Joe & Maitland Sroba
About Joe & Maitland Sroba
Bucks County, PA born and raised, I went south to UVA for both undergrad and grad school, open-minded enough to marry a VA Tech Hokie! Currently living in Richmond, yet I never lost the love for the PA mountains. I find it very pleasing and fulfilling to give our children the opportunity to explore and maintain a connection to nature's beauty and bounty!
Joe & Maitland Sroba purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Joe & Maitland Sroba chose Gaines
We have searched the PA Wilds for purchase opportunities for more than 20 years never quite finding that 'special' place until now. We'd love to share this gem with you...

The property is beautiful. The house is unique and a great place for a family getaway. One big open 1st floor is a great environment for “together time”, and the central 3-sided fireplace is really lovely. The game-house is perfect for the kids/teens to run off to. And the creek, fields, hiking trails, mountains, farms...ah the vast landscape...breathtaking.
Also Joe is super easy to talk to, polite and well spoken, and he made us feel quite welcome. He answered questions and made everything easy.
Lastly - the house was really clean. No dusty dirty knick-knacks or random messy stuff that so many rental homes have. The kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were squeaky clean. The house was GREAT. Thanks Joe :)
We believe there are always things to improve. With that in mind, we are striving to impress time and again the many guest who now delightfully call themselves "regulars". And our list of improvements for the coming year are many!
Tioga County Round House
We really enjoyed our stay. Interesting design of the house. The gathering space and dining area were great. Loved the table. The house and kitchen was well equipped. We didn’t use the TV, but would have been nearly impossible to see because of the posts anyway. Some suggestions for improvement of the property:
1. The inside steps desperately need railings.
2. The beds need new mattresses. One queen bed had no mattress, just a box spring.
3. Lighting in the bedrooms could be improved. Very poor quality lighting -no reading in bed-for sure.
The appealing layout of the first floor dining and living areas highlight the central atrium fireplace when facing inwards, and when facing out maximizing windows to allow broad, clear views over the fields and abundant wildlife--there is no replacement for enjoying nature's wonders here!
The second TV is on the only available (non-windowed) wall and added as a courtesy consideration for those who might be working to prepare large meals in the kitchen. For those who wish to spend their precious time here watching TV, we have a very large primary TV in a separate game room that has plenty of straight-on uninterrupted viewing angles along with a pool table, foosball table and dart board--great for family fun time after dark.
While the beautiful spiral staircase that wraps around the fireplace can be difficult to navigate for people of any age, we DO have two alternate staircases leading from the upstairs to downstairs decks that have very sturdy double-railings.
It is untrue that one queen bed has no mattress--all beds have mattresses. This year's improvement plans include improved lighting in the bedrooms along with new high-quality mattresses for all beds.
While we know we will never reach perfection, we are committed to improving what we offer each year in pursuit of it!
Exactly what we had in mind.
We loved our stay here. The property consisted of beautiful views and excellent forest to explore with plenty of trails and excellent views. Loved the outdoors and then returning to the spacious but cozy cabin. And the surrounding towns are classic frozen in time USA. Excellent time had by all. We definitely want to come back soon. And great communication from the owner was definitely major plus as well.
Spending as much time outdoors enjoying and exploring nature's wonders then returning to the unique and cozy cabin is the best way to enjoy The Octagon at Pine Creek Farm!
Great Isolated Setting
The photos do not do this property justice. The expanse of open sky and proximity to Pine Creek are more than ideal. There were 10 grown men staying here for 3 days and we never felt cramped or in one another's way. The game room provided hours of entertainment as well as fishing and walking the property and nearby trails. Overall a fantastic location and structure.
The cabin and property offer many, many activity options to be thrilling for a men's getaway, ladie's getaway or family and friends time together. Those who take advantage of all that is offered take home treasured memories forever!
Stunning Autumn Setting!
This is one beautiful setting! Our kids and grand-kids thoroughly enjoyed our Autumn stay at the Octagon on Pine Creek. From fishing in the pond, to four wheeling on the numerous mountain trails, to hanging out by the fire pit, to walking the trail along Pine Creek, to cozying up in the house, to playing football in the front yard, to watching the curious deer stroll by, to inhaling the autumn beauty - this place offers it all!!
A couple of suggestions for improvement: some of the mattresses need replaced and a better handrail for the unique staircase would make it better. You should be aware that the bedrooms and bathrooms do not have any ceilings so light sleepers will hear any and all sounds!
Thanks for the comments, and yes, we have some mattress-replacements on the near-term to-do list. We are constantly upgrading to make everyone's experience better and better!
The openings over the doorways are essential for good air circulation in the unique octagon design of the cabin. While we understand the surprise it is to some, it is also considered pretty cool by others who enjoy the uniqueness of a few days of cabin living...
Week long Paradise
This property is awesome. This is our 3rd year visiting this area but our 1st at Pine Creek Farm. Let me first say that it is super clean inside - including the stove, microwave, refrigerator, outdoor grill, floors, showers, toilets - etc.
We are a family of 4 with twin girls and a goldendoodle. Our dog Cooper still hasn't stopped talking about the fun he had swimming and chasing deer : )
The girls enjoyed swimming in the creek, catching minnows and crayfish, collecting wood on the property to have a campfire in the huge, awesome firepit, checking out mountain trails on our ATV with us, fishing in the pond ( we caught a bunch of bass), and playing pool and foosball in the gameroom.
We were close enough to enjoy 3 State Parks including Leonard Harrison, Colton Point and Lyman Run. We fished in the lake at Lyman but had better luck in the private pond. We biked along the Pine Creek trail. We went spotlighting through Tioga Forest for what seemed like hours (the back roads never end) and saw 5 porcupines, a bunch of deer, a mamma bear with her 3 cubs and a red fox. We also went horseback riding at a nearby business.
This property is very secluded and private and there is so much land to explore. The views of the mountains at the grassy area of one of the trails was breathtaking. If we were searching for a property to purchase and it was for sale -- this would be the one. We are already planning to return next year.
The owner is very responsive and answers questions in an extremely timely manor. This is our favorite family vacation to date.
We appreciate our happy guests and are pleased to offer a discount to repeat visitors!
