warm; ,we used it every day! And not super tiny. We did spend a lot of time at the house, because it was so perfect and relaxing. But also ventured out around the area, too. Spent several days camped out on the beach in Samara, as we like to have a little more action and people watching. The Buena Vista beach by the house, was also nice. I will say, we thought it was too far to walk (with kids). It's almost a mile, and in the heat there was some whining. :0

We loved the soda at the end our our street, ate there several times. The Natura Roots soda down the road was also very cool and yummy. Our fave breakfast place was Gusto Beach in samara. Yes, tourist prices, but so lovely and great people.

This is a great rental if you don't mind being out away from it all a bit. If you want to be walking distance to everything and the beach, not the right choice. But we loved the quiet and being out in the country. We did NOT want to come home, even the kids. This was one of best trips ever.

Thanks for everything, Day!

Owner's Response: Thank you Michelle! We are glad that you enjoyed the house and surrounding area. Thank you for taking the time to write. We are very lucky to have such wonderful beaches and restaurants close by and a taste of the real Costa Rica. Buena Vista can seem far away for little feet but it is in fact just under 1/2 mile from our driveway. We always think of the pool at the top of the hill as our reward after a hot, salty day at the beach. We hope you will return some day. Pura Vida, Day

Wonderful holidays !

  • 5 of 5

Oh lala ! We have discovered a paradise ! What great holidays in a gorgeous place ! As Day said : this house is a very, very special place on our Earth. Surrounding by jungle, every day in this house is a real show : birds, butterflies, flowers, sun, monkeys. Pura Vida ! Everybody made feel us welcome : Antonio, the gardener, is so sweet, Mike, the manager, always disponible, neighbours always smiling and saying us « Hola! ». And the beaches around are ones of the most beautiful ever visited : wild, deserted, with a lot of character.

For sure, we will be back !

This is a unique & peaceful slice of paradise. The property is located 1.5-2.0 hours from the international airport in Liberia (LIR). There is a smaller local airport 30 minutes away in Carillo beach.

Both the towns of Samara and Nosara offer a wide variety of shops and restaurants with many operated by expats from Europe and the US.

Buena Vista beach is secluded and peaceful with very few visitors and is quite safe for swimming, surfing, and fishing. The beach is a Turtle sanctuary and thus is protected from the hyper development that has plagued the northern coast of the Nicoya peninsula.  There is also a bird sanctuary adjacent to beach along the estuary offering an opportunity to see very rare and colorful winged friends. There is a wide variety of local flora and fauna. The area is very green and tranquil.

There are many things to do around the area so once you have had your fill of relaxing at the pool, long leisurely strolls on Playa Buena Vista, and communing with nature by the patio get yourself up and out. Costa Rica has endless possibilities! World Class surfing, surfing lessons, kayaking tours, beachcombing, turtle tours, canopy excursions, hiking, biking, sightseeing, visiting galleries full of local art and craft, and the food…oh the food, you’ll never have fresher! Ok the coffee…world class! We would need pages to describe all of the wonderful things there are to do and explore.
