About the property

Beautiful Home, Nature Lover's Paradise, Infinity Pool, Walk to Secluded Beach

We have it all, Ocean and Mountain views, Green Conservation Area, Mangrove forest, and Pasture lands. Quinta de La Paz is located in an absolutely incredible setting in Playa Buena Vista, Esterones. With just a short 10 minute drive to the lovely coastal town of Samara, 30 minutes to the fishing port of Carillo, and 10-30 minutes to world class surfing beaches on the road north to Nosara. The property is 800 meters from the beach, a short stroll down a peaceful country lane where you'll be entertained by exotic birds and monkeys playing overhead as you walk.

One of the best parts of 'La Quinta' is the layout which is perfect for multiple couples or families - close enough to enjoy each other but with independent buildings/balconies/bedrooms to have privacy when it's desired. The home is situated to catch breezes while maximizing the views. It's tranquil and secluded without being isolated and not at all far from 'town' nor from things to do. A nature lover's paradise awaits.

About Day

We jokingly refer to ourselves as an Art and Engineering Collective because it encompasses a vast aray of ideas and leaves us free to explore just about anything. We are in truth, an artist and an engineer with oh so many things rolled in there...sailor, chef, software developer, restoration artist, photographer, eco designer, entrepreneur and the list goes on.

We are both passionate about travel, conservation and preservation of the natural environment, organic gardening, supporting local economies, learning, reading and travel, travel, travel

Day purchased this house in 2013

Why Day chose Guanacaste

We have had the good fortune to travel quite a bit and while many places have left us yearning to return, there is no where quite like Costa Rica and particularly this house. The first time we rented we were totally smitten with the house, the grounds, the people, the food, and the beach. We loved it so much that we returned the next season and felt like we belonged there. As fate would have it the house came up for sale and the rest is...Being written. We hope you love this house and area as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

One of the best parts of 'La Quinta' is the layout which is perfect for multiple couples or families - close enough to enjoy each other but with independent buildings/balconies/bedrooms to have privacy when it's desired. The home is situated to catch breezes while maximizing the views. It's tranquil and secluded but not at all isloated nor far from 'town' or from things to do. Walking to Playa Buena Vista or Playa Barrigona will reward you will breathtaking views, incredible bird watching and an opportunity to experience the "real" Costa Rica.

Wonderful holidays !

  • 5 of 5

Oh lala ! We have discovered a paradise ! What great holidays in a gorgeous place ! As Day said : this house is a very, very special place on our Earth. Surrounding by jungle, every day in this house is a real show : birds, butterflies, flowers, sun, monkeys. Pura Vida ! Everybody made feel us welcome : Antonio, the gardener, is so sweet, Mike, the manager, always disponible, neighbours always smiling and saying us « Hola! ». And the beaches around are ones of the most beautiful ever visited : wild, deserted, with a lot of character.

For sure, we will be back !

Fabulous stay at Quinta de la Paz

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this awesome resort ( because thats what we thought of it as) with our 4 grown children. It was the perfect place for us to relax and hit the beaches. We all loved the seclusion of home, Monkeys came to visit us almost every night the wildlife on the property was almost more than we saw on the Night Safari walk we did in Monteverde which is also close enough to do as a day trip. Our kids got all the extreme sports they wanted there.

Antonio the gardener was a gem bringing us fresh coconuts and Marianna and Janette ( hosts at the El Coyote local restaurant) were entertaining and great cooks. Many thanks for a great home and all the advice we received from Dayan prior to our trip. It far exceeded everything we were hoping for , Spent lots of time in the pool . Mike the property manager was a big resource as well. Many thanks for Dayan's thoughtfulness checking on us to make sure everything was OK when we got there. Some of us even took advantage of the steep incline of the driveway to get out daily workout early in the morning by walking up and down several times. Oh the calves are looking good. Unfortunately we had to leave in the middle of the night to make it to the airport but at 2 in the morning we were greeted with a spectacular view of the night sky and the milky way. Every night was a light show. If you love a little seclusion and mixing with the locals you will love this home. It is close to really great beaches some you can walk to others you need to drive a short way but mostly you will only see locals when you get there. Hope we can get back there soon

C'est le Paradis!

Wonderful home with very friendly and helpful owners in a beautiful wonderful country

Choices between a long list of things to do and to visit and an urge to only enjoy this beautiful functional house in the SAFE Costa Rican jungle and its secluded almost empty beaches

For all our 10 days, a perfect balance of

A) relaxation at the house with the views; reading, cooking local dishes, swimming in the pool and

B) enjoyment of living adventures while surfing the warm Pacific waters, trying to master the spanish language with the always smiling Costa Ricans, driving with a 4 x 4 (a must) on the roads to discover the beach towns of Samara & Nosara and their restaurants / shops / bars and the wild beaches all around

Simple things to do or not for a "PURA VIDA"

Though i won't repeat all the must things to do, there are 2 that we insist on:

1) Try the very good local restaurant down the road "EL COYOTE" with Mariana & Yanette always happy to see you! Breakfast , lunch or diner... Do try the "Margaritas"

2) Go have an early diner al fresco at sunset after a swim at restaurant LA LUNA in Nosara (Reservation is a must) We manage to go twice in 10 days!

This house and trip will be our nice memory of a perfect family time with our teenage son for years to come!

Our dream is to eventually go back to this house for a much longer time to go to bed every night after a night swim in the pool with all the lights turned down to gaze at the amazing stars in a perfect sky...

Love Returning to the Quinta!

  • 5 of 5

February 2015 marked our fourth visit to the Quinta in the past 5 years, and our second since Day and James took ownership. We love the acreage (and all the associated flora and fauna), the views, the layout, the pool, and the proximity to lots of activities coupled with the benefits of a location not smack in the middle of town. The layout is perfect for multiple couples or families - close enough to enjoy each other but independent buildings/balconies/bedrooms to have privacy when it's desired. These new owners take significant pride in their home and want to share that joy and the surrounding area with their renters. They take care to make sure you know the area and are comfortable in the home. Also, the fresh paint, new and refinished woodwork, and other recent upgrades mean they are invested in making sure the Quinta will always be a pleasure. Do be aware - the property is VERY steep (see the aerial photo on this site for perspective), so very young children will need to be watched closely, and those with ambulatory issues may have some difficulty. But the property's terrain is what makes it magical, too - the views, the wildlife (monkeys; MANY bird species like mot-mots, trogons, woodpeckers, jays, hummingbirds, parrots, and parakeets; coati; reptiles - iguanas, geckos, frogs), the plants, flowers, and fruit trees...the property is teeming with it all. Add to that the lovely walk to never-busy-always-beautiful Playa Buena Vista, and there's no telling what else you might see. This year, we even discovered the thousands and thousands of live sand dollars (and their tell-tale trails in the wet sand) that inhabit Playa Buena Vista. We love this place, and will definitely be back again. And be sure to follow the owners' recommendations for activities and excursions...we've done most all of them over the years, and can attest to the recommendations! Pura Vida!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write! We are so happy that you enjoyed the upgrades, the flora and fauna, and the area! We love having you and are so pleased that you continue to chose to stay at the Quinta! We love to hear that you taking advantage of all of the wonderful things there are to do around the area. It certainly does take a number of visits to get through the list! Be assured that we will continue to make improvements and love hearing from our guests! It IS a "magical" place! You and your family are always welcome! Pura Vida! Day

A Family of Seven Stayed for a Week

  • 5 of 5

This is a GREAT HOUSE for a family with several generations. The three buildings add privacy when needed. The view is fantastic. The pool is beautiful and very well maintained. The owners are extremely helpful and suppled tons of information about the area, where to shop, where to eat, what to do and who would be helpful. We used all their suggestions and it took the guess work out planning activities. Be sure to have the Samara Trails brothers cook a meal or two for you - a great evening eating authentic Costa Rican food on the patio. We loved the wildlife and birds. It is a very private place. We used a car to take full advantage of all this area has to offer. Potential renters need to discuss with the owners the steepness of the driveway.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review! We are so pleased that you liked the house and the area!!! There is so much to do and see! Loved to hear that you enjoyed the layout of the house. It really does provide privacy when that is what you are looking for and great open space to be with family and friends. Native Ingredients makes amazing, gourmet meals and we are so pleased that you enjoyed it! We do try to warn our guests about the steepness of our driveway and it's stated in the property description but I do believe that you have to see it to really understand what we mean by steep. ;) Thanks again! We loved having you! Please come and see us again! Warmest regards, Day

Fantastic !!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a fantastic time in this place !!

It's kind of an adventure to reach the house first but it worths it ! you will feel all alone in this beautiful house. The view, the pool, the 3 houses and of course... monkeys !! We were with our 2 kids (2 years old and 6 months old) and it was perfect. We just actually had mosquitos net on their beds but really we didn't see anything bad. Yes, you'll see a lot of beautiful insects and especially by night : welcome to Costa Rica ! :-)

The house is great and very well located in walking distance from the beach. What a nice walk actually : you'll see many beautiful birds, monkeys and if you are lucky turtles... and then you'll be on the beautiful and wild Buena Vista Beach. We loved to go there by the end of the day to wait for the sunset and the first stars. Beautiful !

Among so many beaches very closed by the house, our favorite one was Mel Gibson's beach : white sand, palm trees to get shadow, nobody except us,... paradise !!

We would love to go back, it was definitely too short.

This is a unique & peaceful slice of paradise. The property is located 1.5-2.0 hours from the international airport in Liberia (LIR). There is a smaller local airport 30 minutes away in Carillo beach.

Both the towns of Samara and Nosara offer a wide variety of shops and restaurants with many operated by expats from Europe and the US.

Buena Vista beach is secluded and peaceful with very few visitors and is quite safe for swimming, surfing, and fishing. The beach is a Turtle sanctuary and thus is protected from the hyper development that has plagued the northern coast of the Nicoya peninsula.  There is also a bird sanctuary adjacent to beach along the estuary offering an opportunity to see very rare and colorful winged friends. There is a wide variety of local flora and fauna. The area is very green and tranquil.

There are many things to do around the area so once you have had your fill of relaxing at the pool, long leisurely strolls on Playa Buena Vista, and communing with nature by the patio get yourself up and out. Costa Rica has endless possibilities! World Class surfing, surfing lessons, kayaking tours, beachcombing, turtle tours, canopy excursions, hiking, biking, sightseeing, visiting galleries full of local art and craft, and the food…oh the food, you’ll never have fresher! Ok the coffee…world class! We would need pages to describe all of the wonderful things there are to do and explore.
